It’s funny because when I was a kid, I didn’t appreciate Thanksgiving at all. Or at least not much. My parents, God bless them, didn’t really frame it as a big deal. We didn’t have big family get-togethers for Thanksgiving, so it was usually just the four of us, and I saw it as Mom making a bigger dinner than usual and Dad watching football the rest of the day.

As an adult, I’ve been able to see what a truly special holiday it is, and I’ve taught that to my kids. Hopefully they grow into adulthood with much better perceptions of Thanksgiving than I first had.
Same ... It was just me and my parents for Thanksgiving. We didn't go anywhere and no one came over. I do recall my mom making a big deal of shopping for the cart full of food for Thanksgivings, getting up at 5/6 am so we could eat by 1 or 2 pm and enough food to feed a small army. The whole table would be covered. This is probably why I love a house full on Thanksgiving and I keep my fall decorations up until the day after Thanksgiving.

It is B for me too. The afterglow of the holidays can get me through a few weeks and all the “new” and looking ahead makes me happy!

Would it be the alcohol that helps preserve it? I never remember one going bad either.

C, February, for me. It's closer to the warmer weather.

I think my parents' recipe called for a couple ounces of homemade wine in each cake---they weren't very boozy.

They did have plenty of candied fruit, chopped nuts, citron, currants, and so forth, with some of the fruit on top for decoration (and a bit of egg white, which came out looking like morning frost).

They didn't make wholesale amounts, as a recall. Maybe three or four cakes, but baked in springform pans, so they were fairly large instead of being little loaves, like you see in catalogues.
My grandmas were in loaf pans and got transfered to aluminum pans and were put in the kitchen closet to sit and soak up the goodness..lol. I didnt like them with all the booze in them myself. She made like 20 a year for family members.

Good luck and Godspeed, my friend. Give 'em heck!
I got to quick time with Sammy Swindell tonite. My life is now complete. He even come over to visit and keep the crew chief out of my hair. My boys were video calling and they saw him.."Dad is that Sammy talking!!?" They wanted autographs and I didnt really have much for him to sign. I went next door and got 2 Kyle Larson shirts for Sammy to sign..lol!

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 315
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 290
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 229

Happy Mid-January! Today folks we move along and see that we have 315 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 290 days left until November and 229 days to go until The Bers. We move along in our Winter Wonderland with our next milestone arriving in 1 week. It will be Tom Turkey Day #2. It’s Thursday folks so time for our Weekly Countdown till Thanksgiving. It stands at 45 weeks. We are now halfway from 50 to 40 folks. That’s big time if you ask me. Of course, staying safely in the 40s through a good bulk of the winter is a nice thing. I heard this guy I listen to on the radio talking about how sad it is to take down Christmas lights but at the same point leaving it up too long is not good. I kind of got his point. He loves Christmas like we do as he always talks about Christmas Eve dinner and the 7 fishes. And he talks about all his traditions he has. And he talked about putting up his Christmas tree yesterday and how much he loves it. I love hearing those people like us out there. But you never hear many people talk about Thanksgiving as much huh? Very interesting. But I think we are more of a unique niche than Christmas is. The best to you my turkey friends as we move along into another day here. Gobble Gobble. Have a great Mid-January!

It’s okay that other people don’t talk about Thanksgiving as much. That just makes our little group here more special. We can talk about Thanksgiving for the entire year which makes up for everyone else not talking about it.

I saw a video tonight of Sammy going end over end down the straightaway. He is one tough old dude. Stewart and Larson were saying how the Chili Bowl is harder and means more to them than the Daytona 500. That's saying something. 404 racers competing for one Driller. That's incredible!
