I didn't know, we'll have to keep an eye on that storm.
Same here, we just learned of that possible storm. I should gave figured the first major snow prediction would've been on a night when we have plans.

Good morning everyone!
Happy Sunday!
Not too much going on here this morning. My husband is sleeping in, I hope he feels better when he wakes up. We'll be going to the Islander game later this afternoon. It's the first time we'll be seeing them since they moved to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. I think we're going to take the train in. Not excited about the trip to and from but hopefully it will go smoothly and we have a good time.
I hope everyone has a wonderful and relaxing Sunday!

Enjoy the game!

No, it's not.
Our heat quit working for two winters in a row, we managed to get it fixed w/in 24 hours, but it gets cold quickly!
Scary.
Yes, that's bad. Several years ago it did actually snow here in January. I believe it was 2011. So many Floridians found out that their central heat units are a type meant only for mild winter climates. The day time temp was 17 which for here is ridiculous. I was happy as a little clam, but as everyone turned on their heat, systems froze over and shut down. Ours did too. Since most everyone is running central AC/Heat units that are electric only (very rare for anyone to have propane units), it would take out the primary unit so a week later when the AC was needed again, we were still out of luck. Repairmen were backlogged 2 weeks.

Fortunately I did have mobile room heaters, because our bedroom was an add-on after the central unit was put in. They never extended the duct work to it. So there's a window unit in our room along with a mobile room heater just in case. It worked nicely in the living room and given the design of the house, did a great job maintaining the temps in the primary rooms we're normally in. :)

Yep, that is frigid for Florida!
Glad you were able to stay safe & warm!!

The first day we lost heat, it was -25 degrees outside. That's not including the windchill. We used every blanket we had and turned on the oven & fireplace.

Florida Storms last night:

Bud came in from work last night and said, "I heard we're supposed to get some rain and a cool front is behind it!" I said, "Great!!" That was around 8:45pm. It was still hot and humid, somewhere around 74 degrees and very muggy.

I took the dogs out for their final time out before I went to bed around midnight. Opened the door and it was pouring rain and quite cool, tremendously windy. My smallest, Cheenie, who thinks everything below 85 is positively frigid, ran out so happy to be going out, out from under the porch cover, hit the grass, made a quick 180° right back to the porch, up the steps to the door. Turned and looked at me like, "WHAT is wrong with you!! Winter has come! QUICKLY! TAKE SHELTER!" LOL

I heard Noah come in around 1am when Moose started doing his goofy bark that's just for Noah. That's my alarm for "Noah's home safe." Then I fell into a deep sleep till I heard my phone on the nightstand make some strange tone that I wasn't familiar. I opened my eyes enough to see the clock said 3:12am. I didn't even look at it. I thought it was an odd tone for an app or software update. Right back to sleep. Didn't move again till the alarm went off at 6.

When I got around to looking at my phone a bit later I saw this which was the message delivered at 3:11am from Sprint towers:

Uhm.... thank you? I guess? I mean I'm glad they send them, but it really didn't do much good since the tone was so, common. I thought, Oh WOW! Oh my gosh we are so lucky!! I went to open the back door to see if there was any damage. The temps were back up, warmer than at midnight, humidity in full effect, and still raining - this was what we woke up to outside:

And much like your snows and cold - yes everyone still left and went to work. LOL Took a few hours, but most of the waters have receded from around the house. The planting fields are still underwater, nearest the canal, which means I will NOT be walking the dogs over there. The alligators that use the canal as a migration route between lakes will be up at the edge with a possibility of being in the field. They're not huge, but big enough to harm or kill one of the dogs. Normal size for the canal is between 3 and 5 feet.

We were in the path of the storm cells causing tornadoes. The family which lost both grandparents was in Duette (the one making national news), which is about 30 minutes south of us. Our county, Polk, had a few funnels and some touch downs, but no major reported damage, just water levels. Still raining and yea-to-me, temps will continue to drop throughout the day.

Please continue prayers and positive thought for those south and west of us who did lose their homes, were injured and lost loved ones.

Glad you are safe, that water must have been freaky.

A completely off topic observation - I love that you spell my handle, "grey..." LOL My grandfather was from Dublin, Ireland. He was a professor of electrical engineering at Pittsburgh University. I spent most of my time with him as a child and he was the one who taught me how to read and write. He taught me to spell the color gray - G R E Y. Common spelling for him. Most teachers always accepted either-or till we came to Florida. I was in high school when an Englisher teacher sp'd the word, "grey," with a red marker several times over my paper. I was so confused. She made such an issue of it, I deliberately made a point of making sure I always changed the spelling to "gray," after that. I have noticed that when I travel to the northeast it's more common to see it spelled with an, "e," and friends I have from Europe also spell it with an "e." A silly thing that makes me happy.

Thank you!
With the MLK Day holiday tomorrow, we probably won't have any more info until Tuesday at the earliest. But we've been talking about the possibilities all weekend. We've got everything crossed, too!

If he lands a full-time job, we'll have a good chance of going to the MMC get-together in Pennsylvania next October. I will be upset if I have to miss that. So many people I want to meet! And I could piggyback it onto a trip back to where I grew up.

That sounds wonderful!!

Walking my Bumpus Hounds and then vegging for a while on the couch. If I don't make it back for a check in this evening I hope everyone has a peaceful and wonderful Sunday evening and those of you with a day off tomorrow continue to enjoy it!

Many Christmas blessings to you all. :sway
