We watched Bohemian Rhapsody (the Queen biopic) last night. I am a pretty big Queen fan and I wanted to see it in the theatre but just did not get there. Anyway, it was a really good movie overall. The casting was outstanding. There are a few major differences between the movie and real events. That is something that always bothers me about Hollywood. I wish they would stay closer to the truth on biopics and historical movies. I think the truth is always more interesting than anything Hollywood writers and directors can think up. But, again, it was a good movie.
Mr. and I had the same reaction to "Stan & Ollie"---the movie manufactured an argument that never took place, shoehorned two U.K. theater tours into one, and played loose with some other facts. But the movie so beautifully portrayed their deep friendship for each other that we had to forgive those dramatic liberties. The movie didn't garner a lot of awards, but it's really touching people who have seen it. We really liked it, and the audience we saw in with stayed in their seats through most of the credits (which featured footage of the real Stan and Ollie).

Good Morning, March Approachers!
And just as we approach the third month of the year, we also approach our third Milestone, an important one, about which we will discuss after the current numbers have been released.

Here they are:
Days to the Season: 262
Days to Christmas Day: 304

As stated above, our next marker is number three on the chart. It is the 300-Day Christmas Day Window of course.
And it stands now barely over HALF a week up ahead, on the last day of February. (So close you could touch it with a short Christmas tree.)

Rain, rain and more rain pretty much described all day yesterday, with the chilly temps to match.
Today however, is supposed to see us warm all they way up near 70, but the precipitation will continue, with a high wind warning for this afternoon.
We are quite overcast and wet here this morning and observe a temperature reading of 47 degrees.

Have a Super Sunday, Everybody!
Thanks Crown! Happy 10 months till Christmas Eve!

Good morning all.

Wow the wind is blowing outside! Luckily we are not experiencing any power outages yet. The heavy winds started last night and will finally start to slow down later today.

Not too much on the agenda today, just the normal Sunday get ready for the week type of day. I do have a Little League Football meeting this evening too, but that will only take a couple of hours.

Everyone have a great and wonderful Sunday!
I really enjoyed Bohemiam Rhapsody. I love the music of Queen but am not very familiar with their story, so I couldn't spot where Hollywood made changes. What major changes did they make in the movie? I loved the way they weaved their music into the storyline. And I agree that the casting was amazing, I couldn't get over how much the actors looked like the members of the band.

Lots of cooking going on right now. I just finished making a thai red curry rice with vegetables. And right now butternut squash is roasting in the oven for me to make soup. Never done butternut squash soup before, it should be good. Next I'll make a pata dish. So we'll be set for a few days. Eventually I'll get to relax and watch some movies with David.

Bohemian Rhapsody Spoiler Alert: Do not read this message if you have not seen the movie and do not want to know about it.

The list of changes is really quite long but here are some highlights:
How Freddie joined the band: He knew the guys of the band for years already and was good friends with the former lead singer of the group. Freddie was playing in other bands at the time as well. When the lead singer quit, Freddie asked to join. This is also how he met Mary Austin. She was dating Brian May and was always around the the band. She and Freddie were already friends.

The argument with the record exec, Ray Foster (not a real person) never happened. There was no argument over making Bohemian Rhapsody the single, nor were there issues with radio play. Queen stayed with the same music company until 2010.

Freddie Mercury did not fire Queen's manager and kick him out of the limo. That manager left on his own in 1977 and remained close to the band.

Connected to the last point, there was never an argument about Freddie doing a solo project. After Queen was losing some momentum in the early 80s, all of the members decided to go do solo projects as they wanted to take a break from touring and explore their other musical interests. The band remained in close contact throughout that time. They did not break-up as the movie shows.

Connected to that point, the LiveAid show was not a reunion of any sort. The band had released an album that hit #2 on the charts and just finished the tour for the album 4 months before LiveAid and were already discussing a new album. They were not a last second add-on to the show either.

Freddie was not diagnosed with AIDS until 1987. The movie shows him getting sick before LiveAid and finding out just weeks before the show. In 1987 Freddie had a cancerous spot on his shoulder that led him to the doctor and that is when he found out.

Jim Hutton, Freddie's boyfriend at the end of the movie, is a real person, however, they met at a club not at Freddie's house. Their relationship started soon after they met. As a side-note, they stayed together until Freddie's death. However, in Freddie's will, he left nearly everything to Mary Austin, including his house. Mary quickly kicked Jim out of the house. Jim was given $500,000 in the will and moved to Ireland. He died of lung cancer 2010.

There are some other minor issues, such as songs being played in the movie before the actual song was written.

I am pain to watch historical movies with, I point out all of the mistakes. LOL :p

Again, I really liked the movie, I just wished they would have kept it closer to the truth.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. It's clear that they wanted to create drama for the movie where there was none amd it was unecessary. Your reaction to historically inaccurate movies reminds me of when David watches any movie adapted from a book he has read.

Happy Rudolph Day #2 MMC! Already the 2nd one huh? The winter has gone faster than I can remember here. I think part of that is we have had it "easy" in terms of the ground has been mostly snow-free for most of the winter. We did have some rain Sunday and now gusty winds today. Hopefully the power will be ok until the winds die down this evening. Have a great Monday and Rudolph Day #2!

Merry Monday ~
Its going to be cold here today and we have a high wind warning in effect until this evening. I might have to skip my morning walk with Rocky and wait until the winds die down. Not too much going on here, just a typical day of errands and chores. I plan on making a big pot of homemade chicken noodle soup with biscuits for dinner. That’s about it for me. I hope everyone has a nice day and a great week ahead!!!
xx

Good Morning, Almost End-of-the-Monthers!
So close indeed to the end of February and the beginning of month number three, already. The year, as always, is flying past swifter than Santa's sleigh.

Also moving along quickly is our count, now almost down to a double-200's sequence:
Days to the Season: 261
Days to Christmas Day: 303

Yep. Your eyes do not deceive.
We are now down to UNDER HALF A WEEK away from the 300-Day Christmas Day Milestone marker.
(It's plain as the beard on Santa's face!)

It did warm up nicely yesterday and by the early afternoon, the rain clouds and precipitation vanished and we had a really nice afternoon.
Today will be colder but dry, then down to freezing tonight.
The new week has started calm and sunny here in central NC, at 43 degrees.

Have a Marvelous Monday, Fellow Travelers!

Good morning and Happy Rudolph Day! Not much on the agenda for today. I have my niece for the day and not much needs done around the house either, so I just plan on relaxing with her and reading. I started a new book last night before bed. Hope you all have a great day and a great start to your week!

I am so ready for the warm weather. I want to do so much this spring and summer. The lighter days are nice as well.

I know! I thought I overslept this am (even though I had my alarm set), to get the kids up for school. It was only 6:50 - it was so light out. It's getting exciting!
