I forgot to say, it has depressed me a little how so many shops have pretty much moved on from christmas already. Most of the supermarkets etc will have a corner for christmas stuff but the main displays are firmly in the spring time and it's been like this for well over a week. Disgusted! lol

Happy Christmas Eve Eve Eve MMC! I'm loving these days. December "20s" are so amazing. But I have to tell you I'm tired. Saturday was a day of running around a lot. But today should be more relaxing. I still may stop around and take it all in. I think tonight I just want to go out and walk a bit and take in the lights. The weather should be ideal for it. Have a great Christmas Eve Eve Eve MMC!

Good Morning, Near Thresholders!

That's right.
We are almost on the threshold of Christmas. It lurks but a few days ahead, now.

Days to Christmas Day: 3 (UNDER HALF A WEEK TO GO!)
Close.
So close!

The cold overnight lows just won't quit and this morning's reading of 31 degrees reflects that reality.
The afternoon highs are not too bad though, and Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are predicted to be in the 60's.

Well, I only have one more gift to get which I will obtain today, then my shopping will be complete for another year!

Have a Super Sunday, Friends.
Big week ahead!

I knew this was coming, and i did prepare myself for it. The first year i really noticed it, was in 2016, and i remember going to Hobby Lobby trying to get last minute gifts for two co-workers. It was the 2nd week in December, and when I went in, i was shocked to see almost all of the Christmas stuff gone, and it was replaced with "spring" stuff. I felt like i was going to cry, and I felt that anxiety pang in my chest. This was before my days of knowing about "Mini-Christmas" (Rudolph Day to us folks here!) and it hit me full blast that day just how long it was going to be again before i could hear a Christmas Song, or see Christmas stuff in the stores. As sort of a happy ending to this tale, it was only a few weeks later, when i was well in the throes of "Post Christmas Depression" that an online friend told me about "Mini Christmas" (Rudolph Day). And a couple of weeks after that, we were in the Hobby Lobby Again looking for Valentine's day items for my little all year tree. I told the clerk that we were buying them for my "all year" Christmas tree. She told me that in just a few more months, they'd have the "regular" stuff back out, and then she gave the exaggerated sigh sound. And then the light went on in my head, i had found the formula on how to get through the "hard" parts of the year!

2019: We visited Hobby Lobby on November 30th, and noticed that Christmas was already being consolidated to just a few small isles! Ugh. But as i've mentioned before, as sad as it seems that they put it away "early" in December, i just have to remember that i'll be seeing it all again in about four months give or take!

Happy Last Sunday before Christmas, friends! Thanks for reading my story!

It has been sad to see the displays getting thinner and thinner.

I think the stores have taken the stand lately that it’s better to sale everything out before hand than it is to clearance it out afterwards. So they are just simply not restocking their displays. Once they are out of something, that’s it. Walmart has definitely taken this approach the last few years and I’ve noticed even Dollar Tree this year hasn’t restocked anything. Michael’s is another.

Hello and Happy Sunday everyone!

Last night we went to see Chevy Chase and watch Christmas Vacation on the big screen. It was really neat, though I must say, Chevy is certainly old. I do not mean he just looks old, but he had a difficult time staying focused when answering questions. He had some neat little stories about different people back during his SNL days. Talked about an autobiography he is writing and a new Fletch screenplay. It was a fun evening for the family!

Today is an all-Christmas kind of day. Cookies are being made pretty much all day. We will decorate a lot of cookies this evening. Then tomorrow we will take boxes of cookies to the Fire Department, Police Department, Post Office, and Cultural Center.
Also, today we will get a lot of wrapping done, getting the house cleaned-up, etc.
We have our first Christmas tomorrow evening with my mom.
It will be a busy but very fun day!

Everyone have a great one!

Happy Sunday Morning and Merry Christmas! Trying to wrap my head around how much "oven time" is needed versus how much "oven-time" is needed. So today I'll either be baking a lot or feet-up watching football.

Enjoy!

Hello everyone!

unbelivable that Yuletide is effectively upon us! This will be my first proper Christmas back in the UK as a repatriated citizen. Mrs Bear and I have made the rounds over the last few weeks, and are looking forward to a relaxing Christmas together. The BBC always put on a big spectacle in their tv programming, not least of all “a Christmas carol”, tonight at 21:00. We currently sit on a train at London Euston, waiting for it to take our weary selves back home... where we can let our suitcases also finally rest.. and jettison their sugary load (ooh-err) of Swiss chocolate (I had to do a week out there at my old job on a small project).

Wishing you all the very best for Christmas and the new year!

I saw Valentines at WalMart Friday...

A few people might not remember when WalMart used to be filled to the rafters after Christmas. Aisles of wrapping paper, tape, bows, ornaments and lights. Stacks of clearance trees. They have certainly got away from that in the last 10 yrs. They will have stuff left over but the days of the .10 rolls of wrapping paper are long gone.

Hi everyone! I have spent the day wrapping and baking. Found a new recipe for cranberry orange walnut bread and it was a hit with everyone who had some so I made 2 loaves of that as well as some cherry Andes fudge and two pans of Christmas toffee crackers (not sure what they are really called.) I am hoping to mix up some cookie dough as well to freeze for easy baking tomorrow and Tuesday. I am really behind this year. I have to meet my sister half-way and pick up my mom tomorrow which is a long trip so that is kind of a day killer. Oh well, what gets done gets done and I will enjoy what we have! Oh, and I have to make some chex mix as SOMEONE (ok me) ate the first batch I made! I hope everyone has a great and safe Sunday!

Making Christmas treats got derailed today, as we had to replace our printer. I lost some time in setting it up, connecting it, getting it onto wi-fi, and coaxing it to play nicely with our computer and software. Finally after lunch I got to make this year's fudge (the easy-peasy kind made with chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk), and it's in the fridge getting solid. Tomorrow I'm hoping to make a small batch of sugar cookies. Tonight---hoping for some relaxing time and Christmas movies!

I read a lot of bad reviews about this year's crop of Nestle chocolate chips not melting well---lumpy, grainy, etc. So to be safe I bought some Ghirardelli chips instead, and they melted beautifully. So I think they will be my "fudge chips" from now on.

Much of the cookie making is now done. All that is left is the sugar cookies which then require frosting and decorating.

I got my wife's presents wrapped a bit ago. She is currently in the other room doing some wrapping of her own.

We got our grocery shopping done for everything we need for Christmas morning breakfast and dinner, plus all of the normal stuff for the week.

I hope everyone is having a great Sunday!

@George Broderick Jr. the hour I put together from your list you had on a thread will air at 10am your time.

Re: dwindling merchandise at stores: my sister once knew an owner of a local kitchen supply store. It had shops all around. He once told her from a business standpoint you plan all year. The mall here polled people in June asking them what they wanted for the holidays. The kitchen store owner said he ordered his Christmas inventory in February after attending a trade show in January. So. As we see the aisles deplete their merch it’s ok. It’s only a few weeks before the wheels start turning for 2020 and we will be here. If that fates allow. Yabba!
