Good morning MMC!
I’m heading out to do some food shopping as soon as I finish my cup of coffee. I want to get it over with early, I also have a chiropractor appointment this morning. I plan on doing some baking later this afternoon as well. And I need to go over my lists to make sure I’m not forgetting anything! We’re so close, I’m super excited!
xx

Good Morning MMC !

off to work in an hour, going to be crazy at the store today and tomorrow! Nothing like working the till in a grocery store before Christmas. Some are stressed, but most are full of good cheer and wishes. Bringing in goodies for my co-workers to enjoy.
So excited Christmas is almost here !!

Happy Christmas Eve Eve MMC! Can you believe it? I can't. I'm off the next 3 days so I can build towards Christmas. This day the 23rd has become a big day to me the last several years. It's the last day to get fully ready for the big 2. And that's why I've made sure the last few years (and already planned the next few years lol) to take it off. It's a sunny mild day here. Time to get ready for Christmas Eve/Day. Can't believe it but it's here. Have a great Christmas Eve Eve!

Good Morning, Good Morning!!

The excitememt is building to a fever pitch as we rapidly approach the Big Day, now so close you could almost touch it with a SHORT candy cane!

Days to Christmas Day: 2 (DAY AFTER TOMORROW!!)
Holy Holly and Holidays, Guys!

It continues chilly, as there is now a bit of a delay in the arrival of warm weather which has been postponed by the weather service until the day after Christmas.
No matter. We will just have a real nice lead in to the post-Christmas weekend.
Our reading at present is 44 degrees here in our festive capital city, with a light rain falling.

Have a Marvelous Monday and a really wonderful Christmas week, my Friends!

I forgot to say, it has depressed me a little how so many shops have pretty much moved on from christmas already. Most of the supermarkets etc will have a corner for christmas stuff but the main displays are firmly in the spring time and it's been like this for well over a week. Disgusted! lol

That hasn't happened in my neck of the woods yet.

But I imagine the week between Christmas and New Year's will see a shift.

A few people might not remember when WalMart used to be filled to the rafters after Christmas. Aisles of wrapping paper, tape, bows, ornaments and lights. Stacks of clearance trees. They have certainly got away from that in the last 10 yrs. They will have stuff left over but the days of the .10 rolls of wrapping paper are long gone.

Our local Walmart only had about 8 aisles designated for Christmas - not counting the treats. After New Year's those aisles will be reduced to about 4-6 and before you know it, the retail world tries to erase our chances of collecting merry treasures.

The saddest reality for me isn't in the stores; it's the sight of the used pines resting on snow banks some still with tinsel clinging to the branches waiting for removal.

Hope everyone is doing well. Last night was the Nutcracker Ballet for me and my husband which some of you know is one of my favorite traditions. Even though we are both still battling these lingering coughs we were not going to give up seeing the ballet. During the second act my husband said he had a headache and said he needed to walk a bit. I let him out and sat back down to watch. Minutes later, the usher is getting me. Apparently as my husband was walking up the center aisle he passed out and hit his face on the arm of the chair. I went running (as fast as I can with my cane!) there and he was face down with a bunch of people around him. When they turned him over all I saw was blood and I freaked out. They took us both by ambulance to hospital and he had bit almost completely through his bottom lip, so 6 stitches were needed. He has a black eye and various cuts and abrasions on his face. All scans and tests came back clear so they think maybe he got overheated and his blood pressure dropped. It was so scary. We didn't get out of the hospital till after midnight and then realized our car was still at the ballet so we had to wait for a cab and it was a big mess. While sitting in the ER waiting on him I realized all the stress of trying to create the perfect Christmas and buy the perfect gifts and bake the perfect stuff doesn't mean very much. All I cared about in that moment was brining him home and I have been glued to his side today. Last night made realize that saying is so true, "t is not what is under the tree it is who is around it." Other than being very sore and swollen he is doing ok. I am so grateful. I hope everyone has a great and safe evening!
Oh no, I just saw this! Praying for y'all!

Good Monday morning, Christmas friends!

It rained all day yesterday, and it's supposed to rain all day today...but Christmas is practically here! I think it's supposed to be sunny and 70°F Christmas day, though. Nice!

I still haven't even seen The Polar Express this year, much less Christmas Vacation, or even The Grinch. It's been a particularly busy Christmas this year. Maybe next year. I still have tonight and tomorrow, though, so I'm praying for a Christmas miracle that I get a chance to see them LOL!

And I'm praying y'all have a great day! :D

Good Merry Monday - Christmas Eve - Eve :lightman

Finished all my wrapping and family cards; made plans with dad - have to pick up a few more things for the Christmas Eve guests to munch on, but I know we'll wind up with too many leftovers. Found a fitting gift for my husband's ex-wife.

Had a good lunch date with my friend and co-worker. She's the one who I took to the Elton John VIP concert in October.

While we were admiring the canvas I had made of her seated at Elton's piano, I pointed out that it appeared her thumb made contact with one of his keys unless it was a shadow, but it sure looked like a depression.

An hour and half later when her husband came home and she was showing it to him, he said, "I thought you weren't supposed to touch his piano". Now she's talking about bringing piano back into her home.

You know what she gave me? Elton's autobiography ME.

Lunch was soup, grilled cheese and fresh fruit.

My brother and a family friend are coming later today and we're going to one of the oldest Italian Restaurants in the city (I have a gift card), won it at the office party from the local radio station for me dance appeal (haha). We'll head straight to dads after that for a visit.

I'll come back home to be with O'Malley, but tomorrow night it looks like I'll be spending the night at my dads and coming home after brunch.

The gathering won't be as big as previous years, but it will be fun and we'll be able to hear each other. Somehow I always manage to wind up seating among two or three different conversations.

I took it easy last night and watched Love Actually; it's really not the greatest movie, but it always reminds me of my mom.

I was thinking about inviting Gary's nephew and his wife over, but in case my male friend pops by, I don't want to spoil the festive mood with mixed emotions.

I've given my heart permission to let someone new into it.

Weather is perfect; nice and mild - no rain or snow expected - barely enough snowbanks for the luminaries, but my dad checked and said there should be enough along with the salt to make it work for our annual candle lighting.

Happy Monday and Merry Christmas MMC! Monday morning in the office. I anticipate a very quiet phone day. The temp was 47 during the drive in this morning. High of 55 is expected and it's been raining steadily since about 1am.

Christmas-wise everything is bought, wrapped and sent. This evening will be a baking marathon but I don't mind. I'll put a Christmas movie on the kitchen TV and have at it.

Enjoy!

Happy Christmas Eve Eve, MMC!!! How can we be this close already?? Mom has a pretty nasty cold so I might take her to the walk in clinic later today to make sure it hasn’t turned into bronchitis. She can’t afford to let it linger when she has surgery scheduled in 3 weeks. I need to run and get my aunts dog Ella some more treats for her stocking too. I took her to see Santa at Petsmart yesterday. She was not excited about all of the big dogs that were there. Other than that, it’ll be a lot of Kringle radio and some Hallmark while starting to prep Christmas dinner. I hope everyone has a great day!!!!!

We had a quiet weekend and I loved it!

Friday: I worked until lunch. We had our monthly lunch meeting with our team & did a white elephant gift exchange. I received a small charcoal grill. After lunch, we took DD & my in-laws to Dolly Parton's Stampede for our annual wedding anniversary trip. In 26 years, we've missed two years of Stampede. It was great, as usual.

Saturday: I did grocery shopping and we went out for dinner, but otherwise, we stayed in all day, wrapping gifts & watching Christmas movies with DD.

Sunday: Church x 2, with the night service being our candlelight service. It was the best one I've been to in the past 8 years we've been back. We ate out for dinner afterward.

Today I work while DH & DD go to the mall & hang out before picking up DD's best friend. She'll hang out at our house until after dinner.

Christmas Eve: We're changing up our traditions this year. We usually go to the mall with FIL & MIL while FIL buys his Christmas gifts & we people watch before eating Chinese food in the food court. This year, we're going out for breakfast with DH's best friend & his family. They have no parents still living, he is an only child, his wife has sisters who are lots older than her & spend their time with their families. This year they were finally able to adopt her niece, who is eight years old. She's been living with them since she was around 18 months old. They wanted to start a new tradition with us, so we're going for it! Our DD & their DD will exchange gifts. After that, we'll probably come home for a nap, and my plan is to make cookies to take to Christmas dinner. I"ll watch the Little House on the Prairie episode, A Christmas They Never Forgot. I'll be making chicken casserole, green beans, & corn for dinner for just the three of us before watching It's a Wonderful Life. DD will open her Christmas pjs & a small gift before bedtime.

DH's parents were supportive of the change in plans. They also said that they know the family traditions they have will have to change with the times since the grandchildren are older and will soon start having families of their own, which complicates our already complicated blended/broken families that need to make time to see all of the parents & grandparents. Somehow, everyone "has" to be together for lunch on Christmas Day. No one can do Christmas Eve or Christmas night? We've all decided that it's best to just set a time for our family celebrations and say, "Come if you can." If they can't come then, they can get their gifts later. The family is growing too much to get everyone together at the same time.

Christmas Day: DD will open her gifts from us. All of DH's family will get together as usual, but we'll meet around at DH's parents house at 10:00 for gift exchange, then lunch instead of breakfast. We have done breakfast since before the first grandchild was born, & he's 23 now. Some will stay for lunch, others will have to leave to have lunch with other family. We'll come home after lunch. Maybe a quick nap, maybe! I'll make the chili before heading out to my parent's house for dinner & gift exchange as usual. We change up the menu every year: this year we're doing soups, sandwiches, & snacks. I'll make chili, mom is making soup. Don't know what sister & SIL are bringing. My uncle & aunt come over too. I assume that the granddaughters are spending the night with Grammy & Poppy on Christmas night as has become tradition.

Back to work for me on the 26th. DH works the 27th, then he's off until 1/2.

Sorry for the novel! This will probably be my last time here until after Christmas. I hope everyone is happy & healthy for the holiday season. Merry Christmas!

Dear Friends, thank you to everyone who participated in the Christmas Cheer card mailing. I wanted to post in this thread so everyone who participated would be sure to see this. Mrs. Stroh was thrilled with the cards, and since she is living in a group home with four other people, she is hanging them in the community area. They have brought much happiness to everyone there, residents and workers alike. Thank you again for your time and effort! Truly, it is the little things that make us the happiest.

Hello all and Happy Christmas Eve Eve. :D

We just got back from dropping off cookies to many of the civil servants here in town. The Post Office is always so gracious and thankful when we drop cookies off to them.
While we were out we also picked up the Christmas turkey from the local turkey farm. My wife is down at her dad's now to take him to a couple of places. While she is gone I will work on picking up the house and getting ready for Christmas number 1 with my mom this evening. Of course, no matter what else I am doing, Kringle Radio will be on the background so I can keep track of Santa and his goings-on.

I hope everyone has a wonderfully merry day!

:lightman:tree::blinky:

Good afternoon everyone! Got up early and made two more batches of cookie dough to freeze (ginger molasses and toffee Pecan), cleaned the kitchen, and put a spaghetti meat sauce in the crock pot to simmer all day for stuffed manicotti on Christmas Day. I will probably assemble that later when I get home and just leave in the fridge to pop in the oven. I have to leave soon to pick mom up. Then, tomorrow is my annual shopping/lunch trip with my brother (only missed one year in 25 years or so.). I have to pick up our honey baked ham tomorrow also for Christmas dinner and a lunch meat and cheese tray to take to my brothers. We usually go to his house Christmas Eve but now he has to work until midnight tomorrow night so my husband and mom and I will go over there Christmas evening. We are planning to play cards after the kids open presents. That is bittersweet for me. I love playing cards, but that is something my dad always looked forward to doing and since this is the first Christmas without him I know we will be telling plenty of stories about him Christmas night as we play. I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Christmas Eve Eve!

Morning MMC! Been a busy morning and almost forgot to put cookies in the mailbox for our grumpy mailman. Well the end of the season is almost upon us again and the rest of the world will forget about Christmas until its thrust in their faces by the retail world. But those that enjoy all the facets know where they can find it.
