Wow - miss a day and a half - I was 22 pages down. LOL
Had a strange occurrence at the drug store. Standing in line waiting my turn, my phone rang. I have most everyone's ring tones set for specific tones. Very rarely does my phone ring the generic 'any caller,' tone, so I had completely forgotten it was still set for Carol of the Bells. It goes off. It wasn't ridiculously loud or anything, but I was waiting in line, I was next and I don't like to pick up the phone if I'm about to have any sort of exchange with a clerk/teller/waitress. I think it's rude, so I don't do it.
I reached into my back pocket and hit the power button to silence the phone. I didn't even take it out. The man standing next to me makes this exasperated sighing, disgusted noise, looks directly at me and says, "You know - people like you are what's wrong with this world. It's one d*** day out of the year, it's over now. Get over it!"
I said, "Wow.... that was really impressive!"
He looked confused, gave me a nasty look and asked defensively, "What was?!"
I said, "I have never witnessed someone ACTUALLY channel Ebeneezer Scrooge. Man, it was like you reached into Charles Dickens' mind and became possessed by the character. And the masterful skill of being able to make every small child across the globe spontaneously cry a solitary tear of sorrow. Man.... what a gift!"
I could not have timed this more perfectly if I had paid an actor to walk through and do this - a little girl is walking with her mother, hand in hand, sniffling and making that breathy noise they do when they're really crying. No clue if this woman had just scolded her or what, but they were walking out behind us, the girl looked up at him with tears streaming down her little cheeks.
He glared back at me, snatched his bag from the counter and muttered, "Christmas freaks!"
The cashier bursts out laughing when he left and said, "I do not know HOW that just happened with the kid, but that was the best thing EVER! I am always so sad when we have to take the Christmas aisle down and stock it with Valentines Day items. Guess I'm one of those Christmas freaks too."
I said, "I'm considering a tattoo myself."
