Good Morning Halloween Friends! Happy Friday to you all! It's as hot as the 4th of July out there right now. I thought yesterday was the hottest day, but it appears that today will be 100 again before settling back down to "normal" over the weekend.

We're taking Abby down to Luray Caverns today to beat the heat. I think she might be a little bit "too young" for it, but I trust her and she behaves well and I know she's only going to be little once. It's one of my favorite places to go to, and it might start becoming something of a annual trip.

Folks, we look on the counts today and see that we are now UNDER one month to go until FALL PRESEASON, and completely round numbers at 60 DAYS TO THE BERS, and 90 DAYS TO OCTOBER, respectively. That Bers count is going to be in the 50's when we wake up tomorrow!

I hope you are all well today! Stay cool! MAJOR turning point coming once again tomorrow!

Most years all of the counts go into a weird sort of suspension from the official start of summer through July 4th, and then BAM!!!, my staycation is over and the counts suddenly seem small and the Preseason, the Preview, and Fall are looming large! This weekend is the tipping point for me and I try to keep it as low key as possible and reset for the next 6 months!

More interesting Halloween finds…

First, Michael’s is now in full Halloween mode. Check out this cool Halloween tree that looks like a witch hat!

And second, I also discovered we’re getting a second Spirit Halloween location this year! This one was in the husk of an old JoAnn’s.

Let the floodgates open!

Good Morning Halloween Friends!

Happy July 4th, everyone! 250 years of being a country. That's a long time.

You can see on the counts above that "finally" we have broken into the 50's on our way to The Bers, and everyone knows what a major turning point today is:

The meme above has it right. The next holiday that we have, Labor Day, will obviously be in the comforting arms of The Bers.

Pumpkin friends, I hope you are well today. It's going to be cooler here than yesterday, but not by much. Starting tomorrow we get real relief from the heat for the next 10 days, and lots of chances for rain every day.

I'll see you all on the "other side" of July 4th!

Happy Post-July 4th, Pumpkin People! Today everything really changes again, as we now begin our almost four-week slide into Fall Preseason.

Everything is mentally different when you wake up today and realize that the next time we celebrate a holiday, we will be in the arms of THE BERS.

Our next milestone in this thread will be NEXT MONDAY when we celebrate reaching THE FINAL 50 to THE BERS!

I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Everything feels different today! We have started putting away our summer/patriotic decor, but the Fall and Halloween decorations will slumber just a little bit longer in the attic, so our house will look rather bland through the rest of this month. On August 1st, though, that will change — assuming that my wife lets me decorate early again this year. Last year she did not have any objections so I’m hoping she’s on board again this year!

I used to wait until the 3rd week of August. This kind of had to do with how during NFL Preseason, the 3rd game was usually the closest to a "real" game, with the starters playing through the 3rd quarter, etc.

But the past couple years August 1st has been the day for all of the Fall / Halloween decorations to come out. It just feels like the right time.

I'm happy to know that date is less than 4 full weeks away!!!

I will take down my minimal Patriotic decor tomorrow, but I does come out again for Veteran's Day, usually when Halloween goes down. I used to wait until Labor Day to put up Fall Decor and October 1st for my Halloween but I have been moving them both up since joining MMC and it makes August happier, if not any cooler! LOL! My Fall/Harvest decor stays up until Thanksgiving (or the weekend before if I am not hosting) and I feel like I need to do a better job of packing it up and doing some cleaning before I start bringing out Christmas. I am not sure that I have the restraint but I can always have goals!

Good morning Halloween Fans!

I hope everyone enjoyed the 4th of July. We were working at a booth for one of the city festivals. It was a long afternoon and evening, but overall not too bad.

With the 4th behind us, everyone is right, things just feel different! We have some Christmas in July to enjoy, followed quickly by the Fall Pre-Season! I am really excited.

The animatronics we bought last month are still sitting in the boxes, but I think that is going to change VERY soon. My wife mentioned yesterday that we should go ahead and put them up! That will give a splash of Halloween in the living room! The tree in the room will keep its patriotic decor through July most likely. Although we could take the decor off and just have the lights on.

Not sure exactly when the full Halloween decor will go up. Certainly in August, just not sure exactly when. This summer is a bit different for me since I am not coaching HS football. Usually I get really busy the week after the 4th of July, but not this year! So, since I will have more time, there is a good chance the Halloween stuff comes out plenty early in August. The outside stuff usually does not go up until Labor Day weekend, but who knows, maybe it comes out a little earlier this year.

I was just talking about how high school sports are part of the reason Back to School is creeping up earlier and earlier in Illinois. When I was in school we would have Semester Exams well after we got back from Christmas break, now they prefer to get them in before the break. With most schools offering dual credit courses through the local community college and colleges wanting transcripts for seniors applying for admissions I think starting in the first half of August is here to stay. I can only imagine the extra time you will have this Fall without practices, bus rides, games, and all the prep! Enjoy the time with family, friends, and of course, DECOR!!!

Hello Halloween Fans! I hope you are doing well. The 4th was awesome. I told Coach today feels like December 26th (thankfully it's not though). But it has that day after a big holiday feel where everyone is a little tired and no holidays in sight. Happy Halloween!

It is the same in Ohio, and has been for awhile now. Schools start back anywhere from mid-August to right after Labor Day, just depends on the district. My school starts back on August 26th this year. Of course teachers come in a few days before that.

We have our exams before Christmas break too, even though the semester does not end until we get back after break. While I wish the exams were actually at the end of the semester, part of it makes sense. It keeps the students focused going into Christmas break and it helps them not forget everything over the break.

My school gets out right before Memorial Day, but some schools go through the 1st week of August.

We also offer a lot of dual credit courses, I myself teach 3 dual credit courses; American History, Government, and Ancient Greece. Our students also have the option of taking online courses through local colleges or even attending the local colleges.

My son is going into his senior year and yes, the application process starts August 1st. However, the early application period for most colleges goes until October. It is made simpler for most colleges through the "CommonApp" which allows students to fill out the application 1 time and send it to multiple colleges. That also helps HS teachers writing letters of recommendation because you write 1 letter that is uploaded to that system and it works for all of the colleges the student applies to. My son will fill that out, but he will also apply for some Honors Programs and most schools have a separate application for those, in addition to the normal application. So he is going to be busy with all of that early next month.

I broke out this shirt today. It’s been in the closet since last year, so I figured that it was time, you know, since we’re past July 4th now.

How nice for students (and teachers) to have all of the application process in one place, I hope your son enjoys his senior year and finds a college/uni that is the right fit for him. And for both our sakes, I hope the Back to School barrage doesn't hit too hard/too soon. LOL!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Happy Monday! This is the first week back to work I've had in a few weeks where I work all week. I hope it doesn't drag. I'm already looking forward to the upcoming weekend, it's really mentally different now that July 4th is in the rear view mirror, and now the next big date I'm tracking is Fall Preseason, which now arrives in just under 4 weeks.

Folks, as of today we are just ONE WEEK AWAY from the 50 DAY PREVIEW OF THE BERS. I know everybody reading these pages are excited for that.

Our heatwave is over and all of this week we enjoy lower temperatures and we expect some much-needed rain.

Let me take a minute and plug JOL Day #6 real quick, this will be the JOL Day that sends us back to Fall Pre-Season, and by proxy, THE BERS. It dawned on me this morning when making the counts and I think that maybe only JOL Day in January shares the same "turning point" energy. A strong argument could be made for September's JOL Day too, as we are strong in The Bers at that point and getting ready to go into OUR time, October. You can see we have lots to look forward to! This couple of week lull before the next JOL Day is kind of the calm before the storm!

Have a great day!
