Very nice!! Enjoy!
Winter is a good time to curl up and watch movies =)
That's what I'd like to do today. We had about 3 inches of snow overnight and it's sunny and cold and blustery today. I'm about halfway through an afghan, so it would keep me cozy and warm while I watch movies and work on it. And I'm craving a mug of something warm ... tea or cocoa. I'm loving having an office holiday today.

Wow - miss a day and a half - I was 22 pages down. LOL

Had a strange occurrence at the drug store. Standing in line waiting my turn, my phone rang. I have most everyone's ring tones set for specific tones. Very rarely does my phone ring the generic 'any caller,' tone, so I had completely forgotten it was still set for Carol of the Bells. It goes off. It wasn't ridiculously loud or anything, but I was waiting in line, I was next and I don't like to pick up the phone if I'm about to have any sort of exchange with a clerk/teller/waitress. I think it's rude, so I don't do it.

I reached into my back pocket and hit the power button to silence the phone. I didn't even take it out. The man standing next to me makes this exasperated sighing, disgusted noise, looks directly at me and says, "You know - people like you are what's wrong with this world. It's one d*** day out of the year, it's over now. Get over it!"

I said, "Wow.... that was really impressive!"

He looked confused, gave me a nasty look and asked defensively, "What was?!"

I said, "I have never witnessed someone ACTUALLY channel Ebeneezer Scrooge. Man, it was like you reached into Charles Dickens' mind and became possessed by the character. And the masterful skill of being able to make every small child across the globe spontaneously cry a solitary tear of sorrow. Man.... what a gift!"

I could not have timed this more perfectly if I had paid an actor to walk through and do this - a little girl is walking with her mother, hand in hand, sniffling and making that breathy noise they do when they're really crying. No clue if this woman had just scolded her or what, but they were walking out behind us, the girl looked up at him with tears streaming down her little cheeks.

He glared back at me, snatched his bag from the counter and muttered, "Christmas freaks!"

The cashier bursts out laughing when he left and said, "I do not know HOW that just happened with the kid, but that was the best thing EVER! I am always so sad when we have to take the Christmas aisle down and stock it with Valentines Day items. Guess I'm one of those Christmas freaks too."

I said, "I'm considering a tattoo myself."

Love this story. Too funny!!! Awesome come back!!

I can't speak for Nevada, but I DO know that there are fireflies outside of Kansas. I grew up in Maryland, and one of my fondest memories is fireflies in the summertime. It was so magical to look out across a field or a dark stand of trees and see their lights floating around, winking and blinking. I don't see them in New England, and I miss them.

We never saw any, Sam.
And Adi and I missed them!
We sat in our backyard each evening, too. Our house was built in the open desert, so it would have been the perfect spot for them.

We saw a lot of praing mantis' though =]

We do see a lot of them in my hometown of La Crosse. My Grandpa and I used to watch them from his front prorch on summer nights, so magical.

I don't know about Nevada, but they're pretty common here in Georgia. They used to be everywhere around here when I was a kid, but pesticide use has pretty much decimated them.

I see them every summer night when I'm in the North Carolina mountains.

Thanks Brad Merry and Stacey. Very helpful. I appreciate the insight.

They are something quite magical, I have to agree there. I remember catching them in jars when I was younger. They are very common in South America, where I spent some time.

Our neighbors usually take down their lights a few days after Christmas still have theirs up. I counted 31 houses on my way home from work last night, and that's an 11 mile trip.
Wow, that's impressive!!! Hope you are still seeing some this week!

We just returned from Scene 75 and Henry's birthday celebration. He had a great time. Played 2 games of Laser Tag, we played mini bowling, and drove go-karts.
He gave my wife and I big hugs and said, "Thanks for bringing me to this awesome place!" Big smile on his face.
I'm glad he had a great birthday!!! Enjoy your day off!

Florida Storms last night:

Bud came in from work last night and said, "I heard we're supposed to get some rain and a cool front is behind it!" I said, "Great!!" That was around 8:45pm. It was still hot and humid, somewhere around 74 degrees and very muggy.

I took the dogs out for their final time out before I went to bed around midnight. Opened the door and it was pouring rain and quite cool, tremendously windy. My smallest, Cheenie, who thinks everything below 85 is positively frigid, ran out so happy to be going out, out from under the porch cover, hit the grass, made a quick 180° right back to the porch, up the steps to the door. Turned and looked at me like, "WHAT is wrong with you!! Winter has come! QUICKLY! TAKE SHELTER!" LOL

I heard Noah come in around 1am when Moose started doing his goofy bark that's just for Noah. That's my alarm for "Noah's home safe." Then I fell into a deep sleep till I heard my phone on the nightstand make some strange tone that I wasn't familiar. I opened my eyes enough to see the clock said 3:12am. I didn't even look at it. I thought it was an odd tone for an app or software update. Right back to sleep. Didn't move again till the alarm went off at 6.

When I got around to looking at my phone a bit later I saw this which was the message delivered at 3:11am from Sprint towers:

Uhm.... thank you? I guess? I mean I'm glad they send them, but it really didn't do much good since the tone was so, common. I thought, Oh WOW! Oh my gosh we are so lucky!! I went to open the back door to see if there was any damage. The temps were back up, warmer than at midnight, humidity in full effect, and still raining - this was what we woke up to outside:

And much like your snows and cold - yes everyone still left and went to work. LOL Took a few hours, but most of the waters have receded from around the house. The planting fields are still underwater, nearest the canal, which means I will NOT be walking the dogs over there. The alligators that use the canal as a migration route between lakes will be up at the edge with a possibility of being in the field. They're not huge, but big enough to harm or kill one of the dogs. Normal size for the canal is between 3 and 5 feet.

We were in the path of the storm cells causing tornadoes. The family which lost both grandparents was in Duette (the one making national news), which is about 30 minutes south of us. Our county, Polk, had a few funnels and some touch downs, but no major reported damage, just water levels. Still raining and yea-to-me, temps will continue to drop throughout the day.

Please continue prayers and positive thought for those south and west of us who did lose their homes, were injured and lost loved ones.
So glad you stayed safe! Prayers for all affected!!
