Obviously not just this year, but every year, I've always considered New Years Day as the final holiday of the holiday season, not the first holiday of the new year leading to next holiday season. No reason why it can't be both I suppose.

I'm not trying to argue...I can just feel the PCB's setting in...sigh...

I guess it just depends how you look at it. Whatever works best for you I say go with it! For me it helps me to look at this as a new beginning...the new journey. I'm not really upset about it...I'm excited about it. If I looked at today as being the "end" I might be a little more sad.

For years I always considered New Years to be the end of the season or.almost the end. New Years has now turned into an extension of the season which leads me into my new Christmas deco shopping. Online clearance Christmas items are great..just looking for stuff helps chase away the blues.
Plus getting 600 lights in Jan/Feb for the price of a 150 ct in October is a bonus. Then I get to leisurely check out my purchases after I am done. (I have been known to give them a test run also at random times thru the year..lol)

Thanks for that. I learned about Candlemas a while back, not surprisingly, while searching for exactly when the Christmas season is over in an effort to extend it as far as I can. It was an incredible holiday season that year about five years ago, and is the one that really reinvigorated my love for the holidays as an adult. It's stayed with me ever since and has become a big part of my life now. And similar to what you, RachRon, and Edge612 have said, back to being that weird guy who insists it's still the Christmas season weeks after Christmas Day has passed.

Remember, the only ones who are weird are the ones who don't want it to be Christmas season. It is the norm here.

Alot of off season tend to be....Disney, Emmet Otter, TV series Christmas Specials (I guess they all fall into what I consider the ones that represent true Christmas spirit)
In seasons are always the Hallmarks or made for tv movies. Also the classics like Rudolph,Grinch..etc seem to be any time of the year. Never figured out why I view them this way but it works for me..lol!!

My wife doesn't like watching Christmas movies during the off-season, so I have to sneak them in on my days off alone or a movie like Gremlins, or Just Friends that take place during Christmas but not really considered a Christmas movie.

Even though for me personally the season is not over it seems like everyone around me has moved on already. There is nothing I find more depressing than seeing trees sitting on the sidewalk before the 1st still green as can be and the scent is still there as well..

That is such a depressing sight for me as well.

Yea, it's almost like some people find it to be more of a chore to have a tree up and can't wait until the first possible moment they can to throw it away.

It can be a somewhat of a lonely time of year in the weeks immediately following Christmas, and especially after New Years, when everyone else around has moved on but the seasons still isn't quite over for me. I like to think when I still see lights up in those weeks that it's because others feel the same way, and that it's not just because people simply haven't gotten around to taking them down.

Personally, I hate Valentines Day. But not for reasons people typically tend to hate Valentines Day. I hate it because it's about the surest sign that the Christmas season is completely over. I'd keep a mid-size tree up with white lights on it and around the house all winter if it weren't for Valentines Day being a wrench in things and making me feel kinda stupid for doing that. Then I have to fake like I'm into Valentines Day when I really just want it to still be Christmas.

This time of year is tough, as we move away from the most wonderful time of year, you should try to "find" Christmas throughout the year. I visit the Goodwill store a couple times a month since they have Christmas for sale year round. I have quite literally found treasures there like, rare Christmas CD's, Possible Dreams Santas, Jim Shore Santas, books, etc... Antique stores, Christmas projects, year round Christmas stores. I never did any of that stuff before I became a member here, now it is part of my routine.
There is no better feeling than finding that treasure and going home with it during the off-season.

On a lighter note this past Christmas Eve we tried something new .I heard of the Saran Wrap game and spent some time buying little trinkets and candy as well as some gift cards and slowly put it all together at my house my kids are older oldest being 23 then 20 and 15 we had so much family fun playing this game it has become a must for next season . To make it more challenging I included cheap gloves and sunglasses wrapped inside and if you got them you had to wear them for the rest of the game .highly recommend this to everyone if you've never heard of it .

We did that a few years back, but we had to unwrap it wearing oven mitts. Definitely challenging.

Same here. My wife works from home so I usually sneak one in when I feel like it while she's working in the other room. Or like you do, xmas, watch a movie that takes place during Christmas but isn't considered a Christmas movie.

The paper is done! I am a big Civil War nut! I have studied the Civil War since I was a kid and as a family we participated in Civil War reenactments. My dad used to make uniforms for reenactors, Civil War movies and museums. I am currently working on my Master's Degree in Military History: The Civil War.
This particular paper was a bit of a bore to write. The topic has been discussed and written about ad nauseam. But, it is done! I start my next class tomorrow. The Pre-Civil War Antebellum South.

I haven't delved much into it as a student, but I know enough to realize what a rich era it is. Funny, but for Christmas I received a set of CDs of old-time radio shows that are related to the Civil War (e.g., "You Are There" and "Cavalcade of America"). I'm looking forward to listening to those during commutes after the holidays!

I will have to look up those radio shows! Not sure if you heard, but one of my hours on Kringle Radio was Civil War era Christmas songs.

One of the classes I get to teach is on the Civil War. It is a semester elective for juniors and seniors. It is a lot of fun to teach and we take a trip to Harper's Ferry, Antietam and Gettysburg.

Happy New Year!!! Well the dishwasher decided it wanted to make the first day of the new year interesting for us by having water drainage issues. Took DH and I over an hour this morning taking it part and cleaning it and cleaning the draining hose. We think there were 2 clogs. Its running now but still not at 100% so I will run a cleaning agent through it tomorrow. Crossing my fingers that between the cleanings and the cleaning agent it will be running normal again.

Had to disinfect the house today and wash bedding as one of DD's friend who spent the night last night woke up sick this morning .. not sure it was something she ate or a stomach bug but didn't want to take the chance.

So instead of relaxing tomorrow before going back to work on Tuesday DH and I will be taking down the Christmas tree and Christmas decorations.

Totally agree. I used to get the PCB's really bad. And it was in the throes of a particularly deep post Christmas depression that I discovered this forum a few years ago. I just knew there had to be others out there who felt the same way I did. And I was truly elated after discovering this forum some time in mid January. It was the first time I was able to just unload everything I was keeping inside about my love for Christmas. And to know it's always here means a lot for me now.
