DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 319
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 294
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 233

Happy January Sunday! Today folks we move along and see that we have 319 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 294 days left until November and 233 days to go until The Bers. We move along in our Winter Wonderland with our next milestone set to arrive in 11 days on Tom Turkey Day #2. It’s going to be a big one for my gobbling friends. It’s Sunday folks so time for the 2nd half of our Quiet Weekend Period. The Sunday Group has a quiet weekend (for us) and that is going to brunch today and home to play a few games. Just simple. We have had a crazy 4 month run of Sundays here doing Autumn/Halloween and Christmas stuff. It was amazing. But not we settle into a few quieter Sundays here planned. But it seems the group finds a lot of city activities and other things to keep us busy during the offseason. Yet, it’s nice to have quieter days as well. Turkey friends I hope and trust you are doing well on this Sunday. I hope your weekend has got off to a great start and that it continues going forward. The best to you my gobbling friends here on this Sunday. Enjoy it. We really are just entering the depths of winter. I admit it’s not my favorite time of year but at this point in my life I’m enjoying everyday as much as I can. And if that wind isn’t slapping me in the face with 0-degree windchills I think I can handle it. I’m sure there are more days like that coming this winter. Have a great January Sunday!

It's hard for me to think of "Depths of Winter" when our coldest day over the next 10 days is "only" 32. We get some cold nights which are obviously expected in January, but our daytime highs are pretty generous. For the next 10 days, over half of them get to 50 degrees. And historically our coldest time of the winter here is around January 19th. After that, we are slowly crawling out.

This is the first year in a very long time that I can remember looking forward to Spring, which is only 68 days from today!

I'm taking the outside lights down later today, and then I might get hit with some PCB's, but for now, I feel pretty good! Have a great day!

Having my Christmas decorations down seems to have my mind scrolling back to Thanksgiving and the daydreaming that started on Thursday is still in full force but I also feel like I might be getting sick again, worst case it is another head cold, best case sinuses from the changing temps. Grateful for a quiet day.

I was looking through my pictures of our Thanksgiving decorations tonight. Now it feels like forever until we have them out again. *SIGH*

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 318

Happy Dozen Days Of January! Today folks we move along and see that we have 318 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 293 days left until November and 232 days to go until The Bers. We move along in our Winter Wonderland with our next milestone set for 10 days from now with Tom Turkey Day #2. It’s Monday folks so time for our weekly YouTube Day!

Today I wanted to go with a simple, younger fun clip about Thanksgiving. I find sometimes the way to understand the true meaning of stuff is through a kid’s eyes and I think this clip today just gives you a simple breakdown of what Thanksgiving is that you can give to your kids and yet as an adult you can relate to. I hope you can relate to how great Thanksgiving is no matter what clip you watch of it. I think you all know how special it is to us, which is why we’re here in the month of January talking about it when the rest of the world has long forgotten us. Gobble Gobble my turkey friends. I wish you well this Monday. And I hope your week gets off to a great start. The best to you gobbling friends. You are the best. Have a great Dozen Days Of January!

It’s funny because when I was a kid, I didn’t appreciate Thanksgiving at all. Or at least not much. My parents, God bless them, didn’t really frame it as a big deal. We didn’t have big family get-togethers for Thanksgiving, so it was usually just the four of us, and I saw it as Mom making a bigger dinner than usual and Dad watching football the rest of the day.

As an adult, I’ve been able to see what a truly special holiday it is, and I’ve taught that to my kids. Hopefully they grow into adulthood with much better perceptions of Thanksgiving than I first had.

I was the same way!

I didn't really start to appreciate Thanksgiving until my extended family moved our Thanksgiving celebration to the Sunday before, that's when I was able to really enjoy the weekend before and more of the week of and especially Thanksgiving Day. Years ago it meant that I didn't have to worry about two big meals on one day and now that I have gotten used to having a much quieter Thanksgiving Day it truly feels like a four day weekend.

I'm really ready for Tom Turkey Day! Mentally it really feels good to be on the way back!!!

Evening all! Still sleepless and bored in Tulsa. We had early round heats today and both made it to Thursday qualifiers. Now we get to sit and take turns in the merch trailer. I am never going to recover from all this chili.
Y'all are racing with the big boys, aren't you?
You are at the Chili Bowl Nationals, right?
I took a glance at the participants and saw Kyle Larson, Ty Gibbs, Christopher Bell, Kyle Busch Motorsports, and Chase Briscoe Racing.

I'll bet you're having a blast. I would love to be there for that.

Happy January Teens! Today folks we move along and see that we have 317 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 292 days left until November and 231 days to go until The Bers. We move along in our Winter Wonderland with our next milestone arriving in 1 week and 2 days. It will be next week on Thursday when we reach Tom Turkey Day #2. It will be a big one for turkey fans like Rich and I. We love Tom Turkey Day. It’s Tuesday folks so time for our weekly Picture Day which we always love. I hope everyone posts their pictures of all the Autumn and Thanksgiving types of things they can think of. Of course, we love seeing those signs all year long. It is a true pleasure to come here on Tuesdays and view all the great signs we love about The Bers, Fall and Thanksgiving. That’s why we countdown to all these great things and The Bers count specifically is great because even though we left it not long ago that count is well down into the 2s. Turkey friends, I hope you are doing well on this Tuesday and that your week is going well. It was a crazy busy Monday and this week it’s going to be crazy busy all week long. The best to you all my turkey friends as we move along into a new day here and the best is yet to come. Have a great January Teens!

Pumpkin chili. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. My wife made me some for the first time last year, and now I can’t get enough of the stuff. Next time it gets realllllllllll cold here, I’m going to get her to make another batch. Tastes especially good when made with curry powder and sweet & spicy sausage.

(I've mentioned this before, so forgive me if I repeat ...)

We had a non-traditional Thanksgiving, but I have really fond memories of it. That was the day of the year that my parents baked fruitcakes for Christmas. I'm talking about fruitcakes that friends and neighbors actually liked and begged for! Some friends would get half a cake every year. My parents would mix a big batch of batter in a big roasting pan and be baking cakes all morning. The cakes would be wrapped in foil and refrigerated for a few weeks until just before Christmas, when they were given out. My parents would send me next door to the grandparents while they were baking to keep me from being underfoot. My grandparents had a color TV and would be watching the Macy's Parade. Great memories! After the parade, my grandmother would give me lunch and send me home.

So we never had a family turkey dinner on Thanksgiving, because the oven was busy with fruitcakes. We'd often have a frozen turkey breast for dinner, or even turkey TV dinners! My grandmother and aunt would fix a big Thanksgiving dinner the Sunday before at my grandparents' house: my grandparents, my parents, me and my brother, my aunt and uncle, and their son.

This is what Thanksgiving was when I was little, and I loved it.
