Christmas Countdown - 2012

Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma was the third type of cancer my ex-DIL survived. The first one was ovarian, the second breast cancer. She was so far advanced that they didn't think there was any hope. Alas, she beat it!

I lost an adult friend to lung cancer. That was rough on me. We were close which was not an easy task because she was such a private person. She let me in and I will always remain happy that I earned her trust and friendship. I still miss her.

I have tears in my eyes. Your ex-DIL has to be a VERY strong person. Again I say, God Bless her.

I am sorry to hear about your friend. I am glad she did include you on her embark. I am sure it was hard for her.

My dad's dad actually had lung too, then it spread. He did from it when I was only three, so I never really knew him. He died two days after Christmas.

Sugar- I'm on the porch eating hot dogs from Texas Wieners and a Banana split from Meadows. I may have to stick around until tomorrow when Meadows has Chocolate Peanut Butter cup as their flavor of the day. Today it was teaberry and pretzels and cream.

I could use a new book suggestion today. I've been off work sick for two days-some sort of bronchitis thing. If I cough much more, I think I will literally 'cough my lungs up'. I hope these meds work soon!

My father is a survivor as well. In fact, it was his story and my Christmas miracle that paved the way for my introduction to a place called Christmas.com, the first forum I discovered where folks, like us, could gather and chat about Christmas. My father had a similar form of a cancer that Mike Douglas (the actor) had. His own mother died from it when I was only a year old. There has been so much progress made in treatments over the years that I am happy to report when I add names to "My Hero Cape", there are always more names in the "infield" (survivors) than in the "outfield" (in memory). This year our theme is whatever each team choses and my team is going with the hero theme again. I'm usually the team mascot, this year I'm going to dress up as a lab tech working on a cure with an creative idea I have to include Star Wars lightsabers to target different cancer cells. This year's local 12-hour trek is scheduled for June 22nd-23rd.

well i haven't seen a new post from dawg yet! maybe their just too busy lov'in on their new bundle!
went to the doc yesterday, let's see, tonsilitis (which i've not had since i was 14, don't mean tonsils talking 'bout tonsilitis), ear infection, & sinus infection. it doesn't appear to be terminal so after taking antibiotics i'll be fine!
i tried really hard to catch up here before posting....freaking impossible!! i figured i'd do like star & jump in.
the weather is nice here today too, upper 60's.hubby's working up in the shop, putting in new receptacles, switches, etc. i can finally see it coming together. we really should have done it right in the beginning ( the finish work). afterwards i hope to see the peg board put to good use & tools put there where they go. he's got 3 work tables piled high of tools. he had to bring 2 EXTRA LARGE tool carts home from work just before Christmas, so we had no choice but to organize.
i really wanted to do my deep clean in the house today since most of the family is home but i just feel so crappy, & as most of you know, they ain't gonna do it if mama ain't gonna do it!

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't been on here in a couple of days. I have had a raging cold. I decided I could take this cold one of two ways. I could whine about it or I could use it as an excuse to spend a couple of days doing absolutely nothing. Guess which one I chose? My husband has been enjoying his bonding time with the boys though (aka known as listening to 1,000 reasons why Wii PunchOut is the best game ever) so there is a silver lining after all! Everyone have a blessed evening and fabulous tomorrow!! The pillows and blankets are about to get another visit from me

This got me thinking tonight. At least for me many if not all of you are strangers. I know no one on this forum personally yet I feel a certain connection. Maybe it is that little thing deep within all of us that brought us here in the first place. That little bit of Christmas that is a shimmering light in the sometimes cold and frigid dark. Seawaters tonight and tomorrow, and the day after that and the day after that I'll be sending you that light. That joy, that little bit of Christmas. You can have it as long as you need it. If you always need it that's ok too as I'm sure someone will lend me theirs.

We used to go to Myrle Beach every summer. They used to have a place called The Pavilion where everyone met to talk and dance. They had the BEST french fries. Either that or the ocean air made them taste better than other french fries.

It would have been a blast. I don't forsee any vacations, except maybe little day or two trips here and there with my husband, without our kids. That's okay though! That's what being a parent is all about.

We're taking them to Mytrle Beach, SC this June - EA will love it!

Good Morning MMC!!!!!!! It is going to be cooler here today in Central Indy with a high of 46 predicted. The news just showed the 10 day forecast and it looks like winter is going to finally arrive on Thursday with a significant snowfall next Sunday. I'm going to take my niece's to the new Chuck e Cheese this morning and then it will be time to head home and watch some football. I hope everyone is having a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are a jewel, AMD. I have to tell you that Joshua stopped by on his way when he moved to Maryland. I showed him the pics you sent. He had a big smile on his face, but he asked me why I sent the pic when he was going through his cowboy phase!!!

I can't pretend to fully understand the fear and "what ifs" that are likely roaming through your mind. I do know and have witnessed amazing and miraculous recoveries. As you recall, I have included your mom and son in my Relay for Life treks around the track and I'll walk or run for you too. My ex-DIL survived three battles with different types of cancers. The last one, she was told not to bother with treatments, but she endured them and is still in remission two years later. Keep your spirits up and hope in your heart, you shall overcome! It won't be an easy conversation, but I am certain you will find the courage to talk to your family and the words will come to you.

I have put a pork loin in the crockpot!! Great minds!!! I have pictures of my sons sitting on all the Tupperware while I was trying to clean out cupboards. They have the cutest smiles on their faces!!!

...Not a whole lot going on today. I have BBQ spareribs in the crockpot for dinner already and soon going to start some wash. I soon have to go do some more cleaning. I got three rooms of the house done yesterday. It's sometimes hard to clean with a 2 year-old because she just undoes what I've just done. (I'm sure any parents here have discovered that more than a time or two!)
