I am going out for breakfast and I will pass my local gas station on the way. I noticed on the news last night that national ave is $3.33 a gallon. I always though the southeast was below the average so I am surprised that ours is 3.40 right now.

We are up to $3.45 a gallon from $2.92 last monday.:-?

dang man that is quite a jump..I thought ours was bad going from 2.97 to 3.40 in 2 weeks! I just don't understand if oil cost a certain amount per barrel why is everyone's gas prices different? why would they not all be the same.I guess if you ask the officials you will get a different answer from each one. I just hope it does not get above 4.00 a gallon. If it goes to 5 I will start driving my bike to work..and I'm not kidding.lolcheesy

Definitely from primary sources. I watched the Boston Blackie on TV. Wait--my "source" watched it. Loved George Stone. Also, on another note, Hubby looked at me crazy the other evening when I told him we had to go to the store. It was the day before the predicted snow. He had NO IDEA!!! Those actions are inbred in Southerners, at least those used to getting snow!

Let's call it "research from primary sources" ... ;-)

Mr. says there was also a Boston Blackie TV series ... I hadn't heard of that. Only knew about the book/stories and the 1940s B-movie series with Chester Morris. And George E. Stone, one of our favorite character actors.

Judesmama is right, Seawaters---you guys don't know the drill out in California! When snow is forecast, you have to mob the grocery stores, especially for milk!

Hope you get your snow ... :snowball:

I was so sleepy by the time we got home that I had to take an hour's nap!!!

How it Was When I Was A Kid

My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn't seem to get food poisoning.

My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter AND I used to eat it raw sometimes, too. Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in ice pack coolers, but I can't remember getting ecoli.

Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then.

The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.

We all took gym, not PE... and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Ked's (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. I can't recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now.

Flunking gym was not an option...even for slower kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym.

Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school and it never caught all sorts of negative attention.

We must have had horribly damaged psyches. What an archaic health system we had then. Remember school nurses? Ours wore a hat and everything.

I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself.

I just can't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations.

Oh yeah... and where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed!

We played 'king of the hill' on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites, and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of Mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn't sting like iodine did) and then we got our butt spanked.
Now it's a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $149 bottle of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.

We didn't act up at the neighbor's house either because if we did, we got our butt spanked there and then we got butt spanked again when we got home.

I recall Donny Reynolds from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front stoop, just before he fell off. Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house. Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a goof. It was a neighborhood run amuck.

To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family. How could we possibly have known that?

We never needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes? We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills, that we didn't even notice that the entire country wasn't taking Prozac!

How did we ever survive?

How it Was When I Was A Kid

..........

How did we ever survive?
* we rode bikes without wearing helmets

*spent all day outside in the summer playing, with no cell phone to keep in touch with our parents and out of sight of the house

*walked a mile to school with no adult supervision

*climbed trees that where taller than our two story farm house just to see how far we could see

Well I just got through shaving my head, well not actually shaving it but buzzing it almost bald... I do that every 3rd sunday night although sometimes I will wait 4 weeks. I am tempted to watch the oscars just so I will know what they are talking about on the morning news show I watch. I am going to grill some bratwurst soon too. My weekend was really good. But it simply passed too fast. why does time always pass fast when you are having fun I wonder!! But at work it drags. I don't know if it ever got to 85F but I will look on the weather channel to find out. My tress have bloomed more since this morning. It's amazing how fast it happens. they are 6 weeks early so I hope they don't get killed if we have another frost. I hope all of you have a great night and I will talk to y'all in the morning!

Snakes have come out of hibernation!!! almost stepped on one in the garage. It was only an oak snake but to me they look like rattlesnakes at first glance..I have been told how to tell the difference between poisonous and non-piosonous but honestly when I almost step on one and it slithers away who has the time to see if its head is a certain shape or if it's long or short or fat!!??. last year I saw 3 rattlesnakes and a slew of oak snakes. oak snakes are also known to be bad for getting in your house..yep spring is here for sure!:) everyone have a great rest of the day..it is beautiful here today and already a warm 79F!
Saw a small rattlesnake this afternoon at mama's. Whew!
