Good Morning and Happy Wednesday!

Yay -- we're at the halfway point so far! Just a few more days to go to the weekend! cheesy

I've been reading the posts regarding the ADD/ADHD children...I, too, feel that some people are quick to want to give drugs. Of course, everyone has to make that choice for their own circumstances, but I've heard quite often that diet change and home activities can make a big difference in getting a more calm, balanced situation.
Food is so important to our health. It's so sad to see how many people have health issues that are related to what they're eating. I think it should be a crime for companies to put the preservatives, conservatives and all the other "non-food" ingredients (read "junk"/"poison") in their products.
Oh, don't get me started. This is my hot button. I think I'll stop now.

I wish you all the best today and every day! :rudolph:

Good Ash Wednesday to all or Happy Hump Day!! :-D Crown - I'm feeling like meeting you at the pines with TEA today!!! (after a few cups of coffee of course...) I bet the view is a snow covered one!!

Have a great day!!!

Great picture Christmasstar. Not sure if I missed the thread but what were you doing on Breakfast TV? Did they have you on for your beautiful cakes?cheesy
Thank you!
I was part of the audience on Monday for their first ever celebration of Family Day. (family day is a fairly new holiday here in Ontario, we all get the day off to be with our families...at least that is the idea of it!)
There were about a dozen families there that day and we all walked out with some really nice prizes.
No, it was not for my cakes...but some day!cheesy

Good Morning MMC!

Snowed just enough to see it snowed last night.

Does not feel like Wednesday already, most likely because Monday was a holiday here. cheesy

Hope you all have a fantastic day!!

Did someone say Shispering Pines...coffee or tea.....today! I'm in! Today will actually be the earliest I've been home in two weeks. Should be done at work by 6 so I'm pretty excited.

See everyone there this afternoon!

ADD/ADHD issue weigh-in......

As a principal, I would throw a fit if one of my teachers ever diagnosed a kid or even made the statement "they need medicine" to a parent for various reasons....

1. We are teachers, not doctors. Doctors don't come teach Spanish, we don't discuss health issues.

2. When a teacher makes that statement, the burden and expense of having the medical examination done becomes that of the school.

While some kids are a little more wild (nothing wrong with that) than others, most of the time it comes down to teacher classroom management. If there is structure and procedures in place, then it usually is a good environment.

On the other hand, my best friend has a niece who can't function or focus without having her meds. She isn't running around the room tearing down the curtains, but she does have a problem focusing. So in some cases, it is true.

ADD/ADHD is, in my humble opinion, the most over-diagnosed health issue out there right now. That's frustrating for me as a teacher and a principal.

Thank you!

That's really neat that you got to be part of the audience. They all look like a fun group of people. And I think it's nice that Canada is observing a day for family. You will have to approach this station about your cakes sometime. Then word can get out and before you know it maybe you will get the chance to go on one of those food network type shows. Wouldn't that be fun?!

Good Morning Everyone!

Got d/d up and at em' and will make her breakfast shortly. A mild morning here with a little wind outside. I hope you all have a wonderful day. It will be another busy day for me. Always lots to do that's for sure!

My son was diagnosed with ADD when he was a child and I did put him on medication and regretted it big time! He was a zombie, couldn't eat or sleep. He was thin to begin with and after being on meds for awhile he lost too much weight. It was a low dose too. I took him off of it and never again put him back on it. I think it was just too hard on his health.

In my situation the teacher suggested he get tested for ADD. No mention of medication but they ran test on him at school then from there I took the results to the doctor. They were quick to put him on medication without any discussion of any other alternatives. This was over 10 years ago and maybe the way they test and treatment is different than it was then.

All children are different and medication may work for some but not for all.

Sugarplumfairy, I think you made the right decision.

Oh, indeed it is, Holiday!
Just like so much of the rest of the country, the Shispering Pines is under a blanket of snow.
Not to worry, however, since areas that need shoveling have been cleared and they are open for business, including the ski slopes behind the lodge.
(No need to bring coffee, however, since Carl supplies that - um - if you don't mind some strange blends which normally only appeal to our wonderful but sadly misguided Binger.)

Good Morning, Friends.

Need I again say it's cold here?
We stand right at 32 with calm winds and lots of sun.
At long last, we are supposed to actually get to 50 degrees by this weekend.
That will be a welcomed change!

The middle-of-the-week count:
Days to the Season: 269
Days to Christmas Day:311
Day after tomorrow = single digits to the 300-day Christmas Day mark!
(We are speeding towards Christmas Season 2010 quick as a Vancouver snowboarder!)

Have a Wonderful Wednesday, Everyone!
See you at the 'Pines!

Good morning, everyone!

I awoke today in a bit of a dilemma. Kim and I were planning to go home today at 4, but our ride no longer has room for us. Apparently, he has to drive his girlfriend's parents as they made a last minute decision to leave with him. Our only way to go home is to take the bus, which will be an overnight trip and cost about $50 more each - we're both students. Neither of us real feel up to taking the bus, especially if we have to take it back. Also, I currently have a constant headache and may possibly be getting sick. Bad luck on my part.

Really, I don't know what to do. It would be nice to go home and see family as I will not be home again until August, but all these signs are really stacking up against us going. Tough call.

With that said, have a great Wednesday, everyone! The weekend is on the downside following lunch!

I hope you get feeling better and have a safe trip if you decide to go home.

Good afternoon everyone!!!!!!!!!! I just got home from work and decided to check in before I kick back and watch the olympics. We are currently 12 degrees below are average high here in indiana for this time of year and 5 inches above our average snowfall for the year. The extended forecast doesn't look much better with temperatures staying in the low 20's and 2 more snow storms scheduled to hit us in the next 5 days. The county I live in has done a pretty good job of keeping the main roads clear around us but some of the more rural counties are having a tough time. Unfourtanely that is where the majority of the work I have left is at. I have two more weeks to get them done so I hope the snow stops after next week. That way I can get out in the country and work. It is winters like this when I miss having my old 4 wheel drive truck. I hope everyone has a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My take on the ADD thing is that medication should always be the last thing you try. It always depends on the situation though and what you feel is right.
