Thanksgiving 2023 Thread

Happy Build Down MMC! Today folks we have 331 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 309 days to go until November, and 248 days left until The Bers. Our next milestone will be folks believe it or not on Sunday when we enter a brand new month (January) and a brand new year (2023). Amazing isn’t it? But folks today is Tuesday so it’s picture day. Feel free to put up a picture or 2 today showing your love for this very special holiday we all celebrate/talk about all year long here in this thread: Thanksgiving. Any autumn pictures are welcome as well of course. I’ll be back later hopefully to post something briefly. This week is still hectic now trying to balance working a couple days and visiting family (and trying to rest somewhere). Now for all you turkey fans you know that our Happy Holidays will continue this week and right into the start of the weekend (and the end of the year). My brother is still here from San Diego and I’m thankful for that. Without him what would I do? He has become such an important part of Christmas (his visit). It made me smile when his wife brought up ‘Next Christmas” and mentioned about coming here. My brother actually used to come for Thanksgiving too but it kind of silly to come 3,000 miles for that and then run back a month later when he could come in the summer so split it up so he started doing that for a while. Oh well turkey fans enjoy your Tuesday will you? And keep gobbling and hopefully not wobbling like a turkey after all the goodies we eat this time of year. Have a great Build Down!​
 
While I was grocery shopping yesterday, I was happy to see some BIG turkeys that were about a dollar a pound, and of course the little small turkey breast "turkeys" that we usually get for Rudolph Day or to use in gumbo, etc....

I really do think it goes by fast after we get out of this slog. It's weird coming on the main board and not seeing Crown's countdown, even though all of us know that he always takes the last week of December off. But I do look forward to getting back on here Saturday night along with everyone else to welcome the "new" countdown season!

Folks, I'm hoping that we eat turkey for our New Year's eve dinner, because if we don't, I'm fairly sure the next time we have turkey will not be until Easter, because recently we have started incorporating a "Christmas Meatloaf" into our MMC Special Days celebrations. I never would have associated Meatloaf with Christmas, but my wife started making a "spicy" meatloaf a year or so ago, and it just for whatever reason in my brain says "Happy Holidays". I honestly think we did it one time on a Rudolph Day, and it just stuck ever since then as a Holiday staple.

I remember you sharing that recipe here, and I still have yet to try it! I'll have to give it a go this year.

As for Easter, I'm really going to try to do something different this year. My heart is saying "prime rib," but embarrassingly enough I have never actually cooked a prime rib before, so I have my reservations. Maybe 2023 is the year to try new things!

Everyone liked it as well, especially the dark meat eaters as it was easier to eat. I have lots of leftovers because I always make enough for people to take some home and they always leave me too much. LOL.

Did you stuff it also? I roll them up and tie with string. Pop it in a turkey bag and its good to go.I once got 3 turkeys in a oven..2 stuffed and 1 dry rubbed and bbq sauced.

Prime ribs are ridiculous expensive now. My friend paid 85.00+ per roast he got for Christmas dinner here. They are pretty easy to make.

The nice thing about prime rib is if you like it rare (I don't), it almost fixes itself. You would do great with it.

I haven't tried stuffing it. That sounds like a great idea. I recently discovered doing stuffing in the crock pot and it comes out so perfect, but I think stuffing and rolling it sounds really yummy.
 
Have I mentioned in the last 48 hours how much I love Thanksgiving? Yup, it's true. The weather here is certainly not reminiscent of Thanksgiving. It is unseasonably warm (44 F) in front of a cold front coming in a few days and raining hard with an even harder wind so the rain is almost horizontal. I have to take the dumpsters to the street and I keep putting it off in hopes that either the rain or the wind or maybe both will stop. Definitely need a Thanksgiving thought to make it less odious. Wish me luck.

Happy Leftover Lights! Today folks we look at our counts and see we have 330 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 308 days left until November, and 247 days to go until The Bers. Our next milestone will be on Sunday when we welcome in the Arrival Of January. It will be a big one folks. Not just a new month but a NEW YEAR. And with that we have today’s Weekly Wednesday Poll (The FINAL one of The Bers for 2022)!

When January comes which do you think you’ll miss the most?

  • I’m going with A. At first I didn’t think I would because honestly out of those 4 choices A is the closest to coming again. I really thought about saying D because we are coming off Christmas fresh now and I fell in love with it this year so much like always (and it’s the furthest away now) but then I realized January looks like Christmas time out there with a lot of people leaving lights up. So I’m sticking with A. The overall Bers and knowing we have an 8-month build back to the 4-month Bers which is the best time of year by far. What is your answer? Keep it real turkey fans as we continue through our Happy Holidays portion of this thread. I love this portion. I love Christmas. And I love Thanksgiving (of course) for starting the best time of year. Have a great Leftover Lights!​
 
Easy answer on this one. A) For sure.

I always feel like I get a "sprinkle" of the Holidays each month through Rudolph Day, Tom Turkey Day, and JOL Day, but there is still something missing, and that is just the powerful atmosphere that The Bers bring with it. Really no way to duplicate that although I will be experimenting with some new ideas I have for the special days in 2023.

It's A for me too. I absolutely love everything about the Bers and can't wait to be back there again next year. It's going to be a long 8 months of pining for the time of year I love most.
