Yesterday was our first day of being off Cable TV. We had Direc TV for almost 9 years. We finally cut the cord after there were no more promos / deals that could lower my price. Biggest price jump I got was this year, in December of 20', my service went up from $90 to around $124.00. We weren't quite alarmed yet but was concerned, and sure enough in February, it went from $124 to 165$ as the final parts of the Direct TV & AT&T merger took place. That was when we tried calling to get a new deal like we had always done in the past, sorry, nothing we could do, they said.

I tell you all this because when we signed up for Sling TV ($30 bucks a month), my first month comes with SHUDDER, which is a channel primarily geared towards horror / scary stuff. This was a channel that we could not get in our area with Direc TV. And the best part is, I get all of the other channels that I was watching before with Direc TV. Out of everything we were paying for, we found out that we were only truly watching like 10 channels with any frequency. As soon as we found out that they had all of our favorite channels, it was a no brainer.

So I might "cheat" this weekend some more, especially with a JOL Day coming up. Consider this a "test run" for how our wonderful October evenings will be binge watching horror movie marathons & shows....
Definitely will need a Shudder review!

I agree, I think the folks on here would enjoy it, and I plan on doing a full review of it, I think I can save it for a milestone day or other significant day here! Would really fit with the theme!

Happy Saturday friends! The next couple of days are going to bring us some exciting days! First, we change our clocks back tonight when we go to sleep!

NEXT, on Sunday we prepare to welcome in the 200 Days to October milestone, that we will celebrate on MONDAY.

BUT WAIT, there's MORE! TUESDAY MARCH 16th, will mark exactly TWO WEEKS until JOL Day #2!

What a lineup up it will be! I hope everyone enjoys this awesome Saturday!

Morning Halloween Fans! Everyone feeling spooky here? Well I definitely plan on putting on a show or 2 over the next week-2 weeks that I have some time off as I mentioned yesterday. Have a great day!

Morning Halloween Fans! I actually had a little dream about Halloween last night. It was interesting. I can't remember it all but it was the spooky season. Ever have those? Have a great day!

My wife and I had to run into town yesterday evening, and on our way back home we drove down a long stretch of road that leads back to the highway. We were driving in the direction of the sunset, and while the sun was mostly already gone, the sky was an extremely dark purple with a few ominous looking clouds. Even better was that there were no other cars on the road at the time, just a few streetlights.

The brief moment before we reached the highway evoked some STRONG Halloween feels. It wasn't quite as good as a Bers sunset, but it was suitably creepy and really made me long for October again.

It also reminded me of something...that I am going to save for the big 200 day milestone tomorrow.

Good Afternoon Halloween Fans! Today so far has been absolutely GORGEOUS OCTOBER WEATHER (see what I did there? :) ). But seriously, this comes about as close as you can get to one of those gorgeous October days that we always talk about. 63 degrees so far, and Sunny, just a light breeze.

I woke up this morning and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was on TV. Figuring that we were roughly two weeks away from Jack O Lantern Day #2, I "cheated" for about an hour. It honestly felt like one of those early October mornings, and I loved it.

Well, tomorrow is the big 200 DAYS TO OCTOBER 1ST milestone. Doesn't seem possible to think that we will be in the 100 count later this week.

Have a great Sunday, Folks!

GOOD MORNING AND HAPPY MILESTONE MONDAY!

200 days to October 1st.jpg

The name of that tree is actually a type of maple called "October Glory". I found the name fitting. This picture I found browsing the web and immediately it jumped out at me, I could imagine the cool grass, maybe there is a slight chill in the air, but one where you would be comfortable in just a light jacket. If I think real hard, I can smell wood smoke here.

Today we have reached a very important milestone day, and that is the 200 days until October milestone. Trust me when I tell you that it gets easier after today, not just on our Halloween counts, but the countdowns to our other favorite holidays as well. Getting to 200 days is a big deal. Getting your count into the 100's, you are really doing something.

To tell you that I am excited for Jack O Lantern Day #2 is an understatement. It crossed my mind also that NEXT MONTH will also bring us HALFOWEEN. Can it really be possible? Since tomorrow we are officially only TWO WEEKS from JOL Day #2, I will have a special announcement.

I hope that everyone enjoys this great Monday!

200 days until October 1st...and tomorrow we will smash through the barrier into the first of the 100s count!

Now for my promised "something" that I remembered on Saturday evening. Some of you might be familiar with the podcast "Lore." It was a critical darling when it debuted back in 2015-2016 due to the way that it relayed (mostly true) stories and legends in a creepy and unsettling manner. There are actually still new episodes being produced to this day, and although I haven't followed it in a while, there are bound to be some gems among them.

HOWEVER, Grim & Mild productions, the company responsible for "Lore," has another podcast titled "13 Days of Halloween" which is a 13-episode audio tour through a haunted house in which each episode is focused on a different room and a different story.

I have not listened to it yet, but I've decided that next month for the remaining 12 days leading up to Halfoween I am going to listen to one episode per day, culminating in the finale on Halfoween itself. Since I'm not a fan of horror movies, this is a perfect "treat for the ears" for me.

And if you ever need a quick dose of some Halloween feels, Grim & Mild has several other macabre podcasts as well, such as "Cabinet of Curiosities" and even an entire season of "Unobscured" dedicated to the Salem Witch Trials.

Good Morning Halloween Friends! It is AMAZING to see the "Days to October 1st" count, now down into the 100's.

Jack O Lantern Day is now a mere 14 days away. Folks, I am "feeling the pull" now of October like never before. The weather has had a lot to do with it I'm sure, as has the Lowe's outside Garden Center, but make no mistake, I have felt THE BERS, and October calling me. I am sure I will be this same way with Christmas when "Christmas Hunting" starts at Hobby Lobby in a few more weeks. I'm actually imagining myself next month, with Halfoween occurring right in the midst of Christmas hunting, and WOW, there will be lots of Feels.

That's why I feel like today, with only 2 weeks left until JOL Day #2, I feel is the perfect time for me to announce something that I spoke about back in January, that I was still undecided about at the time:

Dark Arts Sundays.png

Harry Potter just puts me SO MUCH in the October / Halloween mood. SYFY does a great job of promoting these movies at the end of September, and hyping us up for October, I think that naturally these are as much a part of my October routine as Michael Myers, or Jason. So I am happy to say that we decided today that as part of the Jack O Lantern Day Celebration, We will do our own "Dark Arts Sundays" and observe on the Sunday that falls closest to the 31st, on each month that has a JOL Day. This will be the 28th of this month, the 30th, of May, etc..

Ever since I woke up a few days ago to HP being on TV, and it being October-like weather, I remember how it made me feel instantly like I was back in October, I knew then that this had to be part of our routine.

So you know the drill, watch along with me if you are a Harry Potter fan like I am.

I hope all have a wonderful day! It FEELS great to be in the 100's!

Which one(s) are you watching?

Which one(s) are you watching?
There is always time for at least 2 of them. In January, we watched Harry Potter #1 (The Sorcerer's Stone). We ended up having snow and got kind of a late start to the festivities.

I'm thinking that this go around, we can easily get in the Chamber of Secrets, and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

If at some point during this year, we reach the conclusion of the original HP films, I plan on throwing in the Fantastic Beasts movies!

Good Morning and Happy Wednesday! And Happy St. Patricks day to everyone! St. Patricks Day is a Holiday that I always don't pay much attention to during the road back to THE BERS. To me it doesn't seem to have that "punch" like Easter, or the excitement of 4th of July when you know you are knocking on the door so to speak. Even Valentine's day gets more attention because it's really the first Holiday after "Christmas Season" is over, and a little fun pick-me-up in an otherwise short month. But St. Patricks day? Just not feeling it, never did. But if you like it, hey that's great!

All of our counts look like they are flowing pretty smooth, only the "Days to Halloween" is still hanging on stubbornly in the 200's. It sure will be nice to see that one break into the 100's count, which it will NEXT MONTH, on April 15th.

And in all of the excitement of reaching the 200 Days milestone to October, I forgot to put my normal Monday morning week count. So here we go, this will be back on schedule next week:

WEEKS TO OCTOBER: 28
WEEKS TO HALLOWEEN: 32

I hope everyone enjoys their Wednesday!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! yeah, not a huge holiday for me either, but it's a good enough excuse to get some corned beef, cabbage and potatoes going. And how about a little Guinness and maybe just a smidge of some Irish whisky? Have a great day!

Morning Halloween Fans! With my vacation starting today I believe it is time to turn on a Halloween show. Unfortunately it's not time to trick or treat though :). Have a great day!

I was so excited about the announcements yesterday that I completely forgot about the Seasonal Candy of the Week! So I'm going to remedy that today. We're going to take a break from our usual Easter faire and discuss something with more of a St. Patrick's Day spin. Behold, the vaunted chocolate coins!

1615985140701.png
(St. Patrick's Day...Irish...leprechauns...pots of gold...coins....it's a bit of a stretch, but just roll with me here.)

How many of you enjoyed chocolate coins like these as kids? Maybe you still enjoy them as adults. I do, so no judgement here. Or maybe, like myself, you dreamed of having a huge building full of them so you could swim through them Scrooge McDuck style.

Perhaps the most problematic thing about these chocolate coins was trying to peel off the foil so that you could actually eat them. Sadly, the quality of the chocolate seems to have decreased since I was a kid, and they don't taste as good as I remember.

What's your take on chocolate coins? Do you ever have them any other time during the year, or do you associate them with another holiday besides St. Patrick's Day? Sound off and let me know!

And with that, I bid you fellow spooks a very wicked Wednesday!

I always use them in my coffee table centerpiece during the St. Patrick's "season" and of course by today, there is one left. Yeah, I thought they were tasty when I was a kid. Now, well, they taste pretty waxy.

Alright, fellow spooks, it's Tuesday, which can only mean one thing: Time for the Seasonal Candy of the Week!

We're going with another controversial selection today: KitKats. A lot of you may be thinking, "What's so controversial about KitKats?" Normal KitKats are almost universally loved; it's when they start throwing out other flavors that things really get interesting. We already covered the KitKat Duos Mocha + Dark Chocolate flavor earlier this year, but Easter requires something a bit different, and it seems that the Hershey's company thinks that "Lemon Crisp" is the answer:

Full disclaimer: I have not been brave enough to try these yet, so I have no idea if they're good, but do any of you have some of these filling your candy dish this Spring? If not, do you plan on trying them? I think inevitably I'll have to try one if only to satisfy my curiosity, but to be honest this really isn't my jam.

Let me know what you think of these, and as always, have a frightfully good Tuesday, fellow spooks!
Finally tried these. I have mixed feelings, I like the flavor but the candy coating not a great as I hoped. Reminds me of what they put on some petit fores.
