Great idea! I hope you get one!!! Just think - watching all them upcoming Christmas movies/specials in HD! Ahhhhh.... :-D

I have been thinking about it!

How do regular (non-Blu-ray) DVDs look in HD? I'm hoping they're even better.

I remember when we had a VCR, I couldn't read the credits at the end of "A Christmas Story"---they were bright red and blurry on VHS. Then when we got a DVD player and I watched the DVD, the credits were sharp and clear. I'm wondering how much HD improves on SD.

I would like to be around that tree, too! I envy you your sales tax holiday. We get nothing like that here in California!

It's a (usually) annual gimmick one weekend in August to help boost retail sales. (I say "usually" because some years the Commonwealth decides not to do it.) It helps a little if you've been holding off on a big-ticket item like a TV, because sales tax is 6.25% in Massachusetts. We'll probably save enough to get a modestly priced lunch somewhere. As we say, it beats a sharp stick in the eye. It's limited to purchases under $2500.

Wonder where he got those custom shells made---the ones that explode and form the shape of a camel?? Stars and hearts I've seen, but never a camel before!

There is no telling with that camel. I never cease to be amazed at the connections Carl has!

I think DVDs look great on HD TVs. But, just a quick note that may or may not mean anything for you...

Blu-ray players are quite a bit cheaper now and you can watch DVDs on them. The DVDs actually play better on a Blu-ray/HD television, as most of them have "progressive scan" or they "up-scan" the DVD. Because of the HDMI cord used to hook up the Blu-ray player to the TV, DVDs come through very sharp and crisp.

Thinking of you~

I wish we could all meet around a Christmas tree too!!

Given the chilly spot I work in at the office, hot cocoa by the tree sounds really good.

There has been some posts about the desire for us to all meet around the Christmas tree, or sit around a fire with hot chocolate. That reminds me, this week I had another dream that there was an MMC convention. That's the second time in a month. They do always seem to come around Pines Day, so I may just need to lay off the drinks Carl mixes. Or, maybe we should just have a convention some day!

Have fun!!!

Hi everyone!! Miss you all!

I am getting ready to go on vacation in a couple of days and of course I am sick right now. I think it's a head cold but I don't know for sure. My head is foggy and I feel a little out of it. My nose was runny/slightly congested for a couple of days and my throat was scratchy so I thought it was allergies. That seemed to pass though and now I am just stuck with a cloudy head! I tried a decongestant yesterday, didn't help. Claritin today, didn't help, at least not yet.

I cannot believe how fast time flies! I finally just finished my summer classes and I have one class in the fall left. Then I will finally graduate!

I really am surprised that it is August already. That sounds silly to say I but I feel like it was May yesterday! I have seen a ton of Halloween decorations out in the stores which means Christmas stuff will be soon! Bring it on!!

Hi, Jennifer - good to see you! I hope this finds you better soon!!! Congratulations on having only one class to go - graduation is looming for you. So exciting!

you sound like me today, I had such a headache at work this morning, also we had quite the storm roll through, thought the power might go our as it was flickering. I wonder if the change in atmosphere pressure is what caused both our headaches? Glad to hear yours is gone now, mine too, only I did not get in a nap, my boss would not allow it!

Yes, I do believe the change in pressure of the atmosphere is the root cause - I can be quite a good weather forecaster at times because of that! I'm so glad your headache is gone - it stinks that you had to work with one. Hope today is far better for you!!!

Good point about the HDMI cable. I also remember when we added the S-cable to the DVD player connection, that added definition, so the HDMI cable should be better yet!

Also a good point about the Blu-ray players coming down in price. We looked at some when we were scoping out TV sets, and we'll probably get one while we're at it. We talked about it and figured if we get an HDTV, we might as well get the most out of it. I've heard about the "up-scanning" and wondered whether it's really an improvement, or more like "interpolation" in Photoshop.

Now I'm getting excited ... even though it's going to be a lot of work to hook up a new TV to the existing cable box and other equipment. Sounds like the results will be worth it. And as a friend pointed out this morning, I'm thinking of how wonderful all the Christmas movies and specials will look. The TV we looked at also plays MP3s from a thumb drive, so we could load up a thumb drive with old-time radio and have hours' worth at our fingertips. I love it when new technology improves the enjoyment of OLD technology like films and OTR!

Her parents should be made to take parenting lessons. Then again , they would not be making all that money off her would they, I feel so sorry for that girl.

I have heard about this show, and although I have not seen it, I agree with you.

Good mid-morning everyone!

I woke up to a very cloudy sky and heavy rains. Weather forecast says it will rain all day therefore issued a flood warning. Guess we have to watch our small stream and the big lake.

My dads parents are planing to give my das his part of the inheritance. His older brother already has his part (he got the family house), the youngest got his part to build his own house. Now it is my fathers turn. They would like to buy a flat, as houses are waaaaayyyyyyyyy to expensive around here. They worry that if they get sick and have to go to a nursing home all their money (and dads part of the inheritance) will be used for they care. In our country this is part of the social system.

Now we have to look for affordable flats, which isn't exactly easy. We live in a pretty expensive area and can't just move to other places.

Could you pray for us? We hope for wisdom to make the right decision. Besides we try to calm our grandparents down, as they get pretty worked up. Really don't know what's the reason for all this stressing that's going on around here.

My prayers are on the way!

Afternoon everyone!, its bright and breezy here today and the first day of Brecon Fringe Festival and Brecon Jazz festival starting tomorrow! so theres music music music, fun street entertainers and all sorts going on.
tonight we are heading out to see the funniest Elvis impersonator ever!. This is his blurb even this is funny!
Elvis Preseli and the Undertakers

Elvis Preseli and the Undertakers
Thursday 8th August
Venue: Clarence Inn
Time: 9:00pm
Info: "I AM the only bald, Welsh-speaking, Elvis impersonator who doesn't sing Elvis songs in the world " says Gareth Benney, otherwise known as Elvis Preseli. It is a bit too much of a sales pitch to fit on the posters, and even the biggest circus barker in showbiz, Col Tom Parker, might have struggled to market him, but Gareth is a popular chap in the clubs of South Wales as well as in Germany. Having said that, the organisers of the annual Porthcawl Elvis festival just can't help believing he is poking fun at their idol. He explains: "They threw us out of the festival because I used to take a George Foreman grill on stage with me, which I called The Presizzler, and I would cook up burgers, because Elvis loved burgers. "They thought I was going too far. "I love Elvis. I always have. But they thought I was making fun of him. I was actually making fun of Elvis Impersonators." What with the improbable nylon wigs and the paunches-in-jumpsuits, Presley impersonators in general are an open goal, it has to be said. But the fact that Geraint doesn't cover any Elvis songs may have got the fans all shook up too. "I always used to sing Elvis songs, and every time I was at the karaoke I would do Suspicious Minds, but my friends got sick of it. "So now we do all kinds of other material — Gnarls Barkley, Outkast, Radiohead, Scissor Sisters — but we do them in the style of Elvis." Geraint, from Aberdare, gets around the dubious wig problem too, by not wearing one. "I have the outfits — the jumpsuit from the Vegas years, the leather one from the Comeback Special. But I don't wear a wig. And am completely bald. "I do put the sideburns on though." A keen practical joker and known for his on-stage jollity with the band, I can't help thinking Elvis would get the joke. But the ban from the festival seems to be a lifetime one. "I am barred for life, yes," says Geraint. I would suggest he starts up a fringe festival, but Elvis would never have been seen dead in a fringe.

That sounds like a lot of fun - enjoy!!!

Don't forget the marshmallows!!

It must've been cool outside by you this morning, too! It was in the 40's here. Loved it!!
