DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 28
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 5

Happy Halloween Feeling! Today folks we have 28 days until Thanksgiving and 5 days to go until November. It’s our FINAL MILESTONE OF TOM TURKEY’S TODAY! Tom Turkey Day #11 of 11 is here folks. Let that hit you. I remember when we reached the 1st one. Where did they all go? Well let’s enjoy the last one as we continue through our Awesome Autumn. Our next milestone is going to be on Tuesday and it will be when we reach November and end our 2nd of 3 counts. WOAH! November. The best month, overall, of the entire year. And with it being Thursday folks the new thing (dare I say most popular segment in this thread) “Thanksgiving Thought Thursday” can be found right below this line!

The most underrated (not talked about) moment of the year is putting the turkey in the oven on Thanksgiving morning.

The reason I make that “Thanksgiving Thought Thursday” is because really we talk about the food, football, parade etc. But it really hits me when we put the turkey in the oven. It’s such a small symbolic moment but it just seems to really be the official kickoff of the holiday season and I think there’s nothing more exciting than preparing for Thanksgiving dinner in the entire year on the calendar. What do you think about today’s Thanksgiving Thought Thursday?

If we have a large turkey, we have to set an early alarm to get up and prep the bird and put it in the oven. Then we go back to bed for more sleep. But yes, it is a very significant moment (if you want to eat turkey) and an annual tradition of sorts. And when we finally wake up, the house smells like Thanksgiving. **Be still my heart** I'm getting excited just typing this.

I have never really thought about the power in the moment you put the turkey in, but yes, I agree that it is special. Unless we have a family member doing shift work, we always eat at 2:00. That way I don't have to get up at four or five a.m. and dinner is done and cleaned up in time to have a relaxing evening. I love the quiet of turning on the oven and stuffing the turkey and slipping it in the oven. It really is a MOMENT.

Funny story, when I was growing up, my mom cooked the neck to add chop and add to the dressing. I didn't know people actually ate it. Well, for some reason, it was one of Dave's favorite things. It would always get done about two to three hours after putting the bird in the oven and when I took the neck out for him, that is when he thought it was Thanksgiving.

Happy last Tom Turkey Day of the year.

Isn't it funny how a smell, sound, or task can set off so many wonderful memories.

My mother grew up very poor. Her father died when she was only two and my grandmother had to go to work to support the five kids. I think the relatives provided their turkey on Thanksgiving but my mother never wasted anything. Any edible part was eaten. They loved Springtime when the sap was flowing from the maple trees and there was still snow on the ground. They gathered fresh snow and tapped a tree, letting the sap flow onto their snow for a tasty treat. Once one of the uncles made syrup, they ate syrup sandwiches. It was rare that they had much milk or cream but, when they did, they made homemade maple ice cream with walnuts.

If I cook one this year I will be sure to note the moment and appreciate it!

We have now completed two full years of celebrating Tom Turkey Day.
This makes my heart so happy. View attachment 99783

Happy Tom Turkey Day, Rich! You came up with a great idea for here. I think the forums, and our life in general, is made better by having "extra" special days.

Happy Tom Turkey Day to all. I celebrate Tom Turkey day today, by watching Football this evening. I think that's about the most Thanksgiving-y thing that we can do!

Have a great evening to all!

It's like once that turkey goes in the oven the holiday season is here!

It's the people here that make my life better. I remember a time when I thought forums were dumb. And I think I was right about some of them out there. But this one here is special. Very special because of the people.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 27
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 4

Happy Halloween TGIF! Today folks we have 27 days remaining until Thanksgiving and 4 days to go until November. Our next milestone won’t happen until after Halloween so don’t worry but believe it or not our next milestone will be the end of our 2nd countdown as we reach the Arrival Of November. Our 11-month wait will end on Halloween night. And we’ll celebrate on Tuesday here the best month overall of the entire year arriving. We are here in our Awesome Autumn still in the heart of it really. And we move along here with turkey thoughts slowly creeping up. And they will continue to for the next few weeks of course. Few weeks? My goodness. I thought we had months and months left? That must have been during our “Stress-Free Spring”. And even in our “Summer Sweatfest” but in the “Awesome Autumn” you start to get closer to the big time of year. And here we are almost 2 full months into The Bers. What a ride it’s been and yet the most amazing days still ahead of us. Anyway, I’m hoping you’ve all had a good week. As I’ve said if you have any more suggestions on how to make this thread better please feel free. But I think CW with his video posts on Thursdays on top of Thanksgiving Thought Thursday, Weekly Count Mondays, Picture Tuesday, Poll Wednesday maybe Friday will be our laid back day of the week? Or maybe we’ll come up with 1 more concept before the end of this thread. We’ll see. Now have a great Friday my turkey friends. Keep it real. Enjoy your day. Have a great Halloween TGIF!

I remember for me, I started feeling the "pull" of Thanksgiving, right when the "Sweatfest" here started. That's usually a time when I just retreat into my thoughts of Fall and Christmas to get me through the hot horrible days. I sure hope this year Thanksgiving can be on the chilly side. It just doesn't feel right when it is 80 degrees on Thanksgiving day.

Have a great Friday! The Halloweekend is here!

I'm with you 100%!! October, November and December need to be chilly!! But, I admit, come January 2nd I want the weather to be in the 70s and I'm ready to begin working in the gardens.

I'm hoping for a nice cool Thanksgiving also. Highs in the mid to low 40s would be great.
