Good Morning Halloween friends! Always having a Monday come and go is a good feeling. And we still have most of the "full" 1st week of February awaiting us. You can see that our next milestone will be in THREE(!!) days when we welcome in 50 DAYS TO SPOOKY SPRING. That's going to be a big one in here, and I hope everyone that is part of this thread/community can be here to celebrate with us.

We had a good conversation yesterday in here about some "extra" things that we could do in addition to our normal Spooky milestone days, Spooky Spring, JOL Days, and "Fall Pre-season" etc. Prior to @The_Escalation bringing up that February 28th is a great day to watch "28 Days Later", I have thought / realized that for a while now, that out of the entire year February doesn't really have any special "Spooky Day" outside of milestones and what not. And neither does June. By the time JOL Days are over, we are back in "Fall Pre-season" and headed straight for "The Bers". It seems like "Zombie-ary" on February 28th seems like a "no brainer", so my Tuesday Halloween thought today is this:

Do we "need" to have a Jack O Lantern Day in June?

June is an exciting month already with Halfway to Christmas which is a big celebration here in this household. Could June 30th potentially have an "honorary" Jack O Lantern Day, or something to that effect?

I personally never get tired of having special days for ANY holiday, so I am content / at peace with whatever the decision is, whether we vote "yes" for another proper JOL Day, or "no", because we have enough Halloween / Fall tribute stuff already. This is how democracy works in this thread!

Have a great day, friends!
I'm all for more special days/celebrations. Personally I always thought Halloween got lower billing when compared to Thanksgiving and Christmas because we have a Tom Turkey Day and a Leon Day every month, but JOL Day only five times a year. Spooky Spring and Halfoween sort of pad that number a bit, but the overall count is still smaller.

Considering we have a two month break from any spooky stuff once Halloween is over, why not add one more celebration to the calendar? Just my two cents.

Here is my Tuesday Halloween thought:

Last year our town slowly started reintroducing our Fall Festival back into the event lineup. We hadn't had any type of community festival or event since the first Covid lockdowns, but last year we got a "Halloween Carnival." It only took place on Halloween as opposed to our old festival which was three days long, and it was about 1/4th of the size of what it used to be, but it was at least something, and the kids really enjoyed it.

This year I hope we get a full-on return to the original Fall Festival, or if not that, then at least a gradual step up. I really want to experience some more Fall and Halloween events this year. All of the neighboring towns in this area hold their festivals in the spring, so I'd have to do some driving if I wanted to experience a real Fall Festival.

Part of the joy for me has been watching Jack O Lantern Day grow and evolve. I remember in 2020 when I “observed” it for the first time, it just really felt like I had caught lightning in a bottle. And it seemed to be popular here too right off the bat.

From there it evolved to incorporating Harry Potter Dark Arts Sundays, even a whole month now of “Spooky Spring” and obviously our halfway celebration.

It seems only natural that June seems to be the next destination for a JOL Day.

This means we close out the “season” with four straight JOL Days, to lead right into the Bers. I don’t see JOL Days ever “stretching” into September since spooky season and Fall is “back” at that point, October is obviously 24/7 Halloween. And I feel that JOL Days shouldn’t “encroach” past October because November and December need to stay special like they always are.

So “voting” Will continue here, but I am voting in favor of a June JOL Day.

I do not think that February really needs one being a short month, it is really a month to rest and relax and reflect after getting out of January. I do think that closing out the month with 28 days later is perfect though!

As far as JOL Days go, I always thought it should look like this:
  • Jan 31 - JOL Day #2
  • Feb 28 - JOL Day #3
  • Mar 31 - JOL Day #4
  • Apr 30 - Halfoween
  • May 31 - JOL Day #5
  • Jun 30 - JOL Day #6
  • Jul 31 - JOL Day #7
  • Aug 31 - JOL Day #8
  • Sep 30 - JOL Day #9
  • Oct 31 - Halloween
  • Nov 30 - JOL Day #1
  • Dec 31 - New Years Eve

I really do like that lineup, my only concern is that I feel like we don’t get “enough” of November and December, and I obviously never want to do anything to “cut into” that special time. I also like the little “break” from Fall / Halloween / Spooky time, and by the time late, late December rolls around, I’m really missing JOL Day. The same reason I think that the very first Rudolph Day might be one of the most special.

I am truly curious if mentally could I take a single day, November 30th, and do JOL Day and not feel like I was somehow “cheating” November or December. I like that December has no JOL Day.

I think it’s worth a try! November 30th 2023 could potentially be JOL Day #1 and kick off the “new” JOL Day / Halloween countdown season. What is the groups’ thoughts on this?

Now that I think about it some more, maybe we should leave Nov 30th off the list. That is full-blown Christmas time. Eight JOL Days are better than five.

I plan to celebrate Dark Arts Sunday in December, maybe not in November, unless I haven't gotten through all the Harry Potter movies, or maybe I could switch to the Fantastic Beasts?

I like this but for me, by November 30th, I am so deep into Christmas that I could skip that one.

Good Morning Halloween Friends! At the mid-way point through the week now. Exciting! Rolling up on Super Bowl weekend now. Almost the same excitement level as the weekend before Thanksgiving, or possibly the Halloweekend.

The big news this morning is obviously that after yesterday's discussion / thoughts / "voting", is that Jack O Lantern Days are expanding.

We will now be expanding to THREE MORE JOL Days over the course of our year, with our next edition coming in just 20 days from now. February is the first new month to gain a JOL Day, as well as June, and now the "final" JOL Day will be in September, deep in the heart of The Bers! So thank you to all who made this happen. I'm curious honestly to see how this "holds up", and will 8 JOL Days still feel as special. I'm sure they will, Tom Turkey Days, and Rudolph Days have never lost their luster!

Remember, our next milestone will be on Friday when we hit the "Final 50" on the way to Spooky Spring! Have a great day!

This is exciting! I'm so glad we have three more celebrations throughout the year.

Morning Halloween Fans! I hope you all have had a good week so far. We were talking about fall the other night with my Uncle. And that's when we saw the final chucky of season 2. Halloween stuff with a Christmas episode of it in February. Amazing. Have a great day!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Almost the weekend now! Almost SUPER BOWL weekend!

Yesterday really felt like Spring. It was so exciting. I went on a walk at about 3:00 PM on my break. It was just too nice of a day to not enjoy that weather. And visions of "Spooky Spring" danced through my head. It's not long off now, not at all.

Tomorrow we enter into the "FINAL 50" on our way to Spooky Spring. What a Friday it will be.

In other Halloween news, I am happy to say that Mountain Dew "PITCH BLACK", which originally came out in Halloween season 2003, then again in Halloween 2004, then for a limited run in 2016, has now came back again. Needless to say it is my very favorite mountain dew ever, and it ALWAYS makes me think of Halloween whenever I get to see it and taste it.

Have a great Thursday, friends!

For a second, I got it confused with "Voo Dew," and I thought, "It's back already?!" Then I realized you meant Pitch Black. I haven't seen it in so long that I forgot it was a thing. I am ashamed to say that I never tried this variant... I'll have to correct that oversight when I see it in stores down here.
