We canned a few quarts and I froze some to use. This is why I dislike those turkey breasts, they produce very little juice and tend to be just a few dollars cheaper than a whole bird.
True, on the difference in moistness, and I am always surprised how economical the whole turkey is, if only more of my family liked the dark meat.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 315
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 291
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 230

Happy Jogging Through January! It's another Thursday folks. We have 315 days till Thanksgiving. We have 291 days till November and we have 230 days till The Bers. You see all 3 counts looking good as our next milestone is 2 weeks from today on our 2nd of 11 Tom Turkey Days! Woo that should be fun and the following day will be the 300 Day Marker to Thanksgiving. I know that sounds really good too to know those 300s days are numbered. That's really the only tough part of countdowns is the 3s. It's every other Thursday poll time so see below for our special poll this Thursday!
On Thanksgiving Day how many people do you "normally" have with you in the same house to celebrate?
A.) Less than 5
B.) 5 - 10
C.) 10-15
D.) Greater than 15

For me it's B. There's usually 7 or 8 of us. And there was this year thankfully despite Covid since it was all local and people we see all the time (i.e. siblings). What about you? Have a great Jogging Through January!

I have to answer "C". My wife is from a big family (7 siblings), so now that some of them have married, etc., there is quite the pile on Thanksgiving day!

I am at D- we typically have 20 people but this year it was just 7 due to covid. I am really hopeful that 2021 brings everyone back together!

Since we have to go to two Thanksgiving dinners, it's B for my family's house and D for my wife's family at her grandmother's house. Usually. Last year COVID kept us from going anywhere and we had Thanksgiving here at home. I liked it, but this year I'm ready to get the family back together.

If we stay home it's A or B. Depending on which kids and significant others can make it.

If we go back home to Indiana, it's D. We have well over 30 people that day. It's a mad house. And I love it!!! If everybody in family was able to make it at one time we would have over 50 there. But nobody has a house that could accommodate that many.

In my family more like dark meat than white, which is okay because there are a million things to do with the left over white. I usually chop it in cubes and then make everything from pot pies to turkey ala king to turkey stata.

We sometimes have C and sometimes D. If all my sibs and their families get together then we have to rent a hall, but that happens only about every ten years. With my children and spouses and grandchildren we are at 16 but some years they have to go to in-laws and on that year, we might be a B. I guess we are all over the place but never A.

Let's hope so!

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 314
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 290
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 229

Happy First Half of January! Oh yeah the first half of January has been interesting hasn't it? Lots of leftover Christmas lights around. And it also has moved our count along nicely. Let's look at all 3 of them actually this Friday morning: 314 days till Thanksgiving, 290 days till November, and 229 days till The Bers. All 3 of those counts look awesome if you ask me. In 13 days we'll reach our next milestone and that will be Tom Turkey Day #2. The day after that (2 weeks from today) will be our 300 Day Marker to Thanksgiving. We are all looking ahead to a couple of great milestones in the latter stages of this month. Personally right now I'm looking forward to a 3 day weekend after a crazy week at work. Oh and thank you for answering the poll yesterday. Great answers everyone. Thanks for participating. On Tom Turkey Day #2 we'll have our next poll. Stay tuned. Have a great First Half of January!

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 313
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 289
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 228

Happy Middle Day of January! It's the middle day of the 1st month of the year. Feels good doesn't it? We're really entering the "dead of winter" now if you didn't already know we're in it. Hopefully it's not terribly cold where you are but if it is I hope these 3 counts warm you up inside: 313 days till Thanksgiving, 289 days till November and 228 days till The Bers. In 12 days we'll reach Tom Turkey Day #2 followed by the following day the 300 Day Marker to Thanksgiving. Back to Back Milestones here in latter January! Let's look forward to them. But I tell you when I think of the cold weather I dream about on Thanksgiving Morning the oven being on with the turkey smells coming out and the warmth of the oven on a chilly late Autumn morning. Such great thoughts aren't they? Have a great Middle Day of January!

Seeing some posts now about Halfway to Thanksgiving, and I just want to throw out my two cents, if there is any kind of serious interest into making that an actual "thing" here, like some of us are doing with "Halfoween", My family would be absolutely down to celebrate. Most everyone I know here on MMC does the whole halfway / Leon Day celebration, so I don't think this would be that different? Would this happen around May 27th?

I think that is really a fun idea. "Halfgiving"?
