Must tear myself away for now. Tea and video are calling to me, and I need to put together my post-Christmas iTunes library to wean off Christmas music. (I like to keep it fresh so I can look forward to it in the fall!)

RadioJonD---Official archivist of all things Christmas for the benefit of MMC! Keep that recorder hot!

Don your oven mitts and commence to downloading! At 43 gigabytes used of 50 gigabytes available, we're gonna have to jettison content starting in November!

Wheee! I'd do that if I didn't have to work from home tomorrow. If I got on that bus, I wouldn't be back in time to work! :lol:

Maybe if you wrote me a note it would be okay. (Like a ransom note.)

To paraphrase Doc Brown, "Notes? Where we're going, we don't need notes!"

...I've got about 200 Christmas albums that I have added to my collection but not listened too. I need to get cranking on that!!

Just starting out, eh?

I'm in that category!!! Still ripping and listening!

Not me; never any time for TV. My and our DAR.fm is full (87 GB & 43 GB respectively)! Crank the radio (okay, mp3 player then) to blast, baby!

Right there with ya, haven't used that yet but with just the music additions, I'll be busy for some time.

It makes me sad as well Christmasstar. We take down the inside decorations on the 27th and take down the outside decor on the 1st. That will have to wait though after the ice storm here in Texas. As is my tradition I have already started a little online shopping for next year and Tonight our youngest son and i will put our "Time Capsule Note" in the tree box in the attic. Even though he's 20 years old he will not let tradition slide. Happy New Year and New Countdown Thread to everyone!
what do you write on your time capsule notes? I have never heard of this tradition but it sounds nice, are you willing to share some more about it?

Anyone else watching the Rose Parade? I would to go to this in person one year!! I'm thinking New York for Thanksgiving and Pasadena for New Years!!!!
sadly we do not have tv service here, rely on internet and netflix. I have been unable to find any coverage on the parade other than the usual promo videos.

This is my favorite post every year. Thanks Crown!

** OFFICIAL THREAD - CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN 2015 **

Alright, Friends!
For the 9th consecutive year here at My Merry Christmas (and the 12th year overall) it is time to begin another Countdown!

Here are the statistics since we began the Season Countdown idea 11 years ago:
2004 = 1,217 posts (Christmas.com) = 3.3 posts per day.
2005 = Over 2,700 posts (Christmas.com) = over 7.4 posts per day.
2006 = 3,756 posts (The Christmas Place) = 10.3 posts per day.
2007 = 1,957 posts (My Merry Christmas, where the thread was not launched until July) = 12.1 posts per day.
2008 = 5,103 posts = 13.9 posts per day.
2009 = 8,231 posts = 22.6 posts per day.
2010 = 16,226 posts = 44.5 posts per day.
2011 = 31,091 posts = 85.2 posts per day.
2012 = 39,183 posts = 107.1 posts per day.
2013 = 59,747 posts = 163.7 posts per day!
2014 = 63,095 posts = 172.9 posts per day!!
(The growth of interest and participation in this thread continues to amaze me year after year. There seems to be no limit. A per-day post increase EVERY year since the beginning!)

And now here we are ready to go again, at the start of 2015.

A word of explanation. We are running a dual countdown in this thread - one for Christmas Day and one for the start of the Christmas Season (November 13).
There seems to be general agreement that we look forward to the entire Christmas Season rather than just to Christmas Day.
But why November 13?
Well, it just seems about the right time to regard the season as arriving. That date is exactly 6 weeks before Christmas Day and is about the time the country at large is beginning to really get into the holiday spirit. Most of the stores have decorated. And starting the season then gives us exactly 50 days (Nov 13 through Jan 1) to enjoy being "within" the season, giving it a depth that is lacking with just the Christmas Day count by itself.

We also enjoy noting special "milestones" along the way (see the chart below).

And there is one date you CERTAINLY don't want to miss! Many of us gather here on the evening of November 12 for our annual hour by hour and then minute by minute countdown to the start of the Season at midnight Eastern Time. It's something we really look forward to and is truly great fun!

OK, Everybody.
Climb aboard once again to enjoy reading the posts and following the count which begins today at 316 to the Season and 358 to Christmas Day.

Here is a list of our Christmas Season and Christmas Day countdown milestone markers.

CHRISTMAS SEASON MILESTONE MARKER CHART
January 17 = Day 300
February 12 = 1/4 mark
March 15 = 1/3 mark
April 27 = Day 200
May 15 = 1/2 mark
July 14 = 2/3 mark
August 05 = Day 100
August 14 = 3/4 mark
October 07 = 90 percent (The Home Stretch begins)
November 13 = THE SEASON ARRIVES!

CHRISTMAS DAY MILESTONE MARKER CHART
February 28 = Day 300
March 26 = 1/4 mark
April 26 = 1/3 mark
June 8 = Day 200
June 26 = 1/2 mark
August 25 = 2/3 mark
Sept 16 = Day 100
Sept 25 = 3/4 mark
Nov 18 = 90 percent
December 25 = MERRY CHRISTMAS!

New thread - new year - calls for a song!!!

I've Got the Christmas Fever - a little song I made up in the shower - to the well known tune - Fever (You Give Me Fever)

Never knew how much I loved Christmas
Never knew how much others cared
When I put my lights around the tree
I get a fever that's not easily compared.

I've got the Christmas fever.

Fever when I hear a Christmas tune
Fever sipping eggnog in the morning
Fever reading Christmas books in the afternoon.

I've got the Christmas fever.

My eyes light up when Santa at the mall calls my name
'cause I know I'm on his "good list" at the North Pole
If you didn't make it, you only have yourself to blame.

Bless my soul, I love ya, Christmas - you take my heart away
Wrapping presents or chatting with festive folk
At the Shispering Pines - it always makes my day.

I've got the Christmas Fever.
I've got the Christmas Fever - fever.

May the fever be with you!!!

Merry 2015 everybody!!! It appears we're starting the way we mean to continue and have hit the ground running. It's only 2pm my time (which is 9am Eastern) and there's already 7 pages here!!!!!!

Hope everybody has had a great festive and is ready to knuckle down and take on the new year. I'm doing a management course on top of my regular work as my boss is retiring (well, it's 90% certain) in March and there's 2 of us after his job!!! If anybody feels up to helping me put together a 3000 word essay every 2 weeks, feel free to drop me a line :D

Had a wedding on Christmas Day this year (last year?!) which was.......different! Probably would've been happier if the bride hadn't acted as if she was doing me the favour by letting me officiate but hey ho. It was nice coming home to find everything was ready and I just had to sit down to dinner. Might have to organise a few more Christmas Day weddings in the future!!!!

Anyway, enough about me - how did everything turn out for everybody else??

Great to see you, Mo! Happy New Year to you! Good luck with your job interview! Glad to hear you had a nice Christmas!

Happy New Year, MMC!!!!!! It's going to be a little bit warmer here today with a high of 31 degree's. It's going to be windy though so the wind chill is still going to be down around 0. Brrrr!!!!!! Nothing really planned for me today. I have a corned beef brisket to cook for dinner but there will no sauerkraut anywhere near my apartment. LOL!!!! I'll probably make potatoes to go with it. I hope everyone is having a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy New Year, friend! Hope you're enjoying the day and relaxing!
