DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 90
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 63
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 2

Happy Next To Last Day Of August! Today folks we move along and see that we have 90 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 63 days to go until November, and 2 days left until The Bers. Our next milestone is Sunday and I’m not even telling you what it is because you know it is quite honestly friends the most significant date on the calendar. Think about that. We move along in the last couple of days of our Summer Sweatfest with our Fun Fact Friday below.

The most popular drinks to toast with on Thanksgiving are wine, beer and whiskey (in order of popularity).

Well I’m not surprised with today’s fun fact but I don’t drink so I do not fit into helping that fact be true. Normally on Thanksgiving I have pepsi. That’s the only soda I really care much for. And of course, my iced coffee is a must. But I hope everyone enjoyed this week of topics. Guess what? This is the FINAL Weekday of the Non Bers of the entire year. Think about that. And the final topic here in this thread in a Non-Bers day EVER (cause we’ll be into the new thread by the time we’re not in The Bers again). Have a great Next To Last Day Of August!
I am surprised that the most frequent drinks are alcoholic. I would have expected spiced cider or even eggnog.

My favorite drink on Thanksgiving is a cold glass of milk.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 89
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 62
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 1

Happy August Finale! Today folks we have 89 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 62 days left until November, and 1 day to go until The Bers. Our next milestone is tomorrow folks. It’s not something I even have to tell you but in case you want me to say it THE BERS BEGIN TOMORROW. We reach the Arrival of September. Unreal. We move along in the FINAL DAY of our Summer Sweatfest. And tomorrow we begin our Awesome Autumn. Of course, officially it will be summer for another 3 weeks or so but the sweating should calm down in September. I felt it even calmed down in August a bit. July was rough. Hot and Humid almost every single day. But here we are in our Quiet Weekend Period my friends and Part 1 is today in the Non-Bers part of the year. Isn’t that kind of funny how we split this weekend with today being Non-Bers and tomorrow being Bers? It’s like going to bed and waking up and bam it’s Christmas! Pretty awesome. Turkey friends for us in this thread I think next week is going to be referred to here as “Transition Week” and the following week will be “Bonus Week.” As I’ve said normally we have 10 weeks from the week after Labor Day till the week before Thanksgiving but this year we get 11. Of course, overall our Bers will be the same amount of days (122). Turkey friends have a great day. Farewell to the Non Bers part of the year. Have a great August Finale!

I desperately need a Transition Week and next week is the perfect time and I like the idea that the Bonus Week of having 11 weeks will be the week after. Some of the things I need to do during Transition Week is to give the pantry a thorough cleaning and re-organizaion and even though it is too early to start rotating clothes closets for Fall I can definitely start retiring "hot weather" clothes after the next wearing and washing. That way I can make room for Halloween candy and some of the earliest shelf stable staples for Thanksgiving! Can you believe it?!? It is almost here!

It's the last day for three counts. Tomorrow we will only have two. That gives me chill bumps. I desperately long for this time of year and it is finally arriving. Even though Thanksgiving will be 88 days away tomorrow, it would be a great day to start planning and dreaming.

I've always thought of next week as the Transition Week! Back to work, school, football and The Bers!

The good thing is we have so much amazing fun stuff we love from now till Thanksgiving!

That is enough transition without anything extra. School starts back up here by mid-August, in fact the high school started with students on the 12th and last night was the first varsity football game so by Labor Day I am usually settled back in to the routine but it still feels like it is the second end of summer-- the first being back to school, and the third being, well, you know the first day of Fall!

One year I made a non-alcoholic wassail. People loved it. I don't drink but I had some for the guests. Beer, wine, brandy, and bourbon. I also made bread pudding with Jack Daniels in the topping. My brother offered to take all the booze off my hands after the season ended. LOL

When I was a kid, I was an avid football fan. I read the sports section of the daily news with my father every day before he left for work. By the time I was in grade school, I knew just about every player in the NFL. I took one of my father's T-shirts and made myself a jersey with Y. A. Tittle, No. 14 on the back. I don't know how many of you are old enough to remember him, but he played for the Giants in the early 60s.

When I got to high school I was betting on pro football games with my Dad. We had a runner who connected with another guy in Albany (2 hours away from my upstate NY home) and he would bring tickets with all the spreads on them. I won more often than I lost. My father put up the money and we both played two tickets each week. He used to have his friends in to hear me recite all the coaches' names, draft picks, who was injured and everything else about most of the teams. I was like his pet monkey doing tricks for his buddies. After my Dad died in 1988, football didn't have the same spark for me. I missed watching games with him. By then he and my Mom moved to Florida to be near me. We had some good years before he died.

Back home, in the heart of the Adirondacks, we only got two channels: CBS and ABC. We could only pick up NBC when certain weather conditions lined up. I would often be on the roof adjusting the antenna to get a better signal.

When my Pops moved to Florida, he was blown away that I had cable and he could watch sports 24/7. Fortunately, they had more than one TV, but he would have a radio next to him on the couch and be listening to one game while watching another.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 88
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 61

Happy September Arrives! Today folks we have 88 days remaining until Thanksgiving and 61 days to go until The Bers. Huh? Did I miss something? No I didn’t. We no longer have 3 counts in this thread. We are down to two and that is because today’s milestone is the Arrival of September and that means we have Arrived at The Bers. Also, we have arrived in our AWESOME AUTUMN! And this lasts nearly 3 full months friends. Talk about a long stretch. This is going to be an amazing season. Our next milestone will be the Final Fifty till November which will happen in 11 days. But we don’t want to think past today when thinking about The Bers. Each day is precious in general and The Bers just emphasizes that even more. We are in the 2nd half of our Quiet Weekend Period. You might ask wait aren’t we having a 3-day weekend? This thread doesn’t have 3-day weekends. We have our 5 big topics every week. But turkey friends before we move forward let’s enjoy this day today. Coming up will be “Transition Week” and you’ll hear about it all week long in the Hang Out and in the Thanksgiving Thread as well. Everything will transition coming up friends. Get ready. It’s going to be like a roller coaster of fun as we now enter The Bers and return home. Have a great September Arrives!

This is honestly the first time in all the years being here at MMC (5 going on six, IIRC), that I have thought of August 31st being akin to New Year's Eve, even with JOL Day going on in the background and knowing that THE BERS is up next. It is a wonderful tradition that I want to mentally keep going! Have a great day!
