Today is the last day that I feel like my wheels are spinning in the mud! The Slog is nearly over! Once we hit 1/1, I feel rejuvenated. We've been counting down this entire time, but I feel like January is when we really notice the passage of time. Still a long way to go, but you think about January 1 and the proximity to all of our big events here:

Spooky Spring - 90 days!

Halfway to Halloween - 119 days

Memorial Day (The Road!) - 145 Days

Halfway to Thanksgiving Day 25' - 148 Days

Leon Day (Halfway to Christmas) - 175 Days

Fall Preseason - 212 Days

I know I might have missed some days that others look for, but those are some that I keep my eye on more frequently after 1/1, and it's amazing to me that the largest count on this list is Fall Preseason and that one is hardly over 200 days. I think everyone on here knows how quick the counts tend to move when things get under 200 days!

Have a great day friends!

We’re having a very Thanksgiving-like spread for our “Farewell to the Bers” celebration tomorrow night. I saved a Popeye’s cajun turkey for the occasion, and my wife is making dressing. There will be no cranberry sauce, but there is cranberry juice as well as sparkling cider. And of course there will be mac and cheese, although you all probably know me well enough by now to know that goes without saying. ;)

Wow sounds really good!

DAYS TILL THE BERS: 244

Happy New Year’s Eve! Today folks we move along and see that we have 331 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 305 days left until November, and 244 days to go until The Bers. Our next milestone will be tomorrow my friends when we reach January. It will be a brand-new month and a brand-new year. We move along in our Happy Holidays for the final time here and it’s Tuesday so let’s do our normal Picture Day here on Tuesdays. I love it. You love it. We all love it. So I will post those pictures of Autumn and Thanksgiving. It will be awesome to see all your posts. I look forward to it my friends. Turkey friends the best to you on the final day of the year. I have some thoughts on the year. Maybe I’ll share them here. I like this thread because it’s fun and I like the group that posts here. And we all share a love of Thanksgiving which is such an amazing and inspiring day. And it brought to us the holiday season which has been amazing. Absolutely amazing. Turkey friends the best to you on this Tuesday and I hope you are doing well as we head towards the ball dropping again. Another year in the books and I hope it’s been a good one for you for the most part. And all the best in the new year that is approaching. Have a great New Year’s Eve!

Happy New Year's Eve!

I post this in honor of our friend and scholar @The_Escalation and his wonderful cajun style turkey. I have always always wanted to try one. Perhaps 2025 at some point it will finally become a reality!

He will have to tell us if they look as good as they do in the picture! I'm sure even if they don't, they taste as good! Have a great day!

I hope to see most of you online tonight as we count down to the New Year and the new 2025 Christmas Thread!

I hope the squares on my calendar are big enough! Thanks for posting these today!

Happy last day in December.

I'm gearing up for a ton of medical appointments at Mayo Clinic in January/February as well as another visit from my niece and her husband. This time their youngest daughter, a doctor, will be flying in for a long weekend. I'm still kind of tired so tomorrow will be a day of rest for me.

I've been thinking about Thanksgiving and I know turducken will always be a tradition. I believe I passed it on to my niece. She loved the rich gravy that came out of the turducken.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 330
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 304
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 243

Happy New Year! Today folks we move along and see that we have 330 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 304 days left until November, and 243 days to go until The Bers. We have reached our milestone folks with a brand new month arriving today (January) and also a brand new year. Now I can say this friends THIS Thanksgiving and yes we will not leave this calendar year without having Thanksgiving Day. We begin our Winter Wonderland portion of this thread and it’s a long one my friends so get comfy and get ready to hibernate as much as you can through winter’s worst that it can throw at us. Today is Wednesday so it’s time for our Weekly Wednesday Poll. The first one of the year of course!

What’s one change you’d like to make for Thanksgiving this year?

  • Eat a different time (earlier or later)
  • Have different family members attend/not attend
  • Make different side dishes this year than usual
  • Watch more of the parade/football during Thanksgiving Day
  • Ok. I’d like to eat a little earlier. I’m ok with the sides being the same. And I always will like to watch more parade/football than I did last year. But I’m going with B and it’s a weird answer but I want my brother NOT to come to Thanksgiving this year. There. I said it. The reason is because he will only come Thanksgiving or Christmas and as much as I love Thanksgiving as you all know I really want him here for Christmas which is what he normally does. What about you? Turkey friends dare I ask if you’re having a New Year’s turkey? Have a great New Year!

This sounds crazy, but I'd honestly like to make one change with Thanksgiving, and that is doing it in "waves", so that there is not so much running around that day. One or two houses max, instead of the normal 4 + that it seems like.

I'm thinking of hopefully doing one "set" of Thanksgivings maybe the weekend before Thanksgiving, and then doing "Actual Thanksgiving" on Thanksgiving day for everyone else.

I haven't talked to Holly about it yet, but I'm sure she would agree because things are going to be a little "tougher" this year.

Other than that though, even our "Sicksgiving" where Holly's ENTIRE family was sick, was fun, because that was the only place we went that day, It was very relaxing honestly.

Happy New Year to all!

Definitely A. We tend to eat pretty early in the day to accommodate the schedules of my kids’ in-laws. I was we could eat later in the afternoon.

My extended family has celebrated Thanksgiving the Sunday before for many years and I have come to look forward to it. It isn't ideal for those who have a longer drive and need to come back to the area on Thursday but it is nice that those who do come can stay and no one is rushing off to another meal.

I don't remember if you are a big Black Friday shopper or not, but I have a friend who hosts one side (she and her husband have 4 groups) on Friday and serves Turkey Noodle soup, the fixings, and asks guests to bring a dessert and BYOB. She really looks forward to it and it has become a favorite tradition.

I think whatever you choose people will embrace the new tradition and enjoy your thought/effort in celebrating with them.
