I will join you in the resolution of not buying so much candy next year! LOL! I am thinking about trying to join the local Trunk or Treat and reuse some of my Peanuts decor from my Great Pumpkin egg hunt, so may I need to buy just as much next year too!

Halloween falling on a Monday makes feel a little icky, but I know in the long run it won't diminish the fun too much.

I ate the last Kit Kat last night after I finished the last of the Halloween pizza, so on to 2022!
Our Halloween pizza ended up with one extra piece and trust me, someone snagged it before the night was over--and now I must go eat a KitKat! LOL

DAYS TO HALLOWEEN: 362

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Pulling the red eye shift this morning, stayed up like a fool watching elections!

At our last grocery run, we stocked up on everything that was left from the Halloween candy. We have loads of Reese's cups, and Reese's ghosts and bats! And we didn't find the white chocolate Reese's candy until the day before Halloween! But we got two bags of those, so our little cauldron and candy bucket is still full. That will be the only part of Halloween left (Aside from the ceramic trees) that I will get to enjoy for the rest of the Christmas season. Plus we are starting to accumulate Reese's Christmas Trees! Did I ever tell you we love Reese's peanut butter anything??

Yesterday was a rainy day, so I didn't get to add more decorations outside. But tonight I will keep at it! Should be totally done by Thursday or Friday night!

Have a great day, Halloween friends!

DAYS TO OCTOBER: 331
DAYS TO HALLOWEEN: 361

Good Morning Halloween Friends! I feel much better today after getting a whole night's sleep. It is COLD outside, 28 degrees! That is full blown winter weather, I don't think it is Bers weather anymore. I look at the long range forecast and wonder if we will have any more "Bers Days", or is this it. It looks like a few days next week get back up in the mid 60's. We'll see how long it lasts.

Edge made a good point this morning. November still has some elements to it where Halloween lovers can squeeze out some "extra" time. If any of you "hold onto" Halloween for a little bit longer, how long does it last? I have that little bit of Halloween that will stay because I still have up my ceramic Halloween Tree. And I'm still eating Reese's ghosts and bats. Right now, I'm kind of in that "transition" phase where my house isn't FULLY decorated yet. But the first night that my grounds outside are completely done, I kind of think that's it for me at least even mentally having waves of thinking of Halloween.

And I think that's okay, Halloween needs to "rest" over these next two months while we all enjoy Christmas season! Have a great day!

You know, you bring up a good point. When Christmas ends we tend to hold on to it as much as we can for as long as we can. When Halloween ends, we're already prepping for the next holiday, and with October having ended it's really hard to "hold on to" Halloween. I kind of wish there was a longer transition period from Halloween into Thanksgiving, like maybe if Halloween fell a week earlier on October 24th or something.

But I digress. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited to continue on to Thanksgiving and Christmas. I guess next year I'll just have to get started on the Halloween feels earlier if I want to enjoy them longer.

There are still a few Halloween displays up along my commute, an unexpected bonus of Halloween being on a Sunday- people left them up and won't get around to taking them down until this weekend!

DAYS TO OCTOBER: 330
DAYS TO HALLOWEEN: 360

Good Morning Halloween Friends! As Edge pointed out, we are still in the 300's on the countdowns. I think right now everyone feels sort of "Far Away" from Halloween, and I'm sure this weekend, when my decorations are finally completed, and the only thing left from Halloween is my ceramic Halloween trees that stay part of my Christmas tree display, I will feel that way too.

Let's just take a minute to talk about the countdowns, just a second. I notice already there is a huge difference in Feel, even though we are still in the 300's. I think about what it feels like on the Christmas Countdown, and being in the 300's feels completely different. 350 is the first milestone I celebrate for Christmas. That's the one that all these years, for me, finally signifies that time is moving again, as that whole week after Christmas feels like I'm stuck in mud. Hitting the 300 mark there takes work but usually by then, PCB's (Post-Christmas Blues) are usually subsiding as thoughts of the approaching Spring and the return of outside work and chores are starting to lift my spirits again. And it's basically smooth sailing from that point. I think these 300's that we are in on the Halloween counts are benefitting from these "bonus months" that we are in now. It's too bad that the countdown to Christmas / Christmas Season doesn't have "bonus months"!

Have a great day, friends!

The weather is supposed to be wonderful here this weekend and a few people at work were talking about taking advantage and taking their outside Halloween decor down, and on lady admitted she was going to put their Christmas lights up! What a great weekend!!!

DAYS TO OCTOBER: 329
DAYS TO HALLOWEEN: 359

Good Morning Halloween Friends! It is 25 degrees out here. Full blown winter weather. We would have snow if there was a moisture system going through. One of the coldest days that I can ever remember in November.

This morning, I am running 13.1 miles at the Battlefield Half Marathon. I have not ran the event since 2019, suffering a leg injury during the final miles that day, to slog to a painful finish. In 2020 it was not held because of the pandemic. I had doubts that it would ever be allowed to come back, but here it is. I'm hoping for a better outcome today.

It's a gorgeous run through the countryside. Even though the trees here are past their peak foliage, many still have plenty of gorgeous reds and yellows to take in. There will be big "feels" on this run this morning as I take in the scenery. Then when I get done, I am returning home to finish up the Christmas lights and outdoor decorating!

Have a great day, friends!

Good luck and well done! I am proud of myself when I surpass 10,000 steps, I admire folks like you who run and tackle half and full marathons. I hope it is a good race for you.

This post probably would have fit better in the Halloween Countdown 2021, but that thread's in the rearview, so here goes.

A bit of trivia:

All of us holiday savvy folks know that Halloween, All Hallows Eve, the day before All Saints Day, was instituted by the early church to piggyback on and substitute for Samhain, the Celtic festival recognizing the midpoint between the Autumnal Equinox and the Winter Solstice, when the spirits from the dark realm were most likely to cross over for a visit to the light realm. For convenience's sake the church pinned the date for All Saints Eve to October 31; and even the modern day Druids have kept it neat and designated 10/31 as the day to observe Samhain.

But we know that the related equinox and solstice are not pinned to the calendar; they are astronomical events, the dates and times of which wander around the calendar a bit every year. So likewise the midpoint between them, astronomical Samhain, will wander around the calendar.

This year astronomical Samhain, the midpoint between the light of summer/fall and the dark of fall/ winter, when the Old Ones believe the barrier between the realms to be the thinnest and the most porous, occurs tonight/tomorrow, at 12:50 a.m. EDT.

So if you wake up and feel a chill at that time . . . . . well, now you know.

Good luck and well done! I am proud of myself when I surpass 10,000 steps, I admire folks like you who run and tackle half and full marathons. I hope it is a good race for you.
Me, when I look at people who run like Solid Snake, I want to ask them if they want to make an appointment for a mental health evaluation--I love walking and hiking but running? Only if someone is chasing me. LOL

DAYS TO OCTOBER: 328
DAYS TO HALLOWEEN: 358

Good Morning Halloween Friends! I survived the half marathon yesterday, not only finishing without injury, but also improving on my time. All things considered, it was one of my faster runs in recent years.

Yesterday I tried as much as I could to take in the fall scenery. It was nice to get one more blast of fall leaves, pumpkins, and smell the wood smoke. One of my "last" Fall activities for this season will be going back up to Skyline Drive next weekend and driving to "Big Meadow". It is called "Big Meadow" because there is a giant meadow on top of the mountain.

By That point, the "Bers" for me have nearly ended, even though there will still be about half of November, and all of December. I just think it takes on a different look and feel with Christmas season now being here.

I'm excited for tomorrow's post so I can post the weeks count again, as well as announce one of the first "new" things that is coming to the thread.

Have a great day, friends!
