I forgot to mention---My Christmas cactus apparently knows exactly when the season begins. I've been keeping an eye on it, and the first buds started to form on the 13th. There are three or four so far just starting to develop. It may be blooming by Thanksgiving, and I'm hoping it'll keep blooming well into December. I love that plant---it's the one and only house plant that has not died under my care. Not only is it still living, it's growing and thriving!

.

I forgot to mention-My poinsetta from last year is deader than a doornail( or is it More dead than a doornail?). I did everything the book said...it lived all through spring,I even cut it back and it began growing back, then one day last may it was done!! and there was no coming back! I have been meaning to get one at the store but oddly enough they are not here yet,but I did see a Christmas cactus but decided to wait on the poinsetta,I don't know why I try and try when it's quite obvious I don't have a green thumb.!

My cats are older now and ignore the tree. They do love to lay under it but they don't mess with it.

When they were younger it was a hoot to watch them play with the tree. I kept the breakables off because there was no use fighting them. I would wake up in the morning to find the ornaments scattered and one of my cats would actually be sleeping inside the top branches of the tree!!!!

It was a battle to keep my tree straight but wouldn't trade my cats for anything! I actually found it funny to watch them go at it!

I have two now and that 1st Christmas was too much... One would move Mary out of the way!!! I am not kidding she would knock her down and push her out of the way to get "just the right spot for napping" I have to try & find those pictures. The other one LOVED to climb the tree, who am I kidding she still does and then likes to leap through the air, I really think she is learning to fly!!!

Don't give up - YOU CAN DO IT!!! We all have a green thrumb, you just need to work on it!!! But once you get the knack it is GREAt.. But, alas my Christmas Cactus would not agree with me!!!

I have the roast beef in the oven now, I never got to my decorating today, I am so far behind at this point, I was hoping to have the 1st and largest tree set up by today and the rest of the indoor lights up also, but today has gotten away from me, and it looks like I won't have a day off until Tuesday of next week, arrrrggggghhh! What will I do? I guess I just have to start doing it all when I get home from work during family time. :-( I feel so frustrated right now.

I have a question for all of the UK based posters...Which supermarket can I buy Eggnog from? As an Eggnog virgin I have sworn that this will be the year I try it for the first time –
hi am the same i have heard the guys in here talk about it and i have checked all magor supermarkets and they dont do. but a maureen says i have checked it on amazon and they have it think its about £11. i am just wondering wood that be a good one

Okay, I've just looked on Amazon and it is £11.99 for less than a litre of Bordens. DON'T DO IT!!!!!! 946ml is less than a quart and they're wanting roughly $19 for it.

Get the recipe off here and make it. That's daylight robbery; I bought exactly the same thing from a local farm shop (the owner is American) for less than £5 so forget my previous post. I should've checked it out first.

Don't feel bad---both my grandfathers were farmers---my dad's father was the plant doctor for the entire neighborhood (people brought him sick African violets that wouldn't bloom, but under his care, they got well and bloomed)---but plants don't care for my care, except for one cactus.

There never seems to be enough time in the day..I know this year so far has been just one thing after another. My outdoor lights are up but as of last night don't work(picture Clark Griswold in vacation)so I'm just of the opinion that as long as at least the inside is decorated I will be happy. Remember it's only the first week of the season..there will be more days off and time, although right now it does not seem like it! hang in there!

Goodnight! ... zzz....

About to leave for the Dr Appt. Everyone have a great night I will see you all back here for hump day tomorrow!

Hello, again!

The enemy is attacking me and my family. For all of you who've been through storms you know what I'm talking about. Please keep me and my family in your prayers. I'm trying to stay positive and focus on God and remind myself Christmas is coming. I'm not going to let the devil take my joy away.

Oh yeah we know it well!

Here is my album that shows that issue. http://mymerrychristmas.com/forum/album.php?albumid=530

and here is Miss Ophelia "resting" http://mymerrychristmas.com/forum/album.php?albumid=518&pictureid=5432
I am sorry that I laughed at those pictures but I COULDN'T HELP IT! It just reminds me of what my kitties done to my tree. I got to find the picture where he was asleep in the top branches of my tree. I just love those cats so much that I couldn't get mad at them for what they did. I laughed and just fixed it and they went after it again! They are calm now and don't bother it.
Good afternoon all just finished up lunch... I made THE BEST BARS last night Paul Dean's pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting!!! HOLY TOMATOES!!! I was awesome!!!
Well HOLY TOMATOES I bet they were good!

I love watching Paula Dean during the holidays even though most of what she makes, I can't eat! Dumb ole food allergies but I still love to watch her show!
Good late morning, Christmas family. I am still under the weather, but I know I am getting better. I have after-school intervention this afternoon, and then tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday we have minimum days so we can have parent-teacher conferences for the first trimester report cards. Then we will be off for one week for Thanksgiving. I am not going to be cooking Thanksgiving this year due to the shoulder surgery (try saying that five times fast). Hubby and I are going to the Elks Lodge on Thanksgiving Day for lunch which will be turkey and LOTS of trimmings. Every year, a group of citizens cook dinner for those with no families, no homes, those who want to join friends in a congenial setting, and just about anyone who wants to join the festivities. This will be our first time joining in, so it will be a new experience. We don't have anyone who is really homeless, just those who live in alternative settings. The cost of the meal is donations only, so those of us who can afford it can make a generous donation to help defray the costs for those who really cannot afford it. I am really excited about it since it will be really different for us. Is anyone else doing anything differently this year?
I hope you feel well soon and enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner at the Lodge!

I will say a prayer. I hope all gets well for you all!

I got back from the MRI about a half hour ago. My butt and lungs did not enjoy it but the rest of me handled it just fine.

And a merry day to all! I was just telling someone that I may not be here all the time...but I always come back! Oh...I still have the Christmas Spirit in my heart ALWAYS - "life" just tends to happen as you all can relate too.

We are getting sooooooo close to Christmas!!! Oh yes...we put our Christmas tree up on Oct 30th! I just love sitting in the living room with all the lights off except for the glow of the Christmas Tree!

I'm curious about who else has their Christmas Tree up?

I've got lots of catching up to do on MMC!

I hope you all have a super day!
have my tree up & all the indoor finished. so glad your back!!
Hi every one!
Remember that exam i had to do? I got an 8,8 (out of 10 ) :D so i'm very very glad, and proud. In my bachelors degree (which i graduated this summer) i always worked really hard as well, but i never got any grades this good, because it was so hard! (very frustrating of course) i am hoping to do my masters degree a little bit better, since i believe it is a bit fairer, so i work equally hard but get better grades :) that feels amazing!
way to go KERTIG.woo..wo..wooo.wwoooo!!!
After work today I go with brandi to Dr to have the last sonogram until the due date which is just 6 weeks away. the dr says right now he weighs about 4pounds which is big for that early...my mom always laughed about me because I was due on Jan7th 1975 but I was born december 2nd 1974 5 weeks early and I still weighed 7 pounds,I would have been like 10 or 11 pounds if I was on time. Anyway I am looking forward to see what he looks like now.
oh, i hope all is well & good w/ your little family dawg!! it won't be long now!! get some sleep!
Good Morning once again Christmas friends. You guys are posting away. I cant keep up! Cant believe we are offically into the "Season". *tries to remind self to breathe*

Hi All – Hope you are enjoying the early part of the 2011 season!

I must admit that I often pop in to read all of your posts (and they always manage to put a smile on my face) but do not often post myself...well here goes nothing

I thoroughly enjoyed the countdown to the season on here the other day – the anticipation amongst you all was tangible and the excitement was something to behold...

The TSAH clan’s festive season gets into full swing over the next week or two – this weekend see’s the arrival by fishing boat of Father Christmas into the town harbour, he then takes up residence in a local department store for the festive season.

This is then followed on Sunday by the towns annual Christmas light switch on - which coupled with a Disney style parade through the streets makes for a really enjoyable day.

Next weekend then see’s the annual TSAH clan Christmas decoration weekend – we spend the weekend decorating the house inside and out whilst listening to festive music and watching a whole host of festive films – I CAN’T WAIT!

We then have many plans for December but I won’t bore you all with them just yet...

As for the weather here in North Yorkshire at the moment, I have to say it is disappointingly mild, grey, damp, miserable and downright unseasonal – roll on the next cold snap eh?

Almost there...

I have a question for all of the UK based posters...Which supermarket can I buy Eggnog from? As an Eggnog virgin I have sworn that this will be the year I try it for the first time – and any suggestions as to where I can buy some would be much appreciated.

On a final note – I today spotted the first length of tinsel on a desk in my office...we must officially be close now!

Enjoy the rest of your day!!!
hope you can find some nog tsah, so glad you decided to post, hope to hear from you again soon!!
Praying for your dad ......xoxo

for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf.
The good you do for others is good you do yourself..."

~Norman Wesley Brooks, "Let Every Day Be Christmas," 1976

i just love this, made me feel so Christmasy!!
Good morning! Well, the season is well underway here, even though no decorations are up--my husband's fruitcake arrived by mail today. He really, really loves fruitcake!

I know the feeling seems there are days that there is just not enough time to get everything done despite the best efforts to, hang in there and try to stay positive and not let days like this get the best of you

That is awesome! That reminded me of the Christmas cactus my Mom used to have, it would always start blooming around halloween though for some odd reason :cheesy: I definitely think I might get myself one, however I don't have much of a green thumb either for anything other than my lawn lol

Good evening everyone, hope everyone is in good spirits!

The electrician found the problem with the wiring in my house and its pretty bad, the circuit breaker box is shot because water had been getting in it from an undetected leak around where the wiring comes in the house and corroded inside the box pretty bad so the box needed replaced also literally half of the wiring in the house is "unsafe", the newer wiring that the heavy appliances are on was not grounded properly so pretty major project underway here, the new box is installed but they have to come back tomorrow and replace some of the unsafe wiring :( House is a tore up mess right now from the work being done, can't wait to see what this is going to cost me....*shudders* Oh well I'm trying to keep myself positive about it because it will be safe and I will be able to decorate with lots of Christmas lights and not worry about unsafe wiring lol. Still dreading getting the bill for this....

Well I'm off to catch up in the fun and games section here and watch a hockey game tonight! Have a great night everyone! :tree:

Well I finally have everything done. So now I am going to kick back and relax before I head to bed. I have to babysit in the morning but I'll try to get caught up sometime. Goodnight Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!
