Wow! I know I've been present most days in this countdown. But Thanksgiving is really sneaking up on me this year. I guess I have had a lot going on the last several weeks, because a lot of things seem to be sneaking up on me or passing me by. It's time to get in the moment and enjoy the next two weeks.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 13

Happ November TGIF! Today folks we move along and see that we have 13 days remaining until Thanksgiving. We move along in our Awesome Autumn with our next milestone arriving on Monday with the Home Stretch till Thanksgiving. It’s Friday folks so time for our Fun Fact Friday below!

Thanksgiving is the #1 day for cooking fires.
Fire experts remind families that Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for kitchen accidents. Always keep an eye on the stove, and if you’re frying a turkey, make sure it’s done safely outdoors.

If I was the one cooking, I could see that happening. Not the best cook here but fortunately I have family who is good at cooking and likes to do it. But I do help. But can you imagine starting a fire on Thanksgiving in your home? Has anyone done that before? I guess it makes sense with so many people cooking that day that it would be a big day for fires. Must be tough for those people wanting to eat their turkey dinners and then a big fire breaks out and having to call the fire department to come over. And the turkey could be all burnt and not edible. Turkey friends the best to you today. Have a great November TGIF!

Every year around this time, I always watch the videos put out by the fire department that shows the people putting a full frozen turkey down in a pot of hot oil. I know it's not supposed to be funny, but I always laugh. year after year.

TGIF! Heck, here you go because I'm feeling so generous:

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 12

Happy Mid-November! Today folks we move along and see that we have 12 days remaining until Thanksgiving. We move along in our Awesome Autumn with our final milestone arriving the day after tomorrow. That’s right folks, on Monday we’ll reach the Home Stretch till Thanksgiving. That will be the final milestone to ever happen in this thread. It’s Saturday folks so time for the first half of our Quiet Weekend Period. Who’s ready for it? To be honest, it’s a busy weekend here but mostly fun stuff so that’s a good thing. The calm before the storm comes next week. And it culminates with Coach’s Weekend next weekend. Let’s just focus on this weekend for now though. If you want to read about the Calm Before the Storm, then check out the Hang Out tomorrow for a preview of it and why we started calling it that the last couple of years more. I think it deserves that name though. Turkey friends I hope you are doing well and enjoying your weekend. I wish you all the best this weekend with your family and friends. Have fun but also get done what you need to do. And enjoy the quiet times too. The best to you my turkey friends moving along here into a great and wonderful Saturday. Have a great Mid-November!

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 11

Happy 2nd Half Of November! Today folks we move along and see that we have 11 days remaining until Thanksgiving. We move along in our Awesome Autumn with our next milestone arriving tomorrow on Monday. It will be the Home Stretch till Thanksgiving and will be our final milestone. It’s Sunday folks so time for the 2nd half of our Quiet Weekend Period. I hope you are all enjoying your weekend. To be honest, my weekends are not quiet too much right now. But over that long Thanksgiving Break I will have plenty of time around home base to unwind and sort of get the Holiday Season started. But it should be a fun day as we visit the city this afternoon for a virtual reality thing, we’ve done a few times before. Today’s is about dinosaurs. It’s really cool and should be fun. Turkey friends I hope that your week has gone well so far. And today is the 2nd half of your weekend so let us make sure that we make the most of it my friends. Ok? I hope you will enjoy your day my turkey friends and that you enjoy it to the utmost. We are approaching a very special time that is fast approaching. I’m getting excited about it as I know all of you are as well. The best to you all today this Sunday. Enjoy your day my friends. Have a great 2nd Half Of November!

I've never had fried turkey, but I don't like fried food. I love the smell of a turkey roasting in the oven. I put apples and oranges in mine with a spice mixture/olive oil/butter under the skin. By the time it's done, I'm salivating. I've brined mine several times and it's also good.

I think it's the smells that activate my happy holiday feelings. When I was very young, my mother always got our Christmas decorations out on the night of Thanksgiving. The first thing we put up was the nativity. Hers was from her grandmother and smelled like straw. A few days before Thanksgiving, we'd go into the woods and cut down three trees. Two were for our outdoor nativity scene with some of the branches used for our indoor one. The best was the tree for the living room. I wish I had pictures of it. My mother and I would stay up very late getting all the candles down from the third floor storage. She put blue electric candles in all the windows and they were so beautiful. My grandmother would order all kinds of confections from NYC and we'd make "giving baskets" for people she knew in our village who would appreciate something special. We put breads, nuts, candy, fudge, and some fancy candy from the city. We'd deliver it on the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Every time I smell a turkey roasting, those memories come back.

I've been baking all day. I also need to make more pumpkin bread for the food pantry. People seem to really appreciate things that are made from scratch with love.

Don't forget to stop, take a deep breath, give thanks, and rest up. It's coming up fast.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 10

Happy Anticipation Week! Today folks we move along and see that we have 10 days remaining until Thanksgiving. We move along in our Awesome Autumn on this very special Milestone Day. Today we reach the Home Stretch till Thanksgiving. And this is our FINAL Milestone ever in this thread. Unreal my friends but we’re here truly and there is no way to look around it. It’s Monday folks so time for our Weekly Countdown till Thanksgiving Week. And I have to say it but this is about as low as it can get as we are down to 1 week. Let me count that again. 1. Ok it didn’t take long to count that. Turkey friends I hope you are doing well here on this Monday. And I hope your last normal week of the year begins good. It’s going to be another busy week for me but that’s ok because I am enjoying each day as much as I can and taking the time to slow things down when I can too. Those daily trips to the park with Damian help a lot with that. And I am looking forward to Thanksgiving like all of you are at this point, but I really want to take it this week and try to enjoy the slow build we’ll start to feel. It’s going to be such a wonderful feeling. The best to you my turkey friends. I wish you all well here this Monday. Be safe and enjoy your day. Have a great Anticipation Week!

I will be stopping at the grocery store after work to get the last of the Thanksgiving items we need for next week. We are definitely in the Homestretch now.

Happy Milestone Day! I can't believe we are finally here, at "The week before" Thanksgiving. It's going to be a special one.

This week is going to be wet and chilly here. I think we will lose the last of the leaves and then I can finally clean up the yards for the "final" time this year and start waiting for spring so mowing can begin again. There's very little to do in the yard over the winter except for clean up sticks when they fall and clean up dog doo.

And believe it or not, sometimes being out in the back yard, when all the trees are barren and everything is cleaned up, it feels a little melancholy. The same feeling comes each year when I've had the very last mowing/mulching session.

Have a great day!
