at our church our pastor is a Canadians fan, while most everyone else is a Maple Leafs fan. This has led to many funny jokes over the years! One time someone replaced all his mementos with Leafs stuff (he has a shelf in his study with this on it)

Oh my...this would be like someone replacing all of my stuff with Flyers stuff. At least he took it well! Lol

my secret project is almost done and will be revealed soon.

as long as you do not have to do away with us all when we get the info on this, then we look forward to seeing what it is!

Good morning everyone! Just a quick note on the way to church. Did you know yesterday was Christmas? In some Orthodox churches it was! I flirt every year with finding out which churches celebrate on Jan. 7th and attending a service, and every year I chicken out. Oh well, maybe next year.

yes, watched it on TV yesterday, it was also on the news. Even Santa was there!

For some reason, yesterday seemed like Sunday to me. Today, Hubby and I are going to the Crab Feed at the Elks Lodge. This is a major money-maker for our scholarship fund. It's an all you can eat affair. I don't like crab at all, so I take my own fake crab (which I LOVE) and some lobster. I pay for the sides and drawn butter. There are also raffles and an auction. Hubby wants to bid on a $700 outdoor grill. I think it will be a fun day, overall!!!
have a good time!
:???:

So far most of my neighbors have their decorations down. One or two people still have their things up. My boyfriend's family has left their decorations up because they know how much I love the holiday :)

Good idea, AMD. The talk of that lone Christmas tree reminded me of how I felt as a kid when trees would be on the curb, with the tinsel icicles still on them. So sad. On a brighter note, several older people on our street keep up their outside lights yearround, too. One house has the ones on their ramp lit up each night all year long!!! I guess it's a good nightlight for them to see to get into the house.

:???: Hey, what gives? Now I know another merry season has left us ...

I had to swing by the mall to buy some winter boots, I have a pair, but they are only good for getting out of a car into a warm building our home, not for treading in these Northern winters. Mission accomplished and there I was waiting for my husband to pick me up.

The specially painted postal boxes that were set up the first week of November for children to drop off the letters to Santa is gone.

GONE. I'm horrified mortified petrified and stupified to discover we have to wait that long to see those festive mailboxes again.

Crown you asked for signs - that's as sad as seeing the naked Jack pine on the snowbank.

I'm going to keep an eye out for merry signs not these sad ones.

That is so sweet of them. AND that is because you are so special!!!

I would love to get The Time Life Book of Christmas as soon as I figure out which one everyone has !! I guess there are more than one xo

For those of you who are trying to find the right one, it looks like this:

Oh, no! I just read that the Penguins lost two more players to injuries for weeks and weeks. The poor Pittsburgh Penguins! :( Now we have Staal out and Neal because of a knee injury and a broken foot. Ugh!

Top that with the 4 game losing streak, they may be in a little trouble. Geno can only do so much. Hurry back Sid!

We actually do the candles in the windows all-year long. We have a country looking candle that has a drip look and it's actually wired into a window seal, that way the kids can't mess with the cord or the dog. We did this when we built our house. I love it.

I saw the candles in the window all year 20 years ago when I went to Lancaster County, PA, my Uncle lives there and he had the candles and a huge Santa Claus collection. I guess the Christmas bug does run in my family.

Any joke on a Canadiens fan is really appreciated by a Bruins fan. cheesy

The co-team-captain of our Relay team tried to go through her second bout with cancer without letting people know what was happening because the first time she went through it, everyone treated her differently, they didn't know what to say and she didn't want special attention, just the friendships to continue. She didn't last long keeping it a secret the second time because when she told me about it, I told her she should include some other people in her circle of trust because she shouldn't have to go through all the nightmares on her own. She did.

It's awkward when you have cancer because, as you said, no one knows "how to act" or what to say, for fear of saying the wrong thing. Some patients want to talk about it, others want to forget it. I guess the best advice for friends and family is just to say "I'm here if you want to talk about it, and I'm here if you just want to watch a movie or go out for lunch or whatever."

Good morning,

I got up earlier than I wanted today, just couldn't sleep any longer, I am watching, A Night At the Opera (Marx Bros.) now, one of the funniest movies ever made. I may take all my outdoor decor down today, I don't know yet, we have other things to do.

Have a great day!

My brother was a huge Groucho fan, I liked Harpo. Grew up watching all those films and still watch the odd one now and then.

Such good taste in movies! Harpo is my favorite, too. I dressed as Harpo for a few Halloween parties when I was younger. I still have the complete costume.

Thank you! They also got an artificial tree this year because of my allergies. they didnt want me to suffer. I know his family will be taking them done soon but they wanted me to enjoy it for a bit longer. They also added more religion to it than usual b/c his family is not as religious. An example would be the glass nativity his mom gave me to display in my future classroom

SW you are very special too :merry:

Christmas Holdover Report.

At this time of year, to ease the passing of Christmas blues, I like to look to see how many Christmas decorations are still up.
I'm pleased to report that a least a third of the houses in our neighborhood have their outdoor ornamentation still in place!
Even Crabtree Valley Shopping Center has not taken all of theirs down yet.
And the "A Christmas To Remember" store, who's photo launches our annual Blossoms thread, is still operating. I inquired as to when they would close and was told January 16.
Over a week left to see them and remember Christmas 2011!

(Makes me feel a little better!)

How about you? Many decorations still left in your areas?
(Gee. Sounds like a good idea for a new thread!)

We had a particularly warm day yesterday---about 60F---so a lot of folks took advantage of the weather to take down their outdoor decorations. When we were out last night I noticed not many lights were left, nor trees peeking through windows. I got out indoor decorations put away today, except for our main tree---I'm waiting for a tree case that I ordered that will zip up around the tree and the stand and allow it to stand for storage.

We got our portraits back today, they look pretty good. Bringing the boys to the mall is such an adventure, they fight non-stop, yell, and scream at each other. It is quite embarrassing when LC kicks his shoes off and throws himself on the ground, its one of the reasons we now have a babysitter (their uncle) watch them to go grocery shopping, they are so rotten there. They are fighting as I type. Arrrggggggghhhhh!

yes, it really was lovely of them. I was quite surprised that they were willing to forgo traditions for me. It made me feel more welcome in their family. Some of their traditions are still a little different, but I can learn to adjust to them as they have learned to adjust to mine. <3

Happy Belated New Years!

We finally took down our Christmas tree yesterday, and it will hopefully be the final year we use our artificial tree. It has served us well over the past three years, but it seriously needed to go! cheesy I won't be around to put up the tree this year (I'll be in college), but hopefully my family will have up a bigger and better tree by the time I visit back home. cheesy

Yesterday we were in the 60s, but I personally couldn't enjoy it. I prefer cold temperatures in winter; the warmer stuff can wait until March or April! I'm already planning trips for this spring and summer and hopefully the temperatures will be nice then too!

I can already tell this year will be great for me, and hopefully it's great for all of you!
