I'm really hoping one of our local churches will have Trunk or Treat. I just love seeing little ones dressed up with their sacks full of goodies.

I have three children in my building who recently moved in with my friend, their grandmother. Their mom passed away this year so now they live here. I plan on making Halloween baskets up for them.

We won't get trick-or-treaters here at the condo but I have some ideas to put a smile on the very elderly residents this year.

Nobody is too old to enjoy the cheer of a good holiday.

Hey everyone! We are 42 days away from Halloween 2020! Exciting, right? What are your Halloween plans this year? Do you have any, or has COVID interfered? Let's talk Halloween plans in the thread today!
Various group events around town are getting cancelled, but they are the kinds of things that came along after my time and the time of my kids, so they're not really part of my plans. My plans are very simple, with a routine I've followed for decades.

On October 30, I will carve a pumpkin with the traditional gap tooth jack-o'-lantern grin, and will set it in the garage to dry out just a bit. Late in the afternoon of the day itself I will place the jack-o'-lantern on the porch and position a votive candle inside.

Precisely at the time of local sunset (6:42 p.m., e.s.t.) I will light the candle and declare, "The holidays have begun." (More on this notion some other time.) Then I will sit in the living room, in the dark, reading my Kindle and drinking hot chocolate., waiting for trick or treaters, though we rarely get a single one since there are few children in our now older neighborhood. We will nevertheless be stocked with a supply of some candy which we can enjoy ourselves later. Occasionally I will go out to the street, and look up and down for any kind of movement.

[I come from a time and tradition where Halloween was a night of pranks and mischief, and it was advisable for someone to stay home and on watch to make sure the yard didn't get rolled, the windows soaped, the cars egged, the pumpkin smashed, the porch furniture thrown onto the roof, the trash cans or other loose articles carried down the street. Thus, my vigil.]

At 9:00 we will give up hope of any trick or treaters. At 11:00 we will blow out the jack-o'-lantern and go to bed.

Oh, and through this I will be cranking up my anticipation of the coming Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.

COVID can't mess with this.

I live out in the country so there are no trick or treaters to be had. Halloween is always special to me because Halloween is the day that I met my wife, 14 years ago.

That being said, by the time we've reached Halloween, I am just ready to wake up the next day and see Christmas stuff everywhere for the next two months!!

Good morning, all! We are down to 41 days until Halloween in our countdown! Where has September gone? It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the arrival of the Ber months, and we're already 20 days in? Unbelievable!

Anyway - we are now staring the official end of summer straight in the face. Come Tuesday we will be starting Fall. What are your end of summer plans? Let's talk about them in the thread today!

I enjoyed trick-or-treating with the kids when they were little. We lived in the same neighborhood for the past 14 years, but moved to a few houses on different streets. When we first moved to the neighborhood, we had 4 trick-or-treaters from the same family. I did not expect children to come, so we gave them coins. The next several years we bought candy, and no one child appeared at the door. So, every year, my husband asks if we should buy candy and I always respond with, "no one ever shows up." And every year, we have no kids showing up at our door. I look forward to Halloween and enjoy seeing all the trick-or-treaters. The governor of NJ is allowing trick-or-treating and I hope the kids have fun. It will be nice to have some "normalcy" this year.

SYFY Finally has their schedule out for 31 Days of Halloween:

I've mentioned it before, but along with AMC's Fear Fest (which was frightfully lame last year), this is a staple of my home life in October, interrupted only by the Rudolph Day festivities!

Edit: Fear Fest's Schedule is out for AMC. And this is the first time i believe that it is a month long as well! And it looks GOOD this year!

33 days until Halloween now! Is anyone else excited for the 31 days of Horror Movies that are starting on Thursday!

I've mentioned it on here tons of times, but that Horror Movie marathon that is on my TV 24/7 in October is firmly part of my countdown to Christmas routine!

My 12-year old is just discovering "horror" films. We're starting out with ones like Psycho and Amityville Horror....trying to find ones without too much gore and nudity. So it's been fun rewatching some of those old ones that I haven't seen in years.

I've mentioned this before, but I am a wussy scaredy cat when it comes to horror films. Just can't do them for some reason. I can probably count the number of legitimate horror films I have actually watched on one hand. Thrillers - sure, I'm all in. So my Halloween movie marathon primarily consists of thrillers and stuff like "The Nightmare Before Christmas" or "The Sixth Sense" or "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." And I'm mostly fine with that, although I would like to step out of my comfort zone at some point.

I've watched this once already this Fall. Maybe we'll watch it again this weekend.

"Psycho" might be a good one to step out of your comfort zone with. It is more suspense than horror. l think most by Alfred Hitchcock are that way. An exception might be the movie "The Birds." I saw that in ninth grade at school of all places and have not been thrilled with large flocks of birds since. But give me "Rear Window" anytime. I don't like horror much either.

Our Halloween was cancelled here but living in the country we dont get any trick or treaters they rely on trunk n treats thru the churches at the park.but that was cancelled too...poor kids next door is so sad..well figure out something to do for them...

It's sad for the kids. I'm still waiting to hear what my town is going to do. There has to be a safe alternative for the kids - they're only little for a short time.

Well this is it. The "Final 30" until Halloween! I for one am looking forward to the massive binge of Horror movies that I am going to enjoy EVERY DAY this month, across AMC & Syfy.

And i always think to myself, when it's October, and you see Michael or Jason on the screen, they are essentially ushering in Christmas!

Figured this thread would have more popularity now that we are firmly in the midst of spooky season! 29 days to go now!

The Halloween decorations are all up and if I do say so myself, the house looks so cool. First year with a Halloween tree. First year with permanent outside lights. Hall bathroom is a murder scene complete with a strobe light and a bloody towel and hand prints (the littles here aren't little anymore so some scary is okay). And the yard zombies are back! Mr. Skeleton is sitting in the husband's recliner reading Halloween ads and petting his skeleton dog. All is well in Halloweenville).
