Good Morning.

Christmas Season 2011 Day # 47.
Wow.
Such a great run. So little time left.
A time of sadness.....
.....yet anticipation!

A time to lock and a time to launch.

Have a Thrilling Thursday, my Friends.

wow, almost time for the end of this year already, the time sure flew by! I find the older I get the faster time seems to go.
Next year will be better....it almost always is!

Good morning all!! We're off to have the brakes on the car repaired (I'd like to start the New Year off on a safe note:)). It's early and 30 degrees outside but we want to be the first in line even if I am yawning and freezing!. I was so happy last night to see that most of my neighborhood still has their Christmas lights up. I don't know why but seeing those little sparkles makes me feel glad all over and I hope they "forget" to take them down for as long as possible :). Have a great day everyone. Stay safe and stay blessed!!
I had the snow tires put on the car yesterday. Now that we finally have the white stuff thought I better get it done. I was surprised that I was only there 1/2 hours and it was done! Only $5 a tire, changed and balanced, nice deal.

If anyone has a story on Lucky Foods for the New Year I would love to hear from you.

I plan to make these food for the New Year from other countries and traditions. Here in the southern USA it is considered lucky to eat black eyed peas on New Years Day. You can read the whole story on the link I posted above.

I did a google search on lucky foods from around the world but would love to hear personal stories from all of you, if you have one! =)

Thanks!!!

my daughter got off night shift at 7am, she is also sleeping.
Funny thing is, she had a horrible night too...works at a hotel, front desk. Hockey tournament in town, lots of kids. This time it was not the kids that were the problem. Some workers were replacing and cleaning a large fan in the kitchen and were actually singing, loudly. In a hotel at midnight! That is a company I would certainly not deal with again, so thoughtless. Kept a couple of families up and annoyed now demanding a free room (which I agree they should get) Of course, my daughter being on the front desk is the one who got all the yelling at, actually had to leave for awhile because they guy was getting really nasty over something she could do nothing about. Told her she should have sent the guest in to talk to the workers and yell at them instead!

Oh my, I am ranting...sorry, continue with your day, just ignore the crazy poster mom who has her back up over someone threatening her daughter!

Good evening, MMC!

Made it safely back from the vet's office. The roads were very icy by me, but once in town, they were relatively clear.
Mouse received her final shot - her treatment is over

Have a great evening!!!!!!!!
Great news on Mouse!!!

Ha ha!

With our black eyed pea tradition is well know around here. In fact our store shelves get cleared out of them this time of year. The whole time I was growing up I thought it was world wide but when I started dating my boyfriend in high school from Michigan his family thought I was crazy! Ha ha! Then they realized just about everyone in Texas ate them on New Years.

Oh yeah, Wayne is from Maryland, he never heard of it either. Now it's his tradition too!

Good Morning MMC!!!!!! It's going to be a warm one her with a high in the mid 40's. I'm getting ready to head out to the grocery store and then hopefully I can get caught up on here. I hope evryone is having a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!

Good Morning, Christmas family~

Hope all is well with you & yours!!

Post-Christmas blues are a bit better, thanks to all of you for cheering me up~

Still watching Christmas movies on Hallmark & AMC, God bless them!

We had a nice dinner with my parents last night, gotta love Italian food. Went home stuffed.

Today, with my parent's help, we will start taking some decorations down. We usually wait until next week, but work will be busy & with my doctor appointments, I probably will feel a bit overwhelmed. So, I choose to accept their help!! And, hopefully won't get as sad as I normally do :)

Meceka, so happy to hear Mouse is doing well, and that the treatments are done! Hugs to you all.

Xmas, hope you got some rest & are feeling better today. BTW, we have a Taco Bell around the corner from our house..so good!

Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers!! It helps me more than you know.

Have a great day!! Hugs to you all!!

:tree:

Good Morning everyone! Just got home from the dentist. Was supposed to have plans with my best friend today but she cancelled on me b/c she is working 75 hrs in 2 weeks...dont know if i should be disappointed or not since i havent seen her in almost a month.

I'm supposed to have a girls night with my mom and some of her friends from work

Just listened to Merle Haggard singing "If We Make It Through December" on MCR. He has such a clear, crisp voice. Plus, he has a place near Mount Shasta, CA, just north of us.
I love Merle Haggard, and that song in particular! My dad taught me to play guitar, and I'd sit in front of his reel-to-reel player and play with Merle, Johnny Cash, Porter Wagoner & many others. It really takes me back when I hear it.

Have I mentioned how much I dislike Atlanta?

No offense to ReineV, but there is NO WAY I would ever live there! We took our daughter to the American Girl store as part of her Christmas gift. She had a gift card to buy clothes & accessories for her doll, and to get the doll's hair done. We had a wonderful time with her while we were there, but getting there and getting home from there was terrible!

Traffic, road raging drivers, traffic, road closures, traffic...and did I even mention the TRAFFIC??

Ughh. I hope I never have to see Atlanta again! :-?

African American families do the black eyed peas thing too, but also collards or cabbage (symbolizing money in the New Year). My late FIL used to make head cheese for New Years and give it away for luck. I don't know the tradition behind that one though.

I live in Pittsburgh, PA and I have always grown up eating pork and sauerkraut for my dinner on New Years Day. My grandma always said that it was what she ate on New Years Day growing up, so she continued the tradition with her family. My mom now does it and I can't imagine having a New Years without it! Eating this meal is supposed to bring you good luck for the upcoming year.

A lot of people hate sauerkraut because it is so bitter. The trick (if anyone wants to try it) is to dump the sauerkraut out of the can/bag into a strainer, rinse it with cold water, shake that out, rinse it again a few more times. That takes the horrible bitterness out of it and it actually tastes really good.

We usually cook it on the stove with the pork and also some hot dogs, but a crock pot works really well, too!

I think this originated from the Pennsylvania Dutch.

Edit -- Here is what the PA Dutch supposedly thought about it - "Pennsylvania Dutch superstition says that eating pork brings good luck because a pig roots forward to look for its food, while chickens scratch backward and cows stand still."
