My Hospital Experience - June 12th, 2026. "The Trilogy" Conclusion

**WARNING, LONG READ**

Believe it or not, both of us slept pretty good on Thursday night. We woke up at 4:00 AM and both showered, and had the kids dropped off to their Grandma's by 5:15 AM! We were supposed to arrive at the surgery center at 6AM.

View attachment 185882

When we got there, THESE little guys had been placed on the waiting benches outside by someone. I really hoped that this was truly a good sign for what was getting ready to happen!

The doors on the surgery center were locked, and it didn't take long for a heck of a line to start forming. I thought to myself "Jesus, what a business", as in no time flat there was a pretty good line going down the hall. All of these people in line with us were supposed to have outpatient procedures, just like us. The doors finally opened and we went in and signed in.

At 6:30, they called Holly and she came up to the desk and filled out a bunch of stuff, they took insurance information, and she was all checked in and ready to go. We were in the waiting room for a little bit, and around 7:20, they called Holly back to begin getting ready for the procedure. We were separated at this point, but I was still staying strong, and Holly was texting me telling me various different things.

Around 7:15 / 7:20, the nurse came out and got me, and I was able to go back and sit beside Holly's bed while we waited for the Anesthesiologist and the Doctor to come in. Seeing her in the gown and with the IV's and stuff hooked up, it started getting to me and I couldn't help but start to cry a little bit, I was starting to get nervous because I knew it wasn't going to be long. The Doctor finally came in and she talked with both of us, explained what her intention was for the procedure, but also told us worst case scenario she had to do a mini-laparotomy, at which she would keep her overnight and we would go home in the morning. I thanked her and told her that we both felt so lucky that she got to do the surgery because she delivered both of our children, and always takes such good care of Holly. For those who don't realize in my story, this is the doctor who saved Holly's life in 2022.

At 7:40, they wheeled Holly off in her gurney towards the OR. It was at this point that I headed back to waiting room, alone.

I noticed THESE PHOTOS on the wall! One is of Skyline Drive, which is a local place I try and visit every Fall to watch the sun come up, and right beside it was a gorgeous autumn leaf. Again, I try to not get ahead of myself and try and not take it lightly, but considering finding the tiny Jesus 1st thing in the morning, and then these two pictures, I felt like it was almost as close as I could get to hearing / seeing God in action. The waiting was going to be long and hard, and I knew that this was now going to be the hardest part of this whole thing. The waiting room had this TV on the back wall that shows all that shows the status of all of the patients, each patient is given a number, so that your family/caregivers etc can track them through the entire procedure.

At 8:40 AM - I got a text that Holly's procedure had started, this was about a full HOUR after they first took her back. I left the waiting room and walked down to the food court to buy a coffee and begin my long waiting.

I knew it was going to be at least 2 hours, maybe more if they had to switch gears and switch from a laparoscopy to a mini laparotomy(regular surgery), so I knew at this point, there was nothing I could do except wait.

The hours ticked by. At around 10:30, I had to force myself to try and not let bad thoughts take over. I felt the hard pull of negative thoughts, and I started thinking of what it would be like having to stay overnight there again, and missing the kids, I mentally switched gears as one of my co-workers started texting me asking how things were going. FINALLY at around 11:00 AM, the surgeon called me on the phone and told me HOLLY WAS OK, that they were able to do it laparoscopy, and that we would be going home! I went out in the hall bathroom and got on my knees and thanked Jesus. But we weren't out of the woods yet.

With Holly moved into recovery, it shouldn't be very much longer until I would be with her and we could go home! Again, I never underestimated this day and I knew that it couldn't be that easy. And it wasn't. One of the nurses called me at 11:15 and told me that Holly woke up, but she had fallen back asleep again. I knew we were going to have to wait longer. At the ONE HOUR MARK of post-surgery, I walked up to the reception desk and asked the lady if I could please go back and see my wife, I promised I wouldn't interfere with the doctors or anything, I just wanted to see her. She called back there to get an update. I was not prepared for what I heard back:

She told me Holly had woke up again, but was in excruciating pain and had drifted off again as they had to give her pain medicine. This was around 12:00 noon. At this point, I was close to having a full breakdown in the lobby there, I had no family by my side. I made the decision that I had to get out of the hospital and just go home for a little bit, let my Dog out and try and decompress / calm down as I planned next steps. I was going to call Holly's mother to come down and sit with me, as she is a true expert in dealing with Hospitals. I got about a mile down the road and got a text from the hospital that they were coming out to get me. I was afraid, were they going to tell me Holly had to get admitted? I pulled over and called the nurse phone number and asked what was going on. HOLLY WAS OK AND READY TO GO HOME! Somehow, I guess the message relayed to the front desk was like playing Chinese telephone.

Holly HAD woken up, and told the nurse that she was having some pain, so they gave her Toradol through an IV, which quickly settled down her pain. When I got back to the surgery center parking lot, The nurse was by the door waiting for me, and led me inside to see Holly. She was awake and sitting up in a chair, fully dressed, and eating chips and talking to everyone. She looked like nothing had even happened to her! I thanked them all so much, we went through the post op / discharge instructions, which were surprisingly simple since they were able to do laparoscopy / keyhole surgery, and then we were on our way!

Driving home with her was the best feeling in the world. I think it even felt better than driving home when we had the babies, I hate to say that, but when I look back in hindsight, I think Surgery #1 with Abby was the most scary, this was
What a rollercoaster and thank you for sharing but especially for putting the "Holly is home and resting in the recliner. " out first. I hope you have a wonderful quiet weekend and enjoy the peace of having it all behind you.

100 Days to Spooky Season.jpg

Good Morning Pumpkin People! Happy Milestone Day! Today is indeed a big one, as starting tomorrow there will be only TWO counts that are north of 100 Days. And on that note, don't get too comfortable with two 100 level counts because in little over ONE WEEK, there will be only ONE count north of 100 days. We are rapidly approaching the next 100 day milestone, which is 100 DAYS TO OCTOBER. It doesn't seem possible that the counts are going this fast, but they are.

In fact, it's hard to believe that we are nearly halfway through June!

I am off work this entire week, and I'm going to visit Hobby Lobby tomorrow to get a feel for how things are going in there. Holly and I are also working on a little project here that I'm really happy about, and something I can't wait to show everyone, when it's done!

I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Hello Halloween Fans! I hope your Sunday is going well so far. The Sunday Group is going to my uncle's to have a birthday party for me. We'll play games, have some good food, gifts and cake. Should be fun as always. Happy Halloween!
Happiest of Birthday Wishes @Edge612

Good Morning Pumpkin People! The big change this morning is only TWO counts left now in the 100's!

1781521782787.png

If you think back to the old Agatha Christie novel, you will see here again in NINE more days, there will be only ONE count that is still north of 100 days. Ever since the thread went up last Halloween Night, I have tried to keep the Days to October, and the Days to Halloween count out ahead of us as long as possible. At some point over the last month, I feel like I lost "control" of those counts a bit and now they seem like they are flying. They all do.

But friends, we are truly in a good place now - Just about three weeks now until we enter the week of July 4th weekend, which is indeed another major turning point, and by that time, the pull of Fall Preseason will be unbelievable. Even last night I started preliminarily kicking the tires on what kind of movies I am going to play once we get there. I've got plenty of time!

Have a great day, friends!

I decided how I’m going to celebrate JOL Day this month and the next few months leading up to Halloween.

I talk about the Silent Hill series of video games quite a bit in this thread, but there’s also another series of games that nails the Halloween aesthetic without even trying. In fact, I can’t believe I haven’t thought of it before this point.

1781490998331.jpeg

Castlevania is a long-running series dating back to the late 80s. In it, a family of vampire hunters — the Belmonts — brandish a holy whip, among other weapons, and battle Count Dracula across the centuries. In this series, Dracula is never really defeated and is continually resurrected upon defeat because of the persistence of evil that exists in the world.

It wouldn’t be called Castlevania without a castle, so the setting of most games takes place entirely In Dracula’s castle, although there are a few exceptions. No matter the setting, you are still battling your way through a cornucopia of Halloween monsters: skeletons, ghosts, bats, witches, and even Frankenstein’s monster all make appearances, along with some other nightmarish creatures.

1781525357575.png

For future JOL Days, I’m going to play through one of the games in the series, and I’ll probably listen to the soundtrack as well in the days leading up to JOL Day. I own all three Castlevania collections on my Nintendo Switch, which gives me a total of 16 games to play through, so I’m going to be busy for quite a while. I doubt I will be able to complete every game, but they definitely check all of the boxes in providing a dose of Halloween feels, which is exactly what I’m looking for.

I'm a Doom and Quake gamer, myself. I played both series on PC first, and now I replay them over and over on PS4. LOL

I did buy an Oculus, and it's a lot of fun, too!

There's a couple of Castlevania songs on my JOL Day / Halloween playlist!

"Bloody Tears"

And then "Castlevania II: Simon's Quest" by Vomitron:

And my all time favorite Castlevania Song, "Forest of Monsters"

ALWAYS makes me think of Halloween / Spooky Season!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! I forgot to update our "weeks" counts yesterday, so I've updated them today, and next Saturday we will go back to "normal" updating on that day, since Halloween is on Saturday this year, once again ensuring that we all get to enjoy a "Halloweekend".

Folks, we are just TWO WEEKS away now from JOL Day #5, and now just ONE WEEK out from 100 DAYS TO OCTOBER. Even looking at those "weeks" counts this morning, it's a little jarring to see October sitting just 15 weeks away.

Yesterday, I went to Costco, and HERE WE GO - Halloween items starting to show up in the store. I found this to be an amazing find:

Good morning Halloween Fans!

Wow! It is only 58 degrees this morning! I am just sitting on the porch enjoying my cup coffee. What a wonderful morning temperature. It is only going to be in the 70s today.

The Fall Preseason is getting closer and closer, and I am nothing but excited about it!

“Bloody Tears” is my favorite Castlevania track. There are so many good remixes out there too.

I didn’t remember “Forest of Monsters” until you just posted it, but it instantly brought back memories of playing through Super Castlevania on the SNES.

The weekly counts are in the teens, and Costco has Halloween items already. This has me very excited. Is it too early to decorate?

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Happy Wednesday to you all!

It was really a treat seeing the giant skeleton in Costco on Monday, and last week before I went to the hospital, seeing those Halloween kit-kats. I still think we won't see any Halloween candy before mid- August, but looking at the calendar, we are only 45 days from Fall Preseason so we don't have that much longer of a wait. Even if we think of the "Candy Season", we are in the very final part of that right now, with the patriotic / USA themed small candies and the World Cup items. After this, OUR TIME is up next when it comes to candy.

I figure we are about 3 or 4 weeks from "back to school" stuff showing up everywhere in stores, and then we know that we're up next. It's a good time to be in right now. We can enjoy this very early part of summer but still look down the road a little bit to what's coming.

I hope everyone has a great day!

So there are “retail seasons,” by which we know we’re close to Halloween and Fall when we start to see Back to School items in stores.

And there are “candy seasons,” with the patriotic and summer themed candies being the last grouping to appear before Halloween candy.

Today I introduce to you a third type of season that I only discovered just recently: bacon seasons.

1781696979624.png
This is a picture of a pack of small batch a.k.a. “limited edition” HEB hatch chile bacon. On its own, this pack of bacon is nothing special, but I realized that HEB releases these small batch bacons on a set schedule every year.

Winter: Lumberjack bacon (maple & black pepper)

Winter to Spring transition: Churro bacon (cinnamon & sugar)

Spring: Campfire bacon (chipotle/spice)

Spring to Summer transition: Chop House bacon (thick-cut black pepper, red pepper, garlic and onion)

Summer: Pitmaster bacon (robust applewood smoked)

Summer to Fall: Hatch Chile bacon (hatch green chilies)

Fall: Hayride bacon (pumpkin spice)

All of that to say two things: 1) I know we’re close to Fall when I see Hatch Chile bacon hit shelves in HEB, and 2) Bacon is good.
