Same ... It was just me and my parents for Thanksgiving. We didn't go anywhere and no one came over. I do recall my mom making a big deal of shopping for the cart full of food for Thanksgivings, getting up at 5/6 am so we could eat by 1 or 2 pm and enough food to feed a small army. The whole table would be covered. This is probably why I love a house full on Thanksgiving and I keep my fall decorations up until the day after Thanksgiving. It’s funny because when I was a kid, I didn’t appreciate Thanksgiving at all. Or at least not much. My parents, God bless them, didn’t really frame it as a big deal. We didn’t have big family get-togethers for Thanksgiving, so it was usually just the four of us, and I saw it as Mom making a bigger dinner than usual and Dad watching football the rest of the day.
As an adult, I’ve been able to see what a truly special holiday it is, and I’ve taught that to my kids. Hopefully they grow into adulthood with much better perceptions of Thanksgiving than I first had.
