Traditionally for Thanksgiving I make prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and the fixin's around it. I'll spend the evenings leading up to Thursday baking.

My thought for Thursday is they're mostly my Fridays as I'm taking a LOT of Friday's off work as I count down the days to May and my retirement.

I love the Thanksgiving Thought segment!

Agreed that the consistency of Thanksgiving makes it enjoyable. You know what to expect for that entire week! And thinking about the week is exciting. Would Christmas or any other holiday benefit from the same kind of treatment? I think the idea of a "Christmas Week" sounds amazing, but if there's one holiday that should emulate Thanksgiving, I think it's Easter. It doesn't get enough attention as it is, and it's so wildly inconsistent that I can't even tell you what day or month it falls on next year!
Easter needs to be more fully celebrated.

Congratulations on the coming retirement. I had a dear friend who took a lot of three and four day weekends leading up to her retirement. She said she was "practicing."

Wow, another really hard one. I do serious prep on Thanksgiving eve so it almost blends into Thanksgiving smoothly. I love the day after Thanksgiving, not for Black Friday but because that is when I put up all my Christmas Decorations. But then their is the whole week thing. Getting final ingredients, getting the house company perfect, ironing table linens. doing any early prep possible, making or making sure place setting favors are ready. I can's decide but if I have to narrow it down, I have to go with the whole week.
My mother used to start Christmas decorating as soon as everyone left on Thanksgiving. We always ate at around 1pm so people would be gone by 5 or 6. She would put Christmas music on the turntable and always start with the nativity scene. On Friday we would start the outside nativity, put blue bulb candles in every window in the house and by Sunday, everything would be finished. We always had four real trees that we cut ourselves. Three for the outdoor nativity and one for our living room. Good memories.

I don't think there is anything much better than going out and cutting your own tree. Your outdoor nativity must have been beautiful.

I do think the consistency of Thanksgiving Week is one of the things that makes it so great, because each day has its own special feel.

"Thanksgiving Thought Thursdays", I like it!

My thought for today centers around the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. More specifically, the weather for the parade. What would be my favorite type of weather for the parade? I would like the weather at home and at the parade to be mildly cold. And I would like for it to be a little snowy in NY City too.

I couldn't resist. Had to make a graphic. I love this idea!

It does have a nice ring to it doesn't it?

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 48
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 25

Happy Week Into October! Today folks we move ahead into our counts and see we have 48 days remaining until Thanksgiving and 25 days to go until October. Our next milestone will be the “Home Stretch” to November but fortunately it won’t happen for over 2 weeks from now. By that math, that must mean we have a lot of October to go which is a really good thing I would say. And we continue in our Awesome Autumn here in this chat for a whole lot longer. It’s been great and it was nice to see the sun for a change yesterday. Today should be another nice (mild) sunny day before a real autumn chill hits again this weekend. I’m glad to see people liking the “Thanksgiving Thought Thursday” concept. We’re going to stick with it right up until Thanksgiving of course, and then decide what to do with it going forward. Not sure if we eventually want to pick one topic a Thursday and everyone comment on it or maybe we should just leave it open-ended like we did yesterday. Of course, let me know what you think but right now we aren’t focused on next year’s thread. And we’ll keep it open-ended all the way to finish line in this thread. This is the thread leading us right into turkey time. And all the parade news is picking up. We’re in a wonderful spot folks being in October. Have a great Week Into October!

You know I look at it every single morning, but how does that November count look like it's getting SO CLOSE? I was just thinking to myself how lucky I / we are to have 3 full weeks of October left. It sounds like a long time right? Then that November number just jumps out at you. I know that the arrival of Halloween and November 1st is only days apart, but it's funny how the mind works.

I'm trying to hold on and enjoy this time, even though I'm kind of giddy thinking that my Christmas tree is going to go up in less than 3 weeks.

Have a great day, friends!

I'm all for keeping Thanksgiving Thought Thursdays going after Thanksgiving ends. In the "dark times" early next year, thinking about Thanksgiving will bring a smile to my face and help me ward off the Post-Bers Blues.
I 100% agree.

In the "dark times"
I like this, from now on this is what I am going to refer to January-March and reserve "doldrums" for the periods of time when time feels like it is dragging anytime throughout the year.

I ordered my turkey for this year. I've never had a fried turkey and there is a company on Goldbelly that is famous for them. It was expensive but comes fully cooked and all I have to do is heat it up and enjoy. Most likely, I'll have two friends and my SIL. I'll have lobster mac & cheese, shrimp, the usual TG sides and a variety of desserts. Everyone will have enough leftovers to carry them through the weekend.
