• Operation Christmas Cheer
I know I'm crazy, but I honestly wished Christmas "stopped" in the morning after everyone opens gifts, has breakfast, etc... I think the absolute only "bad" part of Christmas is that evening, which we have talked about many times.

I do not get that vibe at all on the other Holidays. Halloween I am not disappointed in the least when it ends, because the excitement of Christmas season is here, and in my mind, Halloween and spooky season is "resting" until after the holidays are over and then our excitement and hunt for the big 3 again is re-ignited in January.

When Thanksgiving is over, there's just a tiny bit of being "down", but honestly it isn't much because Christmas season then being here is like a huge shot in the arm, and honestly, it's just so hard to be sad / worried about ANYTHING during Christmas season. But i'm gonna agree with you and say that overall, I think the entire day of Thanksgiving is just a peaceful happy day, there's never any part of it that is negative!
My biggest complaint also.

Halloween isn't a big deal for me, but I think the fact that there are two major holidays following it makes up for it ending.

Thanksgiving is on Thursday, but I think a lot of people celebrate over the whole weekend with multiple families, so it is spread out more.

For some reason, Christmas is the end, and most people just stop on the 25th. Stations will play Christmas music for a month or more ahead, but it absolutely must stop before midnight on Christmas day (for most stations). We often will have Christmas get togethers up until New Years some times, and the Christmas music is over, stores are purging Christmas items, and the feeling isn't quite there anymore.

For me the week after Christmas Dec 26-Jan 1 has gotten better over the years!

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 40
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 17

Happy Mid-October! Today folks we have 40 days remaining until Thanksgiving and 17 days to go until November. Our next milestone will be exactly 1 week from today when we reach the Home Stretch Till November. Unreal. But it’s NEXT Saturday. I’m not worried about that right now. I’m worried about THIS Saturday. And it’s going to be a fun one for sure. I’m making this a laid-back weekend. And I hope all of you have a great time this weekend no matter what your plans are. We’re in our Awesome Autumn and boy has it been awesome so far. I know most of you probably feel the same way. Well this weekend the weather looks to be awesome. And I’m glad for that and hope to enjoy it as much as I possibly can. And I know all of you are as well. Now if you’re a fan of turkey I know you also will start to dream those turkey dreams soon. Heck we’ve been dreaming for months and months (and months). And we’ve all been here together doing our turkey chant (well we could make one up if we wanted to right?). But anyway no matter what your plans are this weekend try to enjoy it. And reflect on where we are and how close we are to our goals in this countdown thread. Unreal folks. But still tons of time to go. 40 full days till Thanksgiving is still a whole heck of a lot of days. But it’s not 350 is it? Or 300. Or even 232. Well we’re where we are now and we’re happy to be here. Have a great Mid-October!

Wow!

Thanksgiving Thought Thursday: Is there a better morning of the year to wake up on than Thanksgiving morning?
Another question that makes me realize just how magical so many days of the year really are. Thanksgiving Morning is the day I wake up most energized and excited, not just for Thanksgiving but for the holiday season ahead. Christmas Morning is the most nostalgic, warm and fuzzy, but does have the twinge of being the end, the end of the holiday season.

When I was working I had from about December 15 until January 6 off as paid. One of the many perks for college faculty. I always had a big celebration on December 31 but never went out. I would cook a beef tenderloin roast and lasagna for friends. We would laugh, play games, and maybe some of them would have a drink or two. I never drank but knew what everyone liked so I stocked it. The party would end around 10 so I could make sure everyone got home safely. I'd usually be left with enough food to carry me through the next 3-4 days, then I'd do a major shopping trip for the beginning of the next semester.

I never realized how good I had it until it was gone.....but the memories were sweet.

I used personal days to take the week of Thanksgiving off. We already had Thursday and Friday and the college closed before night classes on Wednesday, so I only needed 12.5 hours of personal time to cover the rest. My excitement went by the college calendar. After January semester started I looked forward to Spring break. After Spring break was over I looked forward to the end of the semester and Summer.

This strange time of not working has me feeling and thinking differently. It changes from day to day.

Now that you mentioned it, I really, really, really want a turkey chant.

Thank you for sharing. I love sweet memories. I am so thankful for those sweet memories of my Dave and even though sometimes they are bittersweet, they are still precious.

"Warm and fuzzy" is the most perfect description of Christmas morning.

Very well said!

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 39
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 16

Happy Middle Day Of October! Today we look at our counts and notice we are now at 39 days remaining until Thanksgiving and 16 days to go until November. Our next milestone is going to be the much anticipated “Home Stretch” Till November folks. You want to be here for that. Mark your calendars for next Saturday. That’s when it will arrive here in our Awesome Autumn. And I am looking forward to it as I know all of you are as well. But right now I’m looking forward to my Sunday. Tonight I’m going to my 3rd annual Halloween Lights Show. It always really puts me in the mood for Halloween. And I also think about all the things to come in front of us (including November/Thanksgiving). I definitely am looking forward to all of it as I know you are as well. But certainly, overall, Thanksgiving Day has become my #1 day of the year. Interesting though folks is that the “10-week” stretch I hype from the week after Labor Day until the Weekend Before Thanksgiving reaches the halfway marker today. 5 weeks of it down and 5 weeks to go. Yikes. But the good thing is we still have half of it left. And I think we all should be happy about that. Now turkey fans enjoy your Sunday filled with fun and food (maybe turkey?). Have a great Middle Day Of October!

I am not used to saying this but Labor Day seems a lot longer ago than 5 weeks, which is a good sign that even though I though September went too fast, that I have done okay savoring the first 5 weeks and today I am going to make sure I check the calendar and make plans to enjoy the five remaining weeks until Thanksgiving. With just 5 weeks to go the shopping ads should really be kicking into high gear soon!

Nothing hits you more than Valentines going on the shelves by Dec 15th
We don't have it quite that bad where I live, but usually reliably the week after January 1st, there is Valentine's day candy creeping out on the shelves. Precisely why I created a "Halloween Candy Season" chart I believe last year:

Early January - Valentine's Day Candy
late Jan - late Feb - Valentine's + Easter
March - April - Easter Candy
Aug - October - Halloween Candy
late Oct - Dec - Christmas Candy

So we really only have a "dry spell" there for about 3 months from May through July before we get rolling again!

Happy Sunday and it turned into a great day. We finally found EGGNOG! Me and the neighbor cleaned them out. I have almost enough in a freezer to get me through 2023.
My son was home this weekend and he loves eggnog. We actually picked up a quart for him yesterday. First time I seen some. I myself am going to hold off until after Halloween at least.
