Snake, I literally had this conversation with Doc a couple of days ago. We have two Thanksgivings each year...and it is hard. I told her we should have one Thanksgiving the Saturday or Sunday before Thanksgiving and then then have one on Thanksgiving day. I think my family would buy into it. I don't know if Doc's family would...but we could find a way to make it work. I also thought about suggesting the same thing for Christmas. Everyone's schedule is so busy around Christmas and we try to fit so much into Christmas Eve and Christmas Day...change that and have one a few days before. This sounds crazy, but I'd honestly like to make one change with Thanksgiving, and that is doing it in "waves", so that there is not so much running around that day. One or two houses max, instead of the normal 4 + that it seems like.
I'm thinking of hopefully doing one "set" of Thanksgivings maybe the weekend before Thanksgiving, and then doing "Actual Thanksgiving" on Thanksgiving day for everyone else.
I haven't talked to Holly about it yet, but I'm sure she would agree because things are going to be a little "tougher" this year.
Other than that though, even our "Sicksgiving" where Holly's ENTIRE family was sick, was fun, because that was the only place we went that day, It was very relaxing honestly.
Happy New Year to all!
I'm going with B.DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 330
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 304
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 243
Happy New Year! Today folks we move along and see that we have 330 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 304 days left until November, and 243 days to go until The Bers. We have reached our milestone folks with a brand new month arriving today (January) and also a brand new year. Now I can say this friends THIS Thanksgiving and yes we will not leave this calendar year without having Thanksgiving Day. We begin our Winter Wonderland portion of this thread and it’s a long one my friends so get comfy and get ready to hibernate as much as you can through winter’s worst that it can throw at us. Today is Wednesday so it’s time for our Weekly Wednesday Poll. The first one of the year of course!
What’s one change you’d like to make for Thanksgiving this year?
Eat a different time (earlier or later) Have different family members attend/not attend Make different side dishes this year than usual Watch more of the parade/football during Thanksgiving Day Ok. I’d like to eat a little earlier. I’m ok with the sides being the same. And I always will like to watch more parade/football than I did last year. But I’m going with B and it’s a weird answer but I want my brother NOT to come to Thanksgiving this year. There. I said it. The reason is because he will only come Thanksgiving or Christmas and as much as I love Thanksgiving as you all know I really want him here for Christmas which is what he normally does. What about you? Turkey friends dare I ask if you’re having a New Year’s turkey? Have a great New Year!
The more the merrier!I’m going with B on this one. I would love to have all my kids home for Thanksgiving again, not just one.
Big group!I'm going with B.
My brother, his girlfriend (I look at her as his wife), and her girls live 5 hours away. My brother hasn't been to a Thanksgiving in 7 or 8 years. I would love for them to attend. Don't get me wrong...I love the 6 people coming that usually come...but I love the big family gathering. Love it. When my wife's family gets together, there might be as many as 16 people here.
That is not fun, I hope they aren't too tardy.I cannot think of much I would change that is on the list. What I would change is having everyone be on TIME. I have one family who comes that no matter what time dinner is set for, they are always late.

They definitely do not look as good as the picture when you first take them out of the bag. In fact, you will probably wonder if you made a mistake when you first see the thing. But, after 1.5 hours in the oven at 300 degrees, and then another 15 minutes under the broiler, you’ve got golden-brown Cajun goodness that looks a lot closer to that picture, even if not perfect.Happy New Year's Eve!
I post this in honor of our friend and scholar @The_Escalation and his wonderful cajun style turkey. I have always always wanted to try one. Perhaps 2025 at some point it will finally become a reality!

He will have to tell us if they look as good as they do in the picture! I'm sure even if they don't, they taste as good!

And as for the taste, it’s definitely my favorite turkey I’ve ever eaten. I can only imagine that a deep-fried turkey would best it (I’ve never had deep-fried turkey before), or perhaps a smoked turkey would also. I’ve found that strategically placing pats of butter on the turkey before putting it in the oven helps keep it moist.
Unfortunately, I have some sad news. All of the Popeye’s locations here in my neck of the woods (Southeast Texas) have closed. Apparently, the franchisee either couldn’t afford to pay his employees, or he just flat out didn’t pay them, and just before Christmas all of the Popeye’s locations here shut their doors. I’m not sure where the closest open Popeye’s is now or if someone else will step in and reopen our local ones someday, but I can tell you I’m definitely not driving to Houston or Louisiana for a turkey, so this may very well be the end of the Cajun Turkey tradition for the Escalation household.
Good advice!Oh my god, this is horrible! Maybe you can find a Cajun style recipe or something to continue your tradition. Home made might be better!
The same thing happened here. The franchisee went bankrupt and 13 Popeyes in middle Georgia closed without warning last fall. I couldn't tell you where the closest one is now. We quit visiting Popeyes years ago because this franchisee allowed the worst customer service I've ever seen. I'm surprised they stayed open as long as they did.Unfortunately, I have some sad news. Maybe a lot of people gain nothing so it averages out to 1!?I'm really surprised at that stat. I thought I read somewhere years ago that a typical person puts on like 5 pounds during the entire holiday season. 1 pound? I don't feel so bad about eating that third plate (or fourth!) on Thanksgiving!
Have a great Friday!
