Exactly this. My family is shaking up the traditional schedule this year, so I'm a bit anxious about how that will affect things. Maybe I'll enjoy it even more, who knows? That's what I'm hoping for, at least.
My wife's grandmother, who is the matriarch of my wife's side of the family, has said a couple of times already that she thinks this year will be the last "big" family gathering for Thanksgiving. She's in a smaller house now, and some of the extended family have already announced their intention to stay home this year and have their own gathering. Truthfully, it bums me out. I'm not really a people person, but I remember when my wife and I were dating, her side of the family always had these huge gatherings for almost all of the holidays, and I have watched them slowly dwindle over the last 15 years.
I guess it is just time to start something new! New traditions and new gatherings. At least my family and I will have that time together, and that's time well-spent.
