I'm hearing now that people are experiencing difficulty getting turkeys and hams. I'm so glad I started buying them so far in advance! I have TWO spiral hams, and THREE, can you believe that, THREE Turkeys!

We always do a turkey to celebrate Rudolph Day in January, and I wanted to have an extra one just in case.

We are just a week away now from starting Thanksgiving week! Exciting!
My grocery store just put out turkeys last week. I am going to get mine this week. I need to pick up a spiral ham too.

I, too, will clean the kitchen, @Rich. I like to have everything just so as we approach the big day. After about 12:00 on Monday....no one is allowed in the kitchen except me. Total lockdown....
That's right. Break out the soap, baking soda, vinegar, degreaser, disinfectant, and glass cleaner. It's time to get busy. Our kitchen isn't too bad so it shouldn't take too long. I've already pulled the fridge out and cleaned under and behind it.

My work always gives us a certificate for a ham/turkey the week before Christmas. But I'm not sure I want to wait that long to buy it. They may run out before then.
I may have to use that certificate on an Easter ham.

Well, this weekend we made the decision to cancel our big family Thanksgiving dinner at my brother's house. The COVID numbers have spiked to obscene levels in his area, and one of my sister-in-law's co-workers just got it. Moreover, her father will be staying at their house, and he is immuno-compromised, so we can't risk him getting it because it will be serious if he does.

Bummer as I was looking forward to it. We haven't seen them in over a year, but health and safety come first. Now we'll just be going to my parents' house for a small Thanksgiving lunch. My Dad was talking about trying to get one of those cajun turkeys from Popeyes. I don't know if he'll be successful, but I've heard they are delicious, so fingers crossed!

Cajun turkeys are supposed to be legit. My wife and I buy the small butterball turkey breasts all the time, they are in the frozen coolers at Walmart / Martins, etc... They have a pre-seasoned Cajun kind, i can't wait to try one.

I am a bit ahead on all of my typical week before Thanksgiving chores and with the absence of my extended family gathering that would usually be this upcoming Sunday, I am feeling a bit lost today. I hope it doesn't last long and that by Thursday or Friday the excitement starts to build and I can enjoy the entire week! I have a solid plan starting on Sunday, so maybe I need to join in and do some extra cleaning! Just visiting here is helping the day end on a brighter note-- THANKS for lending me some cheer!

OH MY GOSH. I did the same thing last Friday.

We had the same turkey recipe, too.

COUNTDOWN TO THANKSGIVING 2020: 9 DAYS

Happy Turkey Thoughts! Isn't that a fitting introduction this morning? I mean everyone in this thread has been having turkey thoughts for such a long time and now? You have to be seriously having them with where we are in the countdown. We have 9 days left until Thanksgiving. That's it. Just 9 days. We are in single digits. Our next milestone is our final destination which is THANKSGIVING DAY. I know. I know. I can't believe it either but I have to. I felt it yesterday. I felt the excitement. I started to really realize where we are. And how close we are now. It's a great feeling everyone. Make sure you take it all in today. Enjoy it and dream about what's to come next week. Have a great Turkey Thoughts!

Yep there's magic in the air now. It started brewing back in September and like a pot on the stove right now, it's ready to blow.

I went to Martin's last night to get some groceries and I have to say, all things considered, the store is doing GREAT on keeping things stocked up. Plenty of turkeys to go around. I'm glad to see that they are rationing things, hopefully it gets them through the winter and by spring time we should all be seeing a more "normal" shopping experience. What is up with the paper towels though? In the spring TP couldn't be found anywhere, and now today, TP is everywhere, and Paper Towels are scarce! I got out ahead of the game and got a case from Costco 2 weeks ago when they were still ok. If I can find another case from there, I will get one, that should be enough to get us through until the late spring!

It truly is The Most Wonderful Time of the Year! You can feel the magic in the air. People are starting to smile again. They're talking about the holidays and it's making their hearts glad. My own excitement level continues to build. I just love it. All the planning and prepping. Then next week the executing. It's all coming together. This is what we've been waiting for all year.

We go through paper towels like crazy in this house, of course when I need some I end up with the last towel that is always stuck to the tube! I ask why?!! " But you say not to waste them and there was 1 paper towel left"

COUNTDOWN TO THANKSGIVING 2020: 8 DAYS

Happy November Mid-Week! Look above folks. Look at the number. There's not much left to it so let's talk about it right away. We have 8 days remaining until Thanksgiving. That would be a really low number. There are no other milestones left. There is only one goal and focus now. It is Thanksgiving Day. I have to say where I felt September went somewhat slower. October flew and November somehow is going even faster than October. I'm not sure how that's possible. But I've enjoyed November so far. I've enjoyed The Bers so far. And that's why we count down to both of those besides Thanksgiving Day which is OUR day and our ultimate goal. Have a great November Mid-Week!

I picked up our Thansgiving turkey and it's in the freezer. I am going to pick up another turkey (smaller one) to cook new years weekend so we have left overs to take to work for lunch :)

We are hosting DH's sister and her family, DH's brother, aunt and cousin. We all live near each other and routinely spend time together since we can't do much of anything else. Normally we have several friends over too but not this year. I still need to get some odds and ends for our Thanksgiving dinner.

I am thinking about one week from right now and what a wonderful feeling it will be! I am still not feeling like it is one week away but I hope by tomorrow it will start creeping back in!
