I have to say it. I just "hate" that Christmas is in just a few days. I'm really not looking forward to that sort of "empty space" between after Christmas. I know we have the MMC special days to look forward to, but I always feel every year that I can't feel "real" progress until Spring starts getting close and we start looking forward to Easter. Because Easter dinner and family gathering, in so many ways is so similar to Christmas and Thanksgiving!

Have a great Tuesday!
I use to dread Easter due to having more ham. I have since went to asking what everyone wants to eat..if they want ham then I make something I want to eat. I am going for either prime rib or blueberry ribs this year.

Yep. This. Exactly this. The dread is already starting to creep in. I'm really going to try to keep myself busy next week and avoid any PCBs. January especially is such a tough month.

I am going to try my darndest to convince everyone that we need either ribs or brisket or prime rib this year for Easter. Thanksgiving is for turkey, Christmas is for ham, Easter needs its own special meat.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 338
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 316
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 255

Happy Christmas Business! Today folks we move ahead into Day 2 of Christmas Week on a Tuesday here. And we have the following counts in this thread: 338 to Thanksgiving, 316 to November, 255 to The Bers. Our next milestones will be the next 2 days folks (back to back) when on Wednesday we reach the Arrival Of Winter and on Thursday we reach Tom Turkey Day #1. Going to be a fun couple of days here on our 2 biggest days of the week (Wednesday’s poll and Thursday’s though). We move ahead in our Happy Holidays feeling happy that we are in Christmas Week. It’s Tuesday folks so share those pictures of turkey, stuffing, gravy, or anything you find that reminds you of Thanksgiving which brought us the Happy Holidays. Don’t believe me? Just think back to how innocent things were in the days, weeks and months leading up to Thanksgiving. So innocent. Now? Look at us heading right towards Christmas Weekend. Amazing. So post your pictures today folks on picture day. I used to hate taking pictures in school but in this thread it makes Tuesdays fun. And no matter what your plans are today I hope you get your preparations moving along for the huge holiday weekend ahead of us. There’s nothing this big after this folks until…THANKSGIVING. But right now I’m just focused on finishing my wrapping and trying to find a few Thanksgiving pictures. Simplicity is the best. Have a great Christmas Business!
I'm glad we already have milestone days, because any progress is good progress. I'm going to avoid thinking about the summer sweatfest right now and just think forward to our Bers Farewell Dinner next week. It will be even more Thanksgiving-like now because my wife bought all of the ingredients to make dressing for Christmas...only to be told by her grandmother that she was making the dressing herself this year. She thought our oven would still be broken. So now we're adding dressing to the menu!

Why not schedule some big family dinners? Maybe a monthly family dinner and pick a theme for each month's dinner. You get that family togetherness feel plus you get another countdown to the big holidays. During the hotter months you could smoke a ham or turkey and make colder sides.

Whenever we need that big family togetherness fix my SIL and I will plan a big family dinner.

Yams with marshmallows. YUM!

Blueberry ribs? That combo sounds heavenly to me. We had a work banquet at a hotel restaurant and usually the food is meh at best. Well they served a fillet mignon with a raspberry reduction and it was heaven in your mouth. Since then I have tried different fruit glazes and reductions and have really grown to love them.

I make a blueberry reduction and infuse it with your favorite bourbon. I usually use JD as my carrier since its the base for so many of my bbq sauces and dips.

We make a venison hind quarter with Smuckers Grape Jelly for New Years sometimes. It has to go inside a big turkey bag to cook. I might have to try raspberry with a bear roast..sounds delightful!

I hear ya. But I remember years ago someone on the main countdown on December 23 was saying "ohhhhhhhh no it's almost over". And I replied to them simply saying I understand but at the same point if something isn't ever over then it never happens and I want Christmas Eve/Day to happen.

And if January is one of those really cold January's...that's the worst. To someone like me a really cold January is like a really hot/humid July to someone like CW!

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 337
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 315
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 254

Happy Christmas Countdown! Today folks we have arrived at a milestone. But we’ll get to that in a moment. First our counts show we have 337 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 315 until November and 254 until The Bers. Our milestone day today folks is we welcome in the Arrival Of Winter! The 3-season journey back to the #1 (by far) season of Autumn begins today. We continue along in our Happy Holidays portion of this thread with our Weekly Wednesday Poll talking about Winter vs. Spring vs. Summer!

We all know that Autumn is #1 (it technically includes 90% of the Christmas Season in it too folks which is crazy). So my question to you is out of the next 3 seasons how would you rank them in order of your favorite to least favorite?

  • Spring, Summer, Winter
  • Summer, Winter, Spring
  • Winter, Spring, Summer
  • Spring, Winter, Summer
  • Summer, Spring, Winter
  • Winter, Summer, Spring
  • I’m going with E. You all know I love summer. Yes, it gets too hot sometimes but I still would rather be able to walk around in shorts everyday then be freezing going out. Plus it’s closer to The Bers. Spring is nice. Winter…well I can do without it to be honest unless it’s a mild winter. What about you? Plenty of options in today’s poll. Getting closer to Christmas friends…keep those turkey thoughts in your head which only we in this chat have this time of year. Have a great Christmas Countdown!

Wow. Tough one.

Going stricktly by weather I would go with A. Spring has been moving up the last couple of years. It is a mirror image of fall.

Including seasonal activities/ weather combo I would go E. Even though I hate the heat, i still love many of the great summer activities.
