Ahhhh ... we had one of these trees in our front yard when I was little. It was a purple-leaf plum tree. The blossoms smelled SO sweet! I still miss it.
... And we had some of these in our backyard along the fence. Forsythia ... always the first to bloom in the spring! I have a picture of snow falling on ours one March!
Those fruit trees (cherries, apples, plums, pears, etc) have the most beautiful flowers in the springtime. You're right. Some of them had a real nice fragrence as well.
We had forsythias too. There was a big (unmanicured) bush on the property line. Along with lilacs. It looked so nice in the spring.
