Thanks, that's very generous of you to offer! Yeah, we'll head to Maggie Valley, and my brother & his new wife are going to her mom's place in Spartanburg.Come up to the mountains. We should get a lot of rain but not the real nasty stuff. I know you have your place in Maggie Valley plus we have a couple of empty rooms.
It always amazed me due to living either on or off the base in Jacksonville for 23 yrs how unprepared people can be. We honestly lived 20 minutes from the Atlantic and in Hurricane Alley. You see lines out the doors at grocery stores etc...Thanks, that's very generous of you to offer! ..Hint-- Its hurricane season! You live in a hurricane prone state!! I just cant figure out why people dont prepare more than they do.
I used to go to Kmart and would buy every manual can opener they had several times a year. As I got new guys I would give em one...I would tell tell em if the electric was out at least they could open a can..lolAlways felt the someway when i lived in SC. People just get complacent and assume its not going to happen. The only hurricane ever was scared that i rode out was Hugo and that was due to it being a cat 5. However we had most basic stuff on handy since it was summer and during hurricane season. While most people trying to escape, im here in TN and want to go down to FL. Just a huge weather nerd and always need to be in it.

When our electric can opener died a couple of years ago, we bought a manual one and have never gone back.I used to go to Kmart and would buy every manual can opener they had several times a year. That's exactly what I said! We too are in the path of Irma it seems (SC close to GA) and I thought heading to Cherokee, NC would be a good idea if it came down to it.We'll probably head to the NC mountains, if we leave. Any excuse to go to the mountains, eh?![]()
Good morning MMC !
i get to be on a computer for awhile !!!
Oh how I have missed you all.
Still off work, hoping in a week the doctor will approve my return, although she only wants me to do 2 hour shifts for the first few weeks.
At least I am getting some canning and cleaning done.
Amazing the way the Lord had looked after us with $ for bills, people dropping off fresh items for me to process and can.
Our fall fair s coming up in 2 weeks and I have a few things to enter in that. LittleCS is also working on some lovely crafts to enter. I am entering canned and baked items. (I know, that surprised you right ! LOL)
Hope you are doing well, hope to be able to get on the computer more often now
Have a fantastic day !!!
Thanks for all the comments on my list making / preparation.
I have a disease called Menieres (think of unbearable vertigo, nausea, tinnitus, light sensitivity and ear fullness) which rears its ugly head when I get stressed so I figured the best way to avoid it happening at Christmas is to be as prepared as I can be. Hence the lists
Im also into my own single digit countdown until our little newbie Nicki comes home. We had a call from the lady who has her that because of her size , her litter mates have been picking on her a bit and shes been bullied away from mum at meal times so we are picking her up on the 14th when she is 7 weeks old. She is still tiny and is by far the runt but she will be well loved. I have the 14-18th off and then my MIL has offered to puppy sit her when I am in work for my shift (I only work 3hrs at a time though) so she will get to settle and the kids will be with her.
Husband has put his back out so have him laid up on the sofa today smelling of Deep Heat, and so any Christmas prep has taken a backseat today but I have found my daughters old Christmas list which Im going to price up today.
Hope all of you affected by Irma are ok, stay safe!
x

Lol..I never seem to have enough counter space for an electric opener. I havent owned one in probably 15 years, and I figure by the time I dig one out, plug it in,open a can,put it away...I just lost 5 minutes. When our electric can opener died a couple of years ago, we bought a manual one and have never gone back.
