20th Annual Christmas Card Exchange
The 20th Annual Christmas Card Exchange at MyMerryChristmas is now open for sign-ups. This is our most popular Christmas event of the year.
Imagine it: right after Thanksgiving your postman begins a daily trek to your mailbox.
At first, it’s just a few. Then it turns into a flood.
Christmas cards from all over the world, from people you know through the Merry Forums, that you have never actually met face to face. The cards are varied, beautiful and festive.
The Christmas cards are filled with expressions of love and seasons greetings. But sometimes there are other little surprises thrown in (I won’t spoil it for you). The cards are bright, cheery and warm. One by one you use them to add to the festive decoration of your home.
Within a few weeks of the lead-up to Christmas you tree is up, your candles are burning and the cards are everywhere.
Your friends and visiting family members are amazed when they come to visit.
You’ll hear them say, “This reminds me of when I was a kid!” – back in the days when Christmas cards were a bigger tradition.
Then they’ll say the obvious: “But…how did you…?”
Honestly, the reactions to the cards you receive are almost as good as receiving them in the first place. It is the one time of the year where you will run to the mailbox in anticipation. A card from the Christmas card exchange is always good news.
And that’s the other thing: doing your part in the exchange means sending the same as you receive to others. You get cards and stamps. You sit down and write them out. All old school, all low tech, and all very merry.
It makes you feel good. It adds to your holiday season like few things do anymore.
We are experiencing a lot of changes this year at MyMerryChristmas. The upgrades and new site design are all very exciting. In our 33 years of Christmasing online we’ve gone through remodels many times. Change, you see, is a part of Christmas.
But tradition is an even bigger part of Christmas.
And this tradition of the Christmas card exchange is one we will cling to forever. It’s not going to change. It’s only going to get better.
If you have participated in the Christmas card exchange in the past we invite you to come back. Get that good feeling going again (and we need it in a year like this one).
If you have never participated in the Christmas card exchange we invite you to come to MyMerryChristmas to check it out. Join the Merry Forums and ask others about it. It’s not just me that sings its praises.
And recognize we have another element to Christmas cards that will soon be announced: Operation Christmas Cheer. This just adds to the fun of sending cards. Forum members add names of folks who could use a little Christmas cheer to a list. And we all send those folks cards. They don’t even know the cards are coming and we always get a great response when we flood the unsuspecting, the shut-ins, the ill, the elderly and the disadvantaged with just a smidge of this kind of love.
We could go on and on.
Just come see for yourself. Once you start with the card exchange you never leave. Because traditions are important.
