Jack O Lantern Day #5(2).jpg

HAPPY JACK O LANTERN DAY #5!
Happy JOL Day #5! You'll see this morning that we have now lost a count from our daily counts. The Days to JOL Day count is gone, and it won't return for the rest of 2021! The next count to disappear for the rest of 2021 will be Days to The Bers, and as you can see, we will be back HOME tomorrow!

Tonight's movies will be "Halloween" (1978), and "Halloween 4". I have said many times, that I think Halloween 4 has the best opening in the history of cinema, that makes you really get into the Fall vibe. I can almost feel the crisp air.

The culmination of our evening will be the special ceramic "Halloween Tree" lighting up at midnight, to signify that we are really back home in The Bers.

Have a great day!

Happy Jack-O-Lantern Day!!!

We watched a little bit of Harry Potter last night.

Here we go, fellow spooks! It's the final JOL Day of 2021, and as such it's the final "Seasonal Candy of the Week" for this year as well. And we're going out with a bang.

It wasn't enough to just give you one candy this week, though. The final SCOTW had to be BIG. It had to be worthy of being the opener to the Bers. It had to be epic.

Then I thought, "Well, it's just candy, after all." So I present to you this:

You're probably looking at this monstrosity and thinking, "What, in the name of all things holy and good, is that?" This, friends, is your stomach's worst nightmare. This pile of calories is called "Deep Fried Halloween," and get this: It was a finalist in this year's Texas State Fair.

And what exactly is "Deep Fried Halloween?"

"A deep-fried pretzel bathed in candy corn syrup and topped with rainbow sprinkles, powdered sugar, the piped with orange and white buttercream icing before being stacked with Halloween [candy]. Once drizzled with chocolate syrup and caramel sauce, the creation is complete."

I don't think there's really anything else to say. This thing looks like something you'd call a priest to exorcise. And maybe that's fitting for something called "Deep Fried Halloween."

What do you think? Is there anyone reading this who would actually risk diabetes to try this? Or do you envision this to be what Heaven tastes like?

In case you haven't guessed, this would be a hard pass for me.

Talk to you all tomorrow for the official start of the Bers!

Good Morning Halloween Friends, and "Welcome Home" to The Bers!

I want to talk just a second about my amazing final Jack O Lantern Day that I had yesterday.

What an outstanding and wonderful return to The Bers that it facilitated. With "Halloween on the screen", and as darkness sat in last night, I lit the hurricane lanterns, and pumpkin scented candles. Right before midnight, I plugged in the ceramic "Halloween Tree". The glow from that and the electric Jack O Lantern was really something there in the great room. And I had just a minute of quiet reflection, being so thankful that we were back HOME in The Bers!

There are no more Jack O Lantern Days of 2021, but just like keeping Rudolph Days and Tom Turkey Days special, there is always work to be done. In the coming weeks, and in all likelihood when I get into October, I will start working on the plans for 2022 JOL Days, as I think it will be a fun run-up to Halloween. I have notes to go through regarding my movie playlist from 2021 as well as some other stuff that worked / didn't work as well as I hoped, etc.. I know, it's crazy!

NOW - on to the Present. There's only two countdowns remaining now out of an original batch of FIVE (Days to Halfoween, Days to The Bers, Days to October, Days to Halloween, Days to JOL Day) We are back home in The Bers now, and heading to that sweet spot of September that Edge talks about so much.

It is good to be back. Let's enjoy September, folks!

Really, I cannot imagine the reaction my stomach would have to this--just looking at it has me reaching for the antacids. Maybe someone who still has a lot of five year old in them would eat it?

Good Morning Halloween Friends!

I walked outside this morning, and it is 57 degrees. I'll get to drive to work with the heater on! That, coupled with my Halloween / Jack O Lantern Day playlist is about as good as it gets. The only thing better would be if it was Christmas season and it was snowing.

Folks, I've said it before and been wrong, but I think the Fall weather is finally here. Tomorrow night it gets down to 48 degrees overnight! The next 10 days are mid 70's, and overnight lows in the 50's! I know a lot of us have been waiting for this weather, and I think it is finally here. Just one more reason why September is the "Sweet spot" !

Have a great day, friends!

Our nights are feeling fall-ish but we our days are still summertime hot. Starting to see a sprinkling of autumn decorations, no Halloween ones yet.
Same here. Had a nice 51 a.m. but will be almost 80 today. No humidity though so I'm fine with that! Took forever to get to September 1 and now it seems like it's going to fast. And it's only the third!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! We continue to trend downward on overnight lows. It's amazing. Today is 56 degrees at the moment. Tonight will be 48 degrees! I can't wait. Tried to do a little fire last night in the fire pit, but my sticks and what not were too wet from the rain. They will probably be okay today, and I might use some fire starters to help them get going.

I'm looking forward to the long holiday weekend, like all of us are.

Have a great day, friends!
