** OFFICIAL THREAD - CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN 2015 **

Alright, Friends!
For the 9th consecutive year here at My Merry Christmas (and the 12th year overall) it is time to begin another Countdown!

Here are the statistics since we began the Season Countdown idea 11 years ago:
2004 = 1,217 posts (Christmas.com) = 3.3 posts per day.
2005 = Over 2,700 posts (Christmas.com) = over 7.4 posts per day.
2006 = 3,756 posts (The Christmas Place) = 10.3 posts per day.
2007 = 1,957 posts (My Merry Christmas, where the thread was not launched until July) = 12.1 posts per day.
2008 = 5,103 posts = 13.9 posts per day.
2009 = 8,231 posts = 22.6 posts per day.
2010 = 16,226 posts = 44.5 posts per day.
2011 = 31,091 posts = 85.2 posts per day.
2012 = 39,183 posts = 107.1 posts per day.
2013 = 59,747 posts = 163.7 posts per day!
2014 = 63,095 posts = 172.9 posts per day!!
(The growth of interest and participation in this thread continues to amaze me year after year. There seems to be no limit. A per-day post increase EVERY year since the beginning!)

And now here we are ready to go again, at the start of 2015.

A word of explanation. We are running a dual countdown in this thread - one for Christmas Day and one for the start of the Christmas Season (November 13).
There seems to be general agreement that we look forward to the entire Christmas Season rather than just to Christmas Day.
But why November 13?
Well, it just seems about the right time to regard the season as arriving. That date is exactly 6 weeks before Christmas Day and is about the time the country at large is beginning to really get into the holiday spirit. Most of the stores have decorated. And starting the season then gives us exactly 50 days (Nov 13 through Jan 1) to enjoy being "within" the season, giving it a depth that is lacking with just the Christmas Day count by itself.

We also enjoy noting special "milestones" along the way (see the chart below).

And there is one date you CERTAINLY don't want to miss! Many of us gather here on the evening of November 12 for our annual hour by hour and then minute by minute countdown to the start of the Season at midnight Eastern Time. It's something we really look forward to and is truly great fun!

OK, Everybody.
Climb aboard once again to enjoy reading the posts and following the count which begins today at 316 to the Season and 358 to Christmas Day.

Here is a list of our Christmas Season and Christmas Day countdown milestone markers.

- CROWN

Another great start to the New Year!!! Already looking forward to Nov. 12-13!!!!

TEN YEARS of COUNTDOWN Crown!!!!!

Congratulations to Crown 84 for heading up ten years of what has to be the most unique Christmas Countdown forum experience in existence!

Christmas countdowns abound at about every Seasonal outlet and forum on the World Wide Mess. The origin of our countdown goes back to at least 2002 at a place called Christmas.com (bought and sold two or three times since). A member named wishman35 started the 2002 Countdown that somwhow got inturupted. So he started another.

Our own sgrover started the 2003 Countdown thread. Sadly we can't open the door and go in. - http://tinyurl.com/5zsur7

2004 saw savingstar (more active at Christmas Talk forums) at the helm. -

One can already see the formation of our familiar playground! You will undoubtedly see a few familiar names and a host of others lost to the crevasses of cyberspace.

In 2005, both savingstar and Crown 84 started countdowns at Christmas.com. Of the two, Crown's survived to the end of the year.

Every year since 2005 Crown has been at the wheel guiding us in the annual Romper Room-ish comradery that we know today! Three different forums...same Crown!

Well down Crown & Crew!! Well done!!!

Here's to ten more and beyond!

Awesome job on the the Ten years of Countdown fun, Crown!!! Thank you!!!

Thank you for the brief history and the links to the history of the Countdown, RJD!!!

Thanks, buddy!

Is anybody else so so sad to see the short list of Christmas on TV? :sad:

Yes!!! Thankfully there is Football to keep me occupied!!!

Hey gang! Had every intention of coming here to bring in the New Year. I saw one of us post Happy New Year on Facebook and remembered that we celebrate the Eastern Time Zone here....darn.

Low key night here! Couple of movies and crockpot lasagna for us. Doc and Bambina are already in bed. I'm going to do some work and head to bed in about an hour or so.

Shopping tomorrow. Dillards has some huge bargains tomorrow, so I usually buy enough clothes to last me through the year (or until the next size is needed). As for New Years Resolutions....I plan on eating as much as I possibly can.

I've tried it the other way for years with no success, so maybe a little reverse psychology will work on Father Time.

Happy New Years, y'all! Have a good one!

Hmmmmm, never thought of that. cheesy

Watching the end of the Stooge-a-thon on the local channel ... An old Boston tradition. Off to bed at 1 a.m.

I wanted to watch it, but I was overruled. I love old TV38 for keeping that tradition going on. I use to watch it in my teen years.

Happy new Countdown thread and Happy New Year to all!

I hope that 2015 will treat you well and bring only the best moments and memories. :]

I am not waiting for Vienna philharmonic orchestra New Year's concert to begin. It is only half an hour away, and I am looking forward to watching it on television every year. It's such a magical event. :]

I wish you all a good day of a new, fresh year. Best wishes!

I hope it was a great concert, Happy 2015 to you!

packing away the Christmas decorations always makes me sad

It makes me sad as well Christmasstar. We take down the inside decorations on the 27th and take down the outside decor on the 1st. That will have to wait though after the ice storm here in Texas. As is my tradition I have already started a little online shopping for next year and Tonight our youngest son and i will put our "Time Capsule Note" in the tree box in the attic. Even though he's 20 years old he will not let tradition slide. Happy New Year and New Countdown Thread to everyone!
