Good Morning Halloween Friends! I hope that everyone had a safe, happy, and Merry Christmas. My "Hardcore" countdown back to Christmas doesn't begin until January 1st, but with Christmas over now and facing "the slog", I felt like resuming in earnest the Fall / Halloween countdown just felt natural.
As you can see now, we are only 9 days away from the all-important 300 Days to Halloween milestone. At that point, there won't be any more 300's in the countdown. January used to be a much rougher month for me, sometimes dealing with the PCB's and just in general the long, dark month, but incorporating / acknowledging our Halloween milestones in January goes a long way. My strategy now (and the same one I use for Christmas), is dealing with little stretches of time, instead of one giant long countdown.
And on to my Halloween-based announcement. The past few weeks I haven't been as "Halloweenish" because I've been trying to focus on Christmas season. That is the least I can do to respect and honor Christmas time. But with Christmas sadly in the rearview mirror now, January is on its way, folks. I'm looking ahead to Jack O Lantern Day #1. It's going to be great. It's going to feel like I'm "really" on the way back to Fall, even though we have been "on the way" since December 21st.
I've finished my "schedule" for all 5 upcoming 2022 JOL Days, and I'm just about ready to put the finishing touches within the next few days on what will encompass my "Halfoween" festivities this year. It feels almost perfect timing wise that I will have all that finished up right around the same time as we get out of the 300's on the countdown.

I received a 2022 Peanuts wall calendar for Christmas from my god-daugher/great-niece and I can't wait to add in the important milestones, Tom Turkey Days, and JOL Days. It will be a fun activity and it will make each month seem a bit more festive. I am trying to pick a theme word for the coming year too, so hopefully the new year will be energizing. even though the weather in January and February can be a bit dreary.

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Like Edge pointed out earlier today, we are now at the last week of the year. He made a good point about soon being able to talk about Halloween in the present tense instead of having to say "Last Halloween".
The last week of the year also means that soon, the "Bonus Months", have came to an end. But they did their job. You can look at the counts above and already see how vastly different they look this morning as compared to when we started over two months ago. TWO MONTHS - It just doesn't seem like Halloween was two months ago. But that's the beauty of the bonus months. We are into the 30's count now on the weeks to October count. And next Tuesday, we will reach the 300 day milestone on the Halloween count. We'll be barely into January and the month will have already gave us a milestone. And it won't be the only one.
And now for the Monday question / topic:
Do you find counting down to Halloween (or other favorite holiday) all year makes the arrival of Halloween (or your favorite holiday) slightly "sad"?
We had a friendly discussion about this a few weeks back in the main Christmas thread. I am of the opinion that counting down and being excited all year long has the ironic effect of making the arrival of Christmas slightly "sad". Fortunately those PHB (Post-Holiday-Blues) in this scenario don't last long for me, as I am raring to go again on January 1st.
Counting down to Halloween / October for me is entirely different, and I think that's because of the magic of the Bonus Months. Christmas you can be sad at the end because of how long you have to go to get back to The Bers, but Halloween is really smack dab in the middle of the most awesome times of the year (Sept, Oct, Nov Dec). All things considered I love counting down to the holidays 365 days a year, so I wouldn't change anything for me personally!

No. It does not make me sad at all. It gives me something to look forward to. I also use vacation days throughout the year the same way. With that said i think you need to have a good balance with living in the moment and looking ahead. If you look forward to much you miss a lot of things. I have been getting there but still not quite there yet. I tend to still look ahead to much.
I think one of the keys to avoiding not only PCB, but serious depression is having something to look forward to. That way if depressive thoughts start to take hold, you can look at the fun/positive thing in the future and focus on that, not the depressed feelings so both as a holiday freak and as a therapist, I think having countdowns and things to look forward is healthy.

I am looking forward to seeing all of the Milestones and other dates for the Halloween Countdown, I think it will be a fun New Years Eve/New Years Day activity!
I know I am day late, but I don't think the year long anticipation makes me sad to see Halloween arrive and depart, it reminds me that the best time to enjoy it the "now".
I'm not back "full-time" yet, but my wife and I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond yesterday, and it felt so good seeing these Halloween items on clearance! This may be the earliest ever that I've had the Halloween feels.
I think I would be over the moon If I saw those in January! I might even be inclined to purchase something to have for JOL Day!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Happy Hump Day! It's another short work week for me this week, as we are off on Friday. So today will really feel like Thursday, in so many ways.
I enjoyed seeing the picture on here yesterday of the Halloween clearance items at Bed Bath & Beyond! For a second there it almost felt like we were "Halloween Hunting", and it could have just as easily been late July, seeing the beginnings of Halloween come out!
We are still marching closer and closer to the 300 Days to Halloween milestone, which arrives in just SIX day from today. Less than a week! I know I'm happy to feel the Halloween thoughts slowly start creeping back into my head! Have a great day!

I have two more days to go and I can stop worrying about them! It's amazing, the "feels" feel different in the new year, where it is more of a yearning / longing for the holidays instead of a sadness that they are over!
Let's take just a moment to admire the counts. Only 5 days away now from the 300 Days to Halloween milestone, and today we are exactly 3 weeks away from the 100 Days to Halfoween milestone. For as long away as that one seems, I can promise you that due to forces beyond our comprehension, I think that is the fastest moving count in all of our countdowns.
