Halloween will see only 1 in 10 braving the elements to trick or treat this year. Survey respondents of MyMerryChristmas.com’s annual survey of holidays said that long before the CDC recommended folks forego the door-to-door tradition this year.
It is just one many holiday trends shifting in 2020. World events such as the pandemic, election year politics and civil unrest have changed everything about holiday celebration, as we shared previously in discussing the trends of Christmas 2020.
“Halloween has been evolving for well over two decades as a more adult-driven celebration,” said Jeff Westover of...

Our survey was before any of the cancellations of Halloween. I think people have known for months that Halloween as they knew it just wasn't going to happen.

The stats for Thanksgiving are...happier. And we'll have those out soon.

I just don’t feel safe this year handing out goodies to kids who have been going to school on the hybrid plan for a few weeks. I hate to be a “Halloween Scrooge,” but our porch light will be off this year if the town allows trick-or-treating.

I don't think you're alone in that feeling.

I'm not too worried. In recent years we have had so few trick or treaters anyway. I'm not expecting any.

I'm just going to put one of these on the front door...

My family and I are planning on having "campout" around the firepit on Halloween night. We will have roasted weenies, grilled cheese, and s'mores. It seems just safer all the way 'round.

It's a shame but understandable. My plan was to leave a bowl of candy at my gate besides a glowing pumpkin!

We did a 180 over the weekend ... decided we'd better prepare for any trick-or-treaters after all. We got a couple bags of fun-size chocolate bars, and Mr. made up sealed sandwich baggies with an assorted of candies in each. That way, if the doorbell rings, we can quickly hand out baggies and minimize contact.
