My experience is that most people love mac and cheese. Sometimes when I say I don't like it much, people look at me like I have three eyes--so I think you are safe.
My brother detested Mac and cheese until he tasted my lobster Mac and cheese. It’s made with heavy cream, aged cheddar from The Cheese Brothers, lobster meat, and sour cream. It was a trial and error endeavor but using whole wheat pasta and spices gave it the depth it needed to win him over.

C - D

I like to have our dinner ready by 4 but some years we have to adjust for work schedules or movie schedules. Thanksgiving has been a day for a few family members to go to see a new release movie as its's only time they can all do it together.

Some years we have had nice chilly weather and other years it's been so warm we had to open windows. I much prefer chilly weather for Thanskgiving.

All this talk about food got me thinking about Thanksgivings past. Was there a particular dish someone brought that you absolutely couldn't stomach it?

For nearly a decade I had Thanksgiving with a family with whom I was close. I was like a daughter to them. There was an "Aunt Dottie" who was a very nice, friendly lady and she was usually the life of the party......but that gal couldn't cook if her life depended on it.

Every year we tried to get her to bring the wine and she did EXCEPT she always brought her "creation" called heavenly hash. It was jello, marshmallows, pineapple, with cool whip. First, I can't stand the taste of cool whip. It tastes like plastic to me. But all that stuff together made it hard for anybody to eat. I always thought, "why ruin a good pineapple?"

I also don't like people tampering with a good sweet potato. I love them and all they need is a bit of butter to bring out the taste. All this brown sugar and other stuff people throw on them makes the taste of the potato fade.....

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 105
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 78
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 17

Happy Mid-August! Today folks we move along and see we have 105 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 78 days left until November, and 17 days to go until The Bers. We move along in our Summer Sweatfest with our next milestone being in 5 days’ time when we reach the 100-Day Marker till Thanksgiving. It’s time for our Thanksgiving Thought Thursday below so let’s get to it!

I’m done with turkey for the next 100+ days. We had it last weekend and some leftovers early this week. But I realized that I can’t have it on a regular basis. Some foods are just meant for special times of the year and to me I think turkey might be one of those foods.

Certain foods I live on all the time like trail mix and salad. But other foods I get tired of very quickly. I think turkey can fit that sometimes which is why during the year I rarely have it. But having it occasionally and of course on the big day makes it extra special when you have it. It was delicious and the leftovers were good too but by the 3rd day of having it I was ready to move on to some other foods. And then someday way in the future we’ll get back to turkey time. Turkey friends enjoy this day today. Have a great Mid-August!

Lobster Mac&Cheese is one of my favorites. Holly has a good recipe for it but she hasn't made it in several years. Maybe this is the year that it makes a comeback for our holiday lineup!

It's the exact reason why I try and not ask too much for things like Ham, Cream Corn, or Green Bean Casserole throughout the year. All of those together are fine on Rudolph Day, or Mini Thanksgiving, but they are in my mind as a Christmas Food, so if I had them lots, I worry that they wouldn't be as special.

Have a great day!

Is it just me, or has this week gone really slow? The Preview was flying by, but suddenly it felt like it got stuck. No complaints, just an observation.

My Dad's family put canned oysters in the mac and cheese for Thanksgiving dinner. It was a smelly mess. Your lobster mac sounds pretty yummy, though.

Some foods are "seasonal" to me. Like, I know barbecue is good at any time during the year, but it's something I only cook/eat in the spring and summer. Gumbo and chicken and dumplings are winter foods. Mac and cheese (the homemade version) is for holidays or family gatherings.

Turkey...well I do eat turkey year-round, but it's usually the deli variety, or it's smoked turkey sandwiches.

I have to admit I eat turkey all year round. I love it. Last year I ordered a Turducken and will do that again this Thanksgiving. It was marvelous and the gravy that came out of it was rich and yummy. It was a big hit. Just to be safe, I cooked a turkey breast and will do that again since I send leftovers home with guests.

I don't cook desserts until the holiday. My dessert is fruit most of the year and I avoid processed food. The holidays are an exception. I make cheesecakes, pies, and cookies. This year is weird with Thanksgiving so late, so I may have a Halloween dinner.

This week has dragged on for me too. August is my worst month of the year. It is both Dave's birthday and our wedding anniversary, and it is extra hard not to let missing him take over my emotions.
