Happy new Year. I wish I could say our 2016 ended awesome and 2017 started awesome but this year I can't. Yesterday was the saddest day ever. Mikes 9 year old cousin and Carolinas buddy passed away. We arent sure what happened, but we're very shocked.
Even though we have some sad days ahead, I hope you all have a great day

I'm so sorry to hear that nmc, sending strength, hugs and prayers.
xx

Happy New Year!!! Well the dishwasher decided it wanted to make the first day of the new year interesting for us by having water drainage issues. Took DH and I over an hour this morning taking it part and cleaning it and cleaning the draining hose. We think there were 2 clogs. Its running now but still not at 100% so I will run a cleaning agent through it tomorrow. Crossing my fingers that between the cleanings and the cleaning agent it will be running normal again.

Had to disinfect the house today and wash bedding as one of DD's friend who spent the night last night woke up sick this morning .. not sure it was something she ate or a stomach bug but didn't want to take the chance.

So instead of relaxing tomorrow before going back to work on Tuesday DH and I will be taking down the Christmas tree and Christmas decorations.

Well I hope everyone had a great day ... I am heading to bed soon. Good Night!

Glad to hear the dishwasher is working again, and I hope everyone stays healthy.

Good evening everyone and Happy New Year!!!
It was a pretty quiet day here, I spent most of it taking down decorations. Sad to see them go but my husband heads back to work tomorrow and I really needed his help. I left one tree up in the living room. I'm in no rush to take that last one down, I'll enjoy it for a couple of more weeks. I'm looking forward to counting down to Christmas 2017 with all of you!
Hope everyone is well and has a good night <3

Good evening,

It was a lazy day for me today, as you can probably see I was here on MMC quite a bit, and I had a Christmas movie marathon going. I watched a few I couldn't get to leading up to Christmas. I watched The Santa Clause 2, Dr. Seuss How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey), Unaccompanied Minors, and A Christmas Story 2. One more day of vacation to go.

I hope you all had a great first day of 2017.

Goodnight, everyone

I will have to look up those radio shows! Not sure if you heard, but one of my hours on Kringle Radio was Civil War era Christmas songs.

One of the classes I get to teach is on the Civil War. It is a semester elective for juniors and seniors. It is a lot of fun to teach and we take a trip to Harper's Ferry, Antietam and Gettysburg.
No, I'm sorry I didn't get to hear your Kringle Radio hour. I'm sure it was interesting! Which songs that we know today (besides the hymns/carols) date back to that time?

When I was little, we took school trips and day trips to those places. I remember going to a wax museum in Gettysburg when I was about 5, but I didn't see much because my parents got tired of lifting me up so I could see into the displays! Beautiful country around all those places, as I recall.

19 minutes to spare. Didn't want to miss the first day of the new countdown. All my stuff is down - packed away. It's not special if it stays up year round. I'm determined to make 2017 a better year and hey. CIJ is a mere 6 months away !!!! Yabba!

The songs back then were much the same as they are today. Angels We Have Heard on High, Boar's Head, We Three Kings, The Holly and the Ivy, First Noel, and Deck the Halls all predate the Civil War and most of those pre-date the colonial period. I had another hour which I featured colonial Christmas songs. They were fun hours to put together and research.

Gettysburg is a lot of fun. There is really a lot to see that most people never explore. You can take walks through the little paths and see all sorts of monuments and markers that are hidden in the woods and hills.

Bring on the glitter and faceless angels!!!

My wife doesn't like watching Christmas movies during the off-season, so I have to sneak them in on my days off alone or a movie like Gremlins, or Just Friends that take place during Christmas but not really considered a Christmas movie.

I didn't realize those were movies that take place during Christmas. I'll have to check them out. I haven't even seen Die Hard which I also see on a lot of Christmas movie lists.

Another suggestion I have for you is Paul Blart: Mall Cop. It takes place during the Thanksgiving weekend and the main events occur inside a mall that is fully decorated for Christmas and has Christmas music playing. It's a good fun clean comedy and is definitely not a "holiday" movie in that traditional sense.

Also a lot of Christmas themed horror movies are fun to watch during the Christmas off season and especially during September and October when it's Halloween season but you might want a little bit of Christmas thrown in there.

Merry Monday and Happy first week of 2017!

It's Mr Festives last day of vacation before returning to work tomorrow and the Kids return to school on Wednesday. With that being said, we will take the Christmas tree down and decorations today. I would usually take my time the first week of January and take down after the 06th but with house viewings resuming I need to have it done :(

Can't help but think back to that day in november when we brought all the boxes of decorations down.

On a lighter note .... just 8 months till the Ber months!!!!! Even less till summer!!! Spring and Easter is right around the corner!!!!

Have a happy Monday everyone!

Thank you everyone for the thoughts in prayers. Mike told Carolina yesterday and it was handled better than expected. We won't take her to the funeral as it will be way to much for her

Absolutely Festive. It's "over" but here a lot of people still have lights on outside through the 1st half of January...and even some through late January (including me and my tree). And we already have things to look forward to the 1st couple of months this year...and after that things will only get better and better. Happy Monday!

Morning MMC! 1st Weekday of 2017 is luckily a day off for me. I have been spoiled since November with so much time off. But I guess that's just another reason to love the holiday season isn't it? After today I will only have a few paid holidays till believe it or not Thanksgiving lol. But I fortunately saved over 3 weeks of vacation days plus will gain another 3 weeks throughout 2017 so technically I could take over 30 PTO days this year (which I won't cause I will save a decent amount going into next year). But plenty of long weekends throughout the year and I'm thinking the 1st one I want to take is the day after the Superbowl. Anyway, for now in January we have the NFL playoffs and the leftover Christmas lights to enjoy. Have a great Monday!
