chess and buttermilk pie are basically the same thing. depending on where you are from in the south, a chess pie is a buttermilk pie with cornmeal or it is a buttermilk pie or it is a buttrmilk pie with vinegar.

but basically, they are the same thing.

My Grandmother makes the best apple pie and her pumpkin is pretty snazzy, too. She used to make upwards of 14 pies at Christmas, so I always looked forward to that....she made, lemon meringue (yuck!), apple, cherry, graham cracker, banana cream and chocolate.....usually two of each, sometimes three, depending on the flavor. Sadly, she doesn't make as many, now, but wow, she does make a great pie.

not sure why, but i was just reminded of this insane thing that was on a MONKEES album (whichever one had pleasant valley sunday on it). it was called PETER PERCIVAL PATTERSON'S PET PIG PORKY. it was a spoken piece. it was all about pie and how porky loved it. still makes me laugh to think about it. the sad thing is that 25 someodd years later, i can still recite it. (but i aint typing it so dont ask!!!!)

As a big MONKEES fan, I share your joy and love of that whole album. There is nothing wrong with being able to recite things from your youth...it keeps you young.
